The 2008 National Football League Thread

I just looked up the definition of “downplay” in the dictionary, and your post was definition #1!

And lest we not forget that the star player of your favorite team has the nickname “Purple Jesus.”

^that’s not true

his name is “All Day,” which is also pretty lame

I’ve definitely heard Purple Jesus thrown around.

True, it’s not as popular as AD, but still. I’ve heard it. With my ears.

You’re right, especially since we all know that it’s Tim Tebow who stands for all that is good in the world. He also turns water into wine. So there.

As for Dungy, not a bad coach at all but if he hadn’t won that one Super Bowl, I wonder what we’d think of him. I always thought it was weird that a “defensive coach” went to the Colts and really only had one or two years of really solid defense yet had one of the best offenses in the league. Of course you could say the same about Billick in Baltimore and both ended up winning a Super Bowl. Plus it always drove me nuts how Dungy would abandon the run in the playoffs. But, oh well…the guy got his ring and he’s a real good fellow and class all the way.

Of course, like all coaches, he’ll be back in about three years and be regretting it when his crappy team goes 5-11 every year but that’s how these things go.

Silly sports…

I stand by my remarks!

then you take sports too seriously!

^ Yeah your probably right…Sports is seriously top 4 priority in my life.

I’m not sure you know that much about Coach Dungy with the comments you have made. Hell he was in Minny for a number of years. There is a lot more to Dungy than a football coach.

Dungy is very anti gay and outspoken about it. I saw him at a rally with hate signs. Can’t say i like the man.

^
Dungy was actually holding an anti-gay sign, or he was present at a rally where signs were being held?

I know that Dungy used to coach and play in Minnesota. He’s another one of the Vikings assistants that we have let go. Everyone always talks about wanting him to come back to the U of M and coach the gophers.

I’m not sure you know that much about my level of sports knowledge, Fee.

Enlighten us, then!

I just did.

about Dungy.

^Yes sir, yes sir. Haven’t seen you around since the Phil’s took it all, 80-08 man, 80-08.

Wasn’t trying to knock your knowledge of sports Hank I’m just not sure how much everyone knows about all the stuff Dungy does off the field. Dungy himself doesn’t really define himself as a football coach…he loves that he had/has that platform to bring attention to issues that he is involved in such as All Pro Dads, mentoring young men, visiting prisons and spreading the word and whatnot. He is an extremely religious man so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was anti-gay like Big B was saying, but I would have a hard time believing that he was at a rally spewing hate or holding signs.

And your right Hank I have no clue on your level of sports knowledge I just thought that maybe you weren’t aware of all the off the field stuff Dungy is involved in.

^It’s aight. Just had to stand up for myself a bit.

go vikes… :stuck_out_tongue:

Pittsburgh’s mayor, Luke Ravenstahl, is changing his name to Luke Steelerstahl!

He was also born in the same decade I was.

I personally think a Eagles/Steelers bowl would be the most entertaining.

Although, seeing Zona go to their first dance would be cool, but I think either AFC team would smoke’m
