The 2008 National Football League Thread

There are plenty more QB’s who have done the same thing Peyton has this season. If San Diego ends up winning that division i’d say Phillip Rivers is a more qualified MVP.

I agree that Peyton has been solid but you also can’t argue that Peyton was part of the reason that the Colts had such a poor start since he was just rusty and coming off that injury and whatnot. Yes, he had an excuse but you can’t be credited for saving the team from an early hole when you were part of the reason they were in it. It’s like how people always credited Jake Plummer for his “comebacks” in Arizona when it was his three picks in the first half that got them in that hole.

Also, don’t forget to mention that Jekyll and Hyde Jets this year. They get lit up for 40 one week and then D-up like champs the next. Brett Farve looks amazing then old and washed up. The run game looks phenomenal and then can’t buy a yard.

And nice work to womp me in the semis this week though my entire team decided to no-show. It’s always good when your highest scorer is your kicker. I’ve got Rodgers and Jennings tonight and it doesn’t even matter. Though at least you were nice enough to destroy me so badly that I can’t kick myself for benching Collins and Chris Johnson…they wouldn’t have made a difference anyway. That’s what I get for starting the QB of an 0-14 team, I guess. If anything, maybe Orlovsky’s losing influence took over my entire team and they ALL decided to play like the 2008 Lions…I guess it’s my fault after all.

And how bout dem Lions? 0-15 and going strong. Nice of them to not force a single punt out of the Saints…and then only score because the Saints bailed you out with pass interference on 4th and goal. Nice work, Lions.

Even better, reports are that Ford Sr. won’t be getting rid of the interim GMs in Martin Mayhew and Tom Lewand. Classic case of Ford Sr…he’s too old and lazy to actually try to hire a new GM so he keeps the guys who have been here for the eight years leading up to a potential 0-16 season. Just awesome.

Stevo

An 8-8 QB as MVP…LOL.

There are definitely not plenty of other QB’s that have done the same thing that Peyton has. Oh and the argument that Manning was part of the reason that the Colts were put in that hole is laughable. The guy had two offseason knee surgeries. What more does he need to do. He probably shouldn’t have been out there to begin with. If you want to see true amazement check out Manning’s Week 2 pass against the Vikes to set up the game winning play. You tube. It’s amazing. Amazing comeback against the Houston he was part of. J-ville loss he was solid. Tennessee loss he was solid. Numbers don’t show it, but all the Int.'s in that game were tipped balls.

I’m not sure if you guys realize how tough it is to QB a team with the 31st ranked rushing team and a defense that doesn’t look bad statistically, but can’t get off the field. Peyton has the least amount of possessions and still puts up crazy numbers.

I guess I’m getting a bit defensive here, but I can’t believe you guys don’t think Manning deserves the MVP. The Rivers comment was just a low blow.

Rivers did more with less! And i cannot stand P Rivers as a person.

^ That’s 1 reason.

Rivers did more with less? Gates, LT, Sproles, Chambers, Jackson, Floyd…I think not. Not to mention in the second worst division in football especially defensively. And yeah he’s a prick.

He got into it w/ some Indy fans near the end of the game last year after SD beat the Colts. “Got into it” meaning just jawing back and forth. Who does that? You think Manning or Brady would do that? Fuck no. He hasn’t done anything to prove himself in this league, IMO.

^Yeah your right Ghost…It was actually during the playoff game when Mr. Rivers had to be taken back into the locker room to tend to his torn ACL. My seats are/were in the endzone where the visitors locker room is. Rivers walked by and was jibbering jabbering back and forth. I can confirm though not through my ears, but through a co-worker of mine that Rivers was saying, “Where’s your pretty boy QB now?” Is he filming commercials? Just going on and on. Sounds like an inferiority complex. Sorry Rivers your unmarketable. And a dick that the sportswriters don’t like so you will never win the MVP.

Oh and just one more thing Rivers had his career high of 4 TD passes yesterday in the game against Tampa…lol. That’s his career high?

Settle down Homers! Remember what MVP means.

The Colts haven’t impressed me at all this year.

Even during their win streak, they weren’t winning much impressively. They got their one Super Bowl title out of this Manning run, and that’s all they’ll get.

True, they haven’t been impressive.

But what IS impressive is that they find ways to win games. A little luck doesn’t hurt.

Bears are down 14-3 at halftime!!

and a Bears loss=Vikings win division and make playoffs for first time since '04!!

I just jinxed it though. Bears will come back.

No No Hank. The league needs 4 losers for opening weekend! The Vikings will attend.

^wanna bet?

I’ll take the Vikings against the Cowboys or Falcons or Cardinals. Home or away.

OMG! 3 minutes left, all tied up.

I’m at home now without TV so I’ve got the espn.com “gamecast” thing refreshing every play. Nerve-wracking!

The Colts have benefitted from a pretty easy second-half schedule. The win at Pittsburgh definitely lit a fire under their ass, but no opposing team out of their last 6 victories has a winning record. In fact, they’re a combined 26-54. Lack of defense will be the Colts downfall in the playoffs.

wow, I could be there in person next Sunday for another huge late-season meltdown by the Vikings.

If the Bears win at Houston and the Vikes lose at home to the Giants, we lose the division.

At least Chilly would maybe be fired in that scenario. I’m bringing the “Fire Chilly” sign on Sunday for sure.

Have the Vikings ever held up the Lombardi Trophy?
