Does anyone know where I can get good used tapes still? I just got a really nice mint shape double tape deck from my Dad, I was thinking of firing it up soon, I just don’t have any tapes right now.
Haha, they are tough to get a hold of.
My cousin, who’s the same age as I am, has us on our asses laughing at Thanksgiving. He used to have this truck that had a tape deck in it, and he went to our used record store looking for tapes. He said he walked in, “Hey, where’s your cassette tape section?” and I guess the guy just looked at him with no response.
So, good luck getting a hold of some…
I have four completely packed boxes full of old tapes…Dead Shows, Phish shows, Panic shows…all from the old trading/collecting days.
I also have a lot of mix tapes of old prog, psychedelia, and rock. Plus old obscure indy stuff like Monks Of Doom, Teardrop Explodes, early K, early Sub Pop fanzine issues.
Maybe it’s time to get an E-Bay account…
I would be interested in the Phish & Dead shows for sure!! PM me about them if you want to sell!
^thats a great idea vern… course some folks may not take kindly to you selling old shows on tape. It strikes me as odd that they no longer have a tape section in stores… and tapes were still in plenty of usage 10 years ago. So its not that long ago… but advances have quickly made them obsolete.
I guess I worded that wrong. I have no intention of getting rid of the old show tapes. But I do have some rare rare cassettes…like the original Sub Pop fanzine cassette comps, K Records fanzine comps, RRR compilations, original Ralph Records on tape (most notably The Residents and Snakefinger), old original punk tapes on odd obscure labels. I’m sure that shit would sell well on the Bay.
I’m not seling my old Phish tapes like the demo or the Junta, nor the Wake of The Flood and Mars Hotel 8-tracks either!
I was struck with amazement when my Jeep didn’t have a tape player.
How am I supposed to listen to Natty Dread now?? I suppose I could upgrade, and buy the CD… damn you technology from 30 years ago!!
my 2006 Corolla has one. I played a few tapes in it until it ate my Julian Cope mix tape and now it doesn’t work.
No wonder this technology was out moded!
I have LOADS of tapes…like 300 or so. I traded obsessively when I first got into Phish…I actually a goal to have a live version of every Phish song there was…and came close to doing it. Walfreeeeedooo.
Anyway, I rarely listen to them mostly because I listen to Phish less. It’s sad because my CD collection of Phish is woefully pathetic compared to my tapes. I couldn’t even trade for more CDs if I wanted to. I need to get involved in one of those torrent sites but I don’t internet at home.
Stevo
Gamecat kindly sent me a box full of about 30 of his old tapes a couple years back. They were really cool to have and listen through while I was still trying to soak in all of the Phish.
I still have them tucked away in my closet. Good stuff.
Danfish, I’ve got ~200 Dead/phish tapes that I’d part with for the cost of shipping. I have far surpassed whatever I had with electronic files, and I haven’t listened to a tape in years. PM me if interested.
Yeah me too - I’ve got a small tape collection of live Phish … probably 50 or so. Glad to ship 'em out at cost. They’ve invented recordable CDs, so you know. I only use tapes when I’m transferring them to disc!
Where are you, anyway? If you’re in southern New England we could meet up.
What’s a cassette tape?
It’s what they used to make mp3s out of.
and sonic dresses!
PM’s sent! Thanks guys!!
Now get ready for that wonderful “under a cloud of hiss” experience!
