My next favorite would probably be 8/13/96 as Spooks mentioned earlier. It is really a great show opener…too bad it wasn’t used more in that spot.
I also like any Gorge version…just with that huge open sky it just seems so fitting.
is it just me or are the earlier versions ('90-'94) better than the latter versions? my ears seemed pleased by any pre-'95 version.

The divided sky @ Alpine in 2004, made me cry a bit, not only the last in PERSON show for my FAV band, but my FAV tune…If you have to pick…
I will not break down which tune at which show for this song because, I would never agree with myself… I love the power and the free feeling I get when they hit hard…I miss it!
One of those songs I’m sure was ALWAYS moving live.
Listened to 12/31/96 today during a mini-road trip, and it is unbelievable how loud the crowd is during the silent part.

I just can’t believe every is so minutely critical of phish… i have voiced this opion before and ill voice it again… when phish mess up that is purely artistic. these guys play tighter music than any band has ever that has yet to exist. no four guys have ever had the synergy these guys do, which is why we all love them.
Divided is the #1 tune regardless of any fuck up… period…yeah…

Amazing tune. It was one of those tunes (as it was for so many others) that really showed me how great this band was. Reba and DSky are those tunes for me. The composed sections are so amazing, truly something many bands could NEVER do.
^ and the end builds and releases back into the main theme are just SICK in some of those older shows, circa 94-95, trey just doesn’t stop.
i like an early set 1 divided. you know anything after that is just gravy.
This is one of the first songs that I had heard from Phish were I had that moment where you realize this band is far superior compared to the majority of the other stuff out in the music world.
Yes, I agree. I remember looking at the big screen in the middle of the pavilion during the first section of DS, and Trey had a really cocky smile on his face. The Alpine 04 divided sky is one of my favs because the first section is played with a lot of style that I havent been able to find in other versions. THIS IS MY FAV PHISH SONG FOR SURE and I was just so happy to be able to hear it at Alpine, a very beautiful venue.
^^ I was at those shows and it was extremely special for me to catch that tune…Never got it @ Alpine in 03’ so catching it the next and last year…(for awhile) meant a lot.

this post is where i feel i really needed to go on hiatus, early harpua was pretty ineffectual, then october-febuary harpua was the pennicle of my posting career if you ask me, then it was al ong and drunken slide through the remander of the semester.
post hiatus harpua isn’t that impressive but it is better than that sloppy april-may posting. I am trying to rejuvinate my career though

Yesterday I was riding with my brother to a gig, and we were listening to set one of this show (mainly because I wanted to laugh with him about how silly it is when Trey goes, “My friend! My … my special friend! My special friend!” during Harpua). Now, my brother isn’t a real fan per se, but he does really appreciate Phish. He saw them a few times with me in '93 & '94 and has a few early albums. Also, we used to be in a band that covered some Phish about 12 years ago.
Well, it’s at around 13 or 14 minutes into this particular version of Divided Sky, and the band is just smokin’ - super tight, playing unearthly music that isn’t really humanly possible. Super high-energy and really well-oiled, as is typical of fall '94.
