spacecoyote, that site proves my point, “Physicians and dentists have long considered nitrous oxide to be a safe pharmacological agent.” the dangers from nitrous are tiny compared to other drugs. all that is required for being safe: inhale the nitrous from a balloon not a tank, not stand up or walk while on it, breathe real air, and take B12 supplements if you’re a heavy user. it is incredibly simple to use nitrous responsibly, the only reasons that you believe that nitrous is dangerous is because you witness idiots taking it and stumbling and falling around (I’ve seen it too, I’ve caught a guy who was falling). Talking about drugs as being dangerous is making them dangerous. any drug can be used to a safe degree provided that the user is properly informed about the dangerous, knows his own body, and makes wise decisions. now, i’m not saying that anyone should use any drug, i’m just saying that nitrous is safe enough fro nearly everyone to use if they fucking get smart about it. there is no such thing as a good drug or a bad drug, there are good drug users and bad drug users.

The dangers of nitrous are not tiny compared to anything, there are inherent effects associated with nitrous (hypoxia for one) as well as external circumstances that can cause fatal injury.
And your statement that “there is no such thing as a good drug or a bad drug, there are good drug users and bad drug users”, is a half-truth (not to mention that it is rhetoric that I am tired of hearing the uneducated recreational drug enthusiast espouse). Why would there be a differentiation between good and bad drug users if it were not for the effects of the drugs themselves?

The problem with that statement (besides it being more tired rhetoric) is that the majority of recreational drug users are using the drugs to get high, and most of these users (myself included) are not physicians. When it comes to consuming unregulated substances we as users have to experiment to find out what our thresholds are; and for some people, or a lot of people depending on the drug, once they reach that point it’s like passing through the event horizon of a black hole, there is no going back and if there were it would not be to the person you once were. Your assumption that everyone should know better is lofty and arrogant, and you are visiting your intentions on the world in general without any real experience to back it up, or at least that’s the way it seems to me.
Now, try reading a full paragraph from that link:

You completely misinterpreted my arguments (which may me be my own fault, I rushed that response before I ran to class). I am NOT condoning the recreational usage of nitrous to any degree. I agree that people abuse drugs. I agree that some drugs need to be kept illegal. I agree that many, perhaps most, people do not know their own limits with drugs.
What I am arguing is that nitrous can be very safe and it is very easy to keep it safe. I am arguing that by demonizing the substance you are ignoring the actual problem; idiots using drugs irresponsibly.
