Take this as you will, but I can think of at least five Trey riffs from Phish songs that are better than 90% of these, but then again it’s not something unexpectd from Spinner and AOL.
Speaking of Jessica, check this out: “As the Allman Brothers’ tribute to legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt, who could use only two fingers on his fretting hand, Betts plays the entire thing with only two of his own.” Holy shit man. I mean, I know it’s a slide part and all but… damn! I also had no idea that Django only had two fingers on his fretting hand.
The Jack White riff they put on the list IS a powerful and catchy riff, BUT it took me about 7 seconds to learn it, less than a year after I started playing the bass. And it’s no harder on guitar.
Glad to see Johnny B. Goode and Voodoo Child near the top, but if it were me, I would have had it:
Voodoo Child
Johnny B. Goode
Layla
Jessica
Hit It and Quit It
And that’s just if I had to use the ones on the list. But yeah, Trey should be on that thing.
EXCELLENT choice. Or at the very least give us Traveling Man. Or frickin Whipping Post…
And what the heck…Life in the Fast Lane??? Ain’t Talking Bout Love? Those songs blow. And I can think of like ten Iron Maiden riffs that should be on there…at very least “Wasted Years” should be there ahead of the Trooper. Nice to see Slayer get a little love though…
Interesting fact about layla. while eric clapton was recording at non other than the Muscle shoals Sound studio. Clapton had met Duane Allman at which time Duane had been working on that lick and felt that it was perfect for the song. You can also hear Duan playing on the song. I love Duane Allman!!!
