The 2008 National Football League Thread

Deserve to be there? The 2 teams in the bowl ALWAYS deserve to be there. The Giants deserved to be there last year and BOTH these teams deserve to be there this year. If/when AZ wins it will be a bigger upset than last year and even Pats>Rams 02. And nobody today says those 2 teams did not deserve to be there. Very disrespectful yall!

I’m a Giants fan, so I really don’t care about either team, but I’m gonna be rooting for Arizona, just because they’re the underdogs.

youuu see the game?

I was there…

roethlis… roethlisberger was all like… old school… HUG EM, CHUCK EM, FOOTBALL… ALL DAY!!!

go STEELERS!!!

I gotta say go Arizona, because EFF PIGGSBURGH!

Fee, for one Dungy DID speak out against gays at some sort of private event. It was some religious thing and he did mention being against it. I remember it was a subject on the radio even in Michigan since the whole “what if one of his players is gay?” subject came up. I’m just sayin…

As for the Cards, for one, they were 9-7, not 8-8. For two, good for them. I think they were better than 9-7, but once they clinched the NFC West, I think they relaxed a bit and blew a number of games late in the season. They’re looking now how they looked earlier in the year. Plus I think they’re surprising some teams but running the ball more as well. The biggest surprise is the defense who has done fairly well so far. Plus I like Warner so I’ll be pulling for the guy. That dude’s career was DEAD with the Giants and now he’s in another Super Bowl. Not bad.

And that was a sweet Steelers/Ravens game from the huge number of hits and nasty shots folks were taking throughout. I think even the refs noticed since I didn’t see any late-hit, uneccessary roughness, roughing-the-QB penalties called although there seemed to be plenty of all of those. In the end, Flacco couldn’t be depended to do…well…anything but every time I was about to write them off, they scored. It’s a testiment to their defense and special teams that they were even IN that game.

As for the Super Bowl, this goes by simple rules. Anytime a “hotshot offense” meets a “hotshot defense” in the Super Bowl, the defense wins every time. Can’t go against that. And Fee…the refs handing the Steelers Super Bowl 40? That Seattle played pathetic in that game. Even if Big Ben ran in that TD or not, they still won by three.

And isn’t it funny that the day the Lions announce their new coach, Jon Gruden becomes available? Not that I think the Lions would have gotten Gruden but it’s still funny that way.

Sure, the Cardinals deserve to be in the Super Bowl. Are they the NFC’s best team right now? Yes. If they played the Giants or Carolina on a neutral field ten times, how many would they win? 3, maybe 4. But it’s all about getting hot at the right time. ahem The Colts did that very thing 2 years ago. And, to a large degree, so did the G-Men last year.

My Dad’s girlfriend is from Findlay, OH, the hometown of Ben R. She used to drive school buses for the school system and used to see/interact with Ben. Drove the team to away games, after school routes, etc. I think that’s pretty cool.

Anyway:

The Cardinals??!!! I really can’t believe this shit??

Go Cards!!!

I’m bitter and jealous, what can I say??

I think its funny that there are no Cardinals out west. I realize they moved from St. Louis, but I still think it is funny.

Okay so he spoke out against gays. I didnt’ realize this, but I can’t say it surprises me. I mean he is an extremely religious man…and with that comes evangleical vies. It still doesn’t change the way I feel about the man.

And the Roethlisberger non-TD was one of 5 or 6 terrible calls in Super Bowl XL. Not just insignificant calls either…game changing calls…I"ll give them the Willie Parker run and the Randle El to Ward TD, but that’s it. Almost everyone even the media felt Seattle got hosed in that game. Oh well I can’t take the title away from them. It’s history.

It’s even remotely as bad as the Utah Jazz or the Memphis Grizzlies. I suppose there MAY be grizzlies in Tennessee but the Jazz cracks me up every time. Cuz I know whenever I think of Jazz, I think Utah.

And Fee…you’re right…I forgot about the other bad calls in that game…there were a lot. I still don’t think Seattle would have won…they were pathetic. In the end, the Parker run and Randle El throw were about the only memorable plays in that game anyway…what a dud. That’s what you get when you put a Super Bowl in the same place that the Lions play…the air of losing affects all involved.

Need examples? The Spartans played UNC there this year. Got pounded by 30 in one of their ugliest losses in recent memory. Ball State is undefeated at 12-0 and goes up against a less-than Buffalo team. They promptly fumble the ball like four or five times in the second half with two returned for TDs…Buffalo didn’t even have to play. The Pistons had lost every game they played on Sunday this year…up until the Lions season ended…then they immediately one a Sunday game by one point over the Clippers. Coincidence?..I think not…

the system is rigged. This was totally supposed to be the Dolphins’ year.

anyway, Go Steelers!

The Pro Bowl is on right now, and I’m only watching for 2 reasons:

  1. Nothing else on
  2. Hoping to see trick/gadget plays

(Just saw a fumblerooski play by AFC!)

Well Ben “Drama Queen” Roethlisberger came out and said that he played with broken ribs in the Super Bowl. The Steelers are denying they knew anything about it. Drama Boy said that it showed up on an MRI he had after the big game. Really who cares. Ben you won. You were the hero. You had the game winning drive. You didn’t play like shit in this Super Bowl. Congratulations. Move on.

Seriously every other week this dude is claiming to have some nagging injury. I mean yeah he takes a lot of hits, but that is mostly his fault as he holds onto the ball too long. I gotta admit sometimes he makes amazing plays out of it, but nevertheless. Best example was the last game of the year. I turned on the game and Ben was being taken out on a stretcher. The hit really wasn’t even that bad, but I understand the precautionary measures and whatnot. I guess my point in this post is that Big Ben is drama boy that feels the need to be applauded for his courageous play while injured.

^HEY! That’s not for public use!!! What’s going on here?

Ohh… I thought it was not for pubic use.

Favre tells agent he plans to tell Jets he is retiring.

Favre, not the agent.

I’ll believes it when I sees it!

^I’m the same way…and I said it last year too. When Week 1 rolls around and Farve isn’t under center for one of those 32 teams playing that week, then MAYBE I’ll believe it…

so it looks like the Viqueens signed Sage Rosenfels!!!

we’re Super Bowl-bound now, baby!
