The 2008 National Football League Thread

I am glad to know that whole world will be smearing my lions along with me tomorrow! But watch this be our only win lol.

The Lions are 11 point dogs!

That’s not even the biggest line of the week. That belongs to ANOTHER Turkey Day game, Seattle at Dallas.

The best football game tomorrow might be Texas A&M and Texas!

A game is what you make of it.

cripes, being a Vikes fan is such a roller coaster ride

I’m realistic about our chances to make a playoff run, given the fact our coach is a complete moron, but tonight’s game is pretty big. Vikes/Bears, SNF. Either way it’ll be fun, getting drunk and watching the game with some buddies.

I’m watching the Packers/Panthers right now, hoping the Panthers can win at Lambeau and really put Green Bay’s season on the brink of disaster.

how are the fins letting the Rams keep it this close?

as if the overall blood pressure of people in South Florida isn’t high enough.

Colts on a roll! 5 straight and in the drivers seat for the #5 seed.

Lions on a better roll!!

0-12 BABY!!!

And they meet in 2 weeks!

LOL! Yup the Lions play Vikes, @Colts, Saints, and @Packers. I’m not sure which will be worse…that Colts game or the Saints at home. Drew Brees could seriously get 500 yards passing. Heck, the Titans could have set numerous records on Thanksgiving yet they clearly let up on the gas in the second half.

See…this is why the Lions are on for Thanksgiving…it’s a way of reminding all the rest of you fans that, yes, there are worse things than your respective home team…there’s the Lions. This way you can look at your own team and be glad that at least they’re not the Lions…it’s a way of giving Thanks for a day that is all about giving Thanks.

And gotcha back, BigB! HA HA!

Stevo

It actually does make me feel better about the Pacers.

So thank you for that.

the Dolphins were the only team in the AFC East to win this week.

now that’s pretty heady right there.

how bout some baltimore love?

FUCKING BITCHTITS

NFL suspends Pat and Kevin Williams 4 games…such bullshit. The stuff they got popped for wasn’t even listed on the product that they took. How could they know?

it sounds like they might be able to draw this out for that reason, with lawyers and all that, but I’d almost rather they suck it up and sit out. We can hopefully go 2-2 or 3-1 our final four games without them, and still win the division. Then they’d be available for the first round of the playoffs.

either way, FUCK

^Dude you had to see this coming. The NFL has never reversed a suspension involving a banned substance. They really should have been preparing for this by maybe signing an available DT. Hey the Colts released a good one this year because of marijuana, Ed Johnson. Vikes should pick him up. He’s decent. Seriously he would help for the short term.

Do you really think they didn’t know? The stuff they got suspended for is a masking agent for steroids. I’m with you I generally want to believe the players on the teams I support, but it makes you wonder.

Alright fantasy guys. Seeking some advice. I start the playoffs this week in another league I’m in and I need to start 3 out of these 4 RBs. Which 3 would you select?

Brian Westbrook–@NYG–>Hate the matchup and Westbrook’s injury situation, but this was my first round pick; Do I live or die by Westbrook?

DeAngelo Wililiams–vs. TB–>Hate the matchup, but Deangelo has been lighting it up. Might have an opportunity at the goal line, but it sucks he’s facing TB this week.

Michael Turner–>@NO–>like this matchup…3rd leading rusher in NFL…got to start him right? Or does Brees go off and limit Atlanta’s ability to run the ball?

Peyton Hillis–>vs. KC–>This dude has been on fire…I’m pretty confident I’m starting him with this matchup…Normally not a good idea to go with a Shanahan back, but he is about the only healthy back they have…They signed Tatum Bell, but if the Lions released him that is not a good sign…He’s produced as well.

Well what do you guys think…What 3 backs should I start? I guess the better question is would you start Westbrook or Deangelo…Gosh I’m leaning towards Deangelo, but I liked to have some advice. Thanks.

Hillis - Yes.
Turner - Yes.

Giants and TB both have great D’s. So it’s a toss up, IMO. Since the Eagles have a better QB and better receivers, I’d go with D. Williams. But that’s just me, of course.

^^^

More bad news, Hank…in 2001 the Vikings went to Detroit to take on an 0-12 Lions team. And promptly lost.

Who do the Vikings play this week?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Well I have Turner in the OhKeePa league and he’s basically a must-start for me every week. I would never bench the guy…you never know when he can go off. Especially against a bad Saints defense. I’m licking my chops on that game this week.

The other three are tough. I mean Westbrook does good even when he’s injured but it’s SO hard to score on the Giants, especially since the Eagles have been terrible lately. Then DeAngelo Williams is rough since he splits carries and you never know against Tampa. As for Peyton Hillis, I hate starting and even owning ANY Denver RB since Shanahan will randomly run someone else for 120 yards at any given moment…but it’s KC!!! I’ve had MAJOR days from my RBs when they played KC this year…you HAVE to start him. KC’s run defense is worse than the frickin Lions!

Overall, between Westbrook and DeAngelo, I think the Giants D is just too tough…I’d take a gamble on DeAngelo…he’s been pretty solid lately and it seems like Carolina is passing the ball less and less…and it’s not likely to be a blowout where Carolina has to throw all the time.

Also, I’d like to say that I now hate Fee for stealing Matt Schuab from under my nose this morning. Bastard. Even worse that I had him on my roster for a while and had to drop him to pick up someone else. Ug. Kerry Collins is going to kill me in that league. I’m convinced of it. If anything, I’m like the REAL Tennessee Titans…like them, I’m in first place and I’m going strong but in one game in the playoffs I’m going to really need Collins to have a good day to save my team when everyone else struggles and he just won’t be able to do it…and yet I can’t bench him since my alternatives are worse.

By the way, on the Vikings/Lions game, I will agree this is the official “last chance” for the Lions to win a game but I think folks are overreacting. For one, the Lions have played worse at home this year, plus the apathetic half-empty stadium is even worse for those players…home field means nothing. For two, even with the two Williams boys out, do you REALLY think the Lions can run that ball consistently? They haven’t done it all year! I’ll bet the Vikes have backups will shut us down just as well…our O-Line sucks even against bad teams. For three, you REALLY think the Lions will shut down Peterson? We supposedly “shut him down” last game and he still had 120 yards or so…not to mention that he fumbled TWICE on the Lions goalline in that game. I think this Lions team is toast, especially if they still keep starting Culpepper who is just an INT machine now (which is the LAST thing a bad team needs)…they were actually better with Orlovsky who at least didn’t turn the ball over as much.

Stevo

Hate is such a strong word Stevo. Trent Edwards is now out there.
