The 2008 National Football League Thread

I can’t wait for the Steelers to DESTROY Tennessee next week and lock up home field.

The Steel curtain is gonna drop on that over-rated team.

Well, two more to go until the perfect season. The Lions started screwing it up in the 4th against the Colts but sure enough, they manned up and let Peyton just march down the field in his last two drives. Way to suck it up and make sure the dream is alive, Lions.

And seriously, the Colts couldn’t have been LESS interested in that game and still easily won. Just hilarious. I gotta say that Orlovsky is EASILY the best QB on the Lions roster right now. He gets rid of the ball quickly, makes quick decisions, actually tries to get the ball to Calvin Johnson (duh), and doesn’t throw game-killing INTs. I don’t know if he’s the QB of the future but he’s light-years better than Culpepper. I think that the Lions will actually have some close games in these next two against the Saints and Packers. I don’t know if they’ll win since our defense always wears down in the 4th quarter and gets rolled up but they’ll keep it close.

And man, what a sweet game against the Steelers/Ravens. Nice to see a REAL home-field advantage that hasn’t been neutered by a so-called “State of the Art” stadium which reduces noise, prices out the real fans and is quiet as a tomb. The Colts’ RCA dome used to be one of the loudest places in the league and the new place this year is pathetic. And sadly, the Jets, Giants and Cowboys are next to kill their home fields with fancy new stadiums. I mean what REAL home field advantages are left? Green Bay, KC, Denver, maybe Oakland, Baltimore…is that it?

Me vs Fee in the fantasy league…my players have some brutal matchups this week…could be ugly.

Stevo

I hear you Stevo. The Luke is awful for crowd noise. Not to mention that it was virtually quiet the last two weeks playing Cincy and Detroit. Yeah the Colts actually played awful against Detroit. No pass rush and still couldn’t run that ball that effectively.

I got to give it to Detroit though. They played tough and are still trying to get that W. Marinelli won’t let them quit. I feel bad for that guy. First off every time he walks it looks like he has to take a massive shit and second he has to deal with the personnel given to him. I mean dude will not quit. Have you heard Rome’s take on Marinelli. He is worried about the perfect season because of Marinelli. He’s disappointed that the head coach is still trying.

Should be an interesting matchup in the fantasy semifinals Stevo. Are you worried about the Turner vs. Vikes D (even though one of the Williams got hurt)? I’m curious cause I have Turner in my other league in the championship game and I’m a bit worried, but how do you sit that guy?

Oh and who here thought that Santonio Holmes was in the endzone on that catch?

So I was just watching ESPN and the ticker at the bottom of the screen just read that Buccaneers DE Greg White legally changes his name to Stylez G. White. This was inspired by a character in the movie “Teen Wolf.”

That is just hilarious on so many levels. Sports Illustrated Sign of the Apocalypse maybe?

Me

What a great drive that was by Big Ben.

And the Steelers are gonna run all over the Titans next week now that Haynsworth is out for the rest of season.
Home field advantage will be decided.

GO LIONS!!!

^^^
I saw that too, fee.

I almost thought it was that they just played vanilla offense…like they stuck with short runs and short check-down passes. If they really wanted to fling it to Wayne or Harrison, they could have easily on our pathetic secondary. It’s like they just figured that a complicated gameplan wasn’t necessary.

And I’ve heard Rome go on all about it…he does it every year that a team is winless…he did the same stuff with the Fins last year. It cracks me up.

I don’t feel that sorry for Marinelli…a lot of this team is his fault. He’s got this philosophy that you don’t need talent and that you just need “character guys” who “fit the system” and that he can “coach them up.” Marinelli had a hand in a lot of the personnel decisions, especially since we picked up so many rejects who couldn’t even START at Tampa where he used to coach and made them starters. He was at least partly behind trading Shaun Rogers, firing Mike Martz and installing this Cover-2 when he doesn’t know how to run ANY other type of defense. Not to mention he’s one of the worst game-day coaches I’ve ever seen and constantly makes pathetic calls like punting on 4th and 1 and rarely going for it in opposing territory. Heck, even in that Colts game, he punted away to the Colts with five minutes left…did he REALLY think we were getting that ball back with any decent time left? He was 0-13!!..why be so careful?? He’s just as much a part of this 0-14 season as anyone.

Okay…that felt good…

Yeah, I’ve got some rough matchups this week across the board. I HAVE to start Turner if only because I never bench him anyway and my alternative is Chris Johnson against the Steelers who NO ONE can run on. Ouch. So, I’d probably start him anyway, but that decision was basically made for me.

I’ve also got Jennings against the Bears, Boldin against NE and Steve Smith against the Giants…not too thrilled with that. I may be bringing in Moss to face the Cards instead. Even worse, I had Collins starting but there’s no way I can play him against the Steelers…so who did I pick up to start for him? That’s right…Dan Orlovsky. God have mercy on my soul.

Also, I’d like to thank everyone (including Fee and Gamecat) who rejected my offers to trade Randy Moss and Thomas Jones this year…they’ll both be making contributions in my playoff run. Thank you, folks.

Stevo

Go Pats! I love snow games

LET’S GO VIKINGS!

I don’t even want to go to the game next week.

I’m bringing a “FIRE CHILDRESS” sign to the game, for sho… seriously.

what a fucking great day…

UGLY game with the Phins, but i’ll take the win over the chiefs…

and the Jets lost too, which is almost better than a Miami win.

I’m wearing a paper bag on my head tomorrow…

^still one more chance.

I can’t believe the twists and turns this season has taken. A truly epic season.

We could witness the first 0-16 team ever.

We have seen 2 rookie QB’s take their respective teams to the brink of the playoffs (Matt Ryan completed the task if the Ravens win next week Flacco will have done the same).

We have seen the AFC East become the most exciting division in football. If Bernard Pollard doesn’t make that hit on Brady would we have seen anything like this?

One week the Jets look like there in control then the next they look like a completely different team.

The Miami Dolphins are currently the division leader with a week to go. Yes I said the Miami Dolphins. The same Miami Dolphins that won one game last year. Oh do you think if the Jets don’t get Favre and release Pennington allowing the Dolphins to pick him up that the Miami Dolphins would be in this position. I betcha ya the Mangenius didn’t see that one coming. Not to mention Fireman Ed.

The Pats continue to win with a QB that couldn’t get off the bench in college. It looks like they might fall a bit short, but they are still alive with one game to play and you never know. ( I don’t see Baltimore losing to J-ville, but that’s why they play the games)

The Colts continue to put out 11+ win seasons. They find different ways to win each week. A true classy and model NFL organization.

Denver can’t decide if they suck or if they are good. San Diego decides to play when they want to. Now these two face each other next week for the right to host the Colts on wildcard weekend.

Tennessee owns Pittsburgh for the number 1 seed. Who saw this coming? Not me? I don’ t think Pittsburgh did either? Don’t worry P-burgh fans you’ll still be there in the mix.

Dallas is on the brink of implosion each week; however they now control their own destiny for the playoffs next week. Who here sees them losing at Philly? I know I do. Just seems the right way to end their season.

Giants look solid for most of the season then the whole Plaxico thing. Now there is some doubt about how they’ll perform in the playoffs. They got a nice win to wrap up the #1 seed tonight, but they have alot to prove to me to get back to the Super Bowl.

Philly looks like 2 different teams. For a couple of weeks they look unstoppable then the next week they tie Cincy.

Arizona looks like the worst division winner of all time. The NFC West in 2008 is surely up for worst division of all time.

Minnesota looks solid one week then :sigh: their QB play becomes an issue. They still should get in the playoffs, but they might have to rely on the Bears losing a game. Then again the Giants have nothing to play for next week so maybe they can beat them next week.

Speaking of the Bears I can’t figure these guys out. They come to Indy and beat my Colts then lose some close ones and win some close ones. I think last week was the first time they won back to back games all year. They win one week and lose the next. Go figure.

Green Bay regresses big time. Oh Ted Thompson what were you thinking?

The NFC South was the best division in football. Every team will finish at least at .500. Carolina’s two headed monster of Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart dominate. We already heard about Atlanta, Tampa Bay was solid up until 3 weeks ago and New Orleans offense continues to impress.

Well I about covered everyone. What a truly, fun, epic year. I can’t wait for the playoffs.

Oh and by the way Peyton Manning should be MVP of the league this year. The guy has virtually carried the Colts to the playoffs. Without him the Colts might win 4 games. After overcoming offseason surgery, no run game, a disappearing defense he has been amazing. Colts start the season 3-4 and everyone is writing them off. How do they respond win 8 straight games to make the playoffs for the 7th straight season. I don’ t want to hear about Ben or Kerry because these guys have defenses that back them up. I could QB these teams and secure a couple of victories by the handing the ball off and relying on the defenses. I will listen to the arguments for Adrian Peterson and Michael Turner, but other than that I feel Manning is hands down the MVP of the 2008 NFL season.

^truf.

nice man… great post.
