^Well, you’re seeing propaganda that isn’t actually there…that would depress the crap out of me. Like I said before, you can’t help it but it just must suck sometimes. As great as your life is as you say, if you weren’t constantly deluding yourself, it could be better. And yeah, I know, I know…I’m the one who’s actually deluded and blind to what’s REALLY going on…I know…

Anyway…they need to leave Catwoman alone for now. Her character was never that great to begin with and while Michelle Pfieffer was okay in the 2nd movie, they don’t need to redo it. Putting in the Riddler sounds like a good idea. Maybe it’s me but I don’t like films with multiple villains…it just ends up as a big clusterfuck kind of like Spider Man 3 which was a disaster. They did it fairly well with Two-Face and Joker but I wouldn’t push your luck…I’d say one villain is usually more than enough to carry a movie.

i’m not so sure about that, i def got some social commentary vibes from the movie, all the terrorist stuff and how they now make batman movies to be more realistic instead of comic book"y" to sell to a wider audience and throw their ideals/views at an audience that is there to escape (for the most part) everyday life into a realm of fantasy, i mean for christ’s sake, “Wall-E” was one big propagandeic social commentary movie

I still dont see the difference between ‘terrorist’ and ‘super-villian’… they both reign shit over whatever their goal is so… aren’t they fucking synonomous?

as for comic book genre of movie… all depends on whos directing, acting, etc… I see the Burton movies and the current run both entertaining in their own right, but i like the realistic stuff more because… yea technology kicks ass nowadays…

anyways GR is right about judging the movies especially since Dark Knight just came out and the future, but to say “Jack is just a better actor than Heath Ledger”… well Heath hasnt necessarily been around as long as Jacky boy right? so imo its kinda like judging the movies if your judging the actors…

but to the negativity around here lately, damn keep it fuckin breezy up in this beotch.

i think there’s a lot of propaganda in movies these days because movies always (for the most part) reflect the time they are made in. we live in fucked times.

and seriously, if you scratch the political surface, these times are even more fucked than we are led to believe.

but anyway, yeah. that’s why all the propaganda and shit.

Yes, that’s why we go to movies so we escape all that silly stuff. When I watch movies, politics and crap are the LAST thing on my mind.

Half the time I wouldn’t even want to watch a heavy political movie. All it does is tell me how fucked up everything is which I already know. Great, everything’s fucked up. There’s nothing I can do about it so why worry about it? But that’s me…some folks really enjoy it so to each their own. I’m not one to judge anyone.

And the more I think about it, the more I realize they really can’t bring back Two-Face. The whole point about Batman saying that he did the murders at the end was to keep Dent as a hero and not let the Joker “win.” If they bring him back then that whole message is completely ruined. Seems a bit silly to me.

But seriously, just because a guy blows stuff up and they show a corrupt system doesn’t mean it’s some political statement. They had terrorists in movies before 9/11 and had corrupt politicians in movies before any of the current era as well. Sometimes these things just make for an interesting plot and aren’t there to tell you anything.

Boo. Just posted all about what I thought about the film and then lost my post.

I liked it. Too melodramatic, and a smidge overrated. I tend to agree with Nicholson = Ledger.

Ledger was good. Didn’t blow my mind like I kind of expected him to.

I left the theater feeling like I didn’t really care for it, but had some great conversation about it afterwards… reflecting back, I realized how much I actually liked the film.

I have this bad habit of hitting the Escape key at the worst times which seems to instantly delete anything you typed in these boxes with basically no way to get it back. I get SO pissed at that. Why the heck would they stick that function to the keyboard!!!?

I think the length didn’t help it. Combined with the 10 hours of previews before the movie it took quite a while to get through. I started to get a little weary near the end but it picked up with the final scenes so I forgot all about it being too long.

I didn’t like how the Joker was left (literally) hanging so that we could all focus, for the remainder of the film, on the less interesting Harvey Two Face character.

And as I said, I didn’t like the melodrama of it all …

Outside of those factors, it was more than you could really hope for in a film about … freaking Batman. It’s Batman, and that’s important to remember. Same kind of thinking that keeps me from getting too upset about the dumb parts of Revenge of the Sith … I mean, how critical can you rightfully be of this kinda pop art? It’s like giving a food critique of the dollar menu version of the McChicken.

^I love Ep. 3 actually; definitely a strong Star Wars movie as Star Wars movies go. I just cringe at a couple minor things, that’s all. Can’t stand how Padme loses the will to live, and that the robotic robot-faced birthing robots couldn’t find anything medically wrong … but they could tell that she lost the will to live, whatever that means. Can’t stand Padme’s acting in that film either - she was great in Ep 1 I thought; what happened there?

I thought some of the dialog was cheesy, in like a cheesy girlie movie kind of way. And that, that’s really okay because it’s just a Batman movie. Like, there are aspects that I didn’t like, but what do I expect when the whole artistic vehicle isn’t something I’m crazy about in the first place?

I think I really need to see it again, because I was so analyzing it to death while I was watching it. I found some things I didn’t care for and kind of clung to them. A second viewing would probably help me appreciate it.

I agree with this. I’ve read some ridiculous articles (far more ridiculous that anything here) with people FAR overanalyzing the film. Seriously, it’s a comic book film and it strives to be like that.

As for the new Star Wars. The first few films were pretty bad but were saved by the action scenes. Part 3 was better and I thought it was pretty good until they had Darth Vader go “NOOOOOOO!!!” like a cartoon character at the end. The ENTIRE frickin three movies leads up to that final scene of Anakin’s transformation into Vader and that idiot Lucas completely ruins it.

And yeah…the acting is HORRENDOUS in basically all three movies though part of it was due to bad dialogue. I mean these were the only movies where I thought that Samuel L. Jackson’s acting was terrible and I think most of it is because it’s impossible to deliver that dialogue and still look good. In the original three Star Wars I’m convinced that other people must have had a hand in the dialogue and acting in addition to Lucas since those three are all solid films. And considering the direction of the latest Indian Jones film, I’m convinced that Lucas had a LOT of help in his earlier films since his latest ones with just him directing have been horrible.

Finally got to see Dark Knight yesterday afternoon. We were too exhausted from the night before to go to the wine tasting festival as we planned, so we went to a very uncrowded showing of DK at the local multiplex.

A little aside first, because more than the movie, the first few handfuls of buttered movie popcorn is just one of THE BEST experiences life has to offer. And I know that shit is cloggin up these old arteries as I type, but damn, it’s just so good to start in on a fresh bag of that shit. Of course, by the middle of the bag, I had had quite enough, but boy those first few scoops are just so wonderful.

The Dark Knight is one of my favorites of the series of movies, probably equal to the first one, and the one before this one. I think Bale does a good job with the role, and the action scenes were very well directed. I thought the story was kind of lackluster, but then again, these are comic book based stories, and one can’t expect too much from them.

So overall, I though it a decent enough movie, but nothing as stupendous as they made it out to be especially because of the death of Ledger. I thought his performance was very very good, at least as good as Nicholson’s if not darker, and much scarier. I found him unnerving throughout the movie, and I guess that meant he had me convinced. I’d like to see him receive an award for it. I think is was THAT good. Thought out, consistent and well executed, with this and his performance in Brokeback Mountain, I think his last works have earned him recognition.

Rumor has it that they will start shooting the next movie in January. With Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Cher as Catwoman.
