Yeah, the 94 jams were pretty discordant whereas Post-Hiatus spacey jams just can’t be beat. I wouldn’t even call the post-hiatus jams discordant at all. They are more…spaced-out! 
I know I have a lot of trouble listening through some of those earlier longer Tweezers, like the one on A Live One.

I love Caspian but they always seem to place it in the wrong spot that kills the set!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a Caspian that made me sit up and take notice (tell it like it is), let alone think to myself “wow that was great placement!!” I think I just tolerate Caspian anymore. It works so god damn well on the album, and I love the story about them recording it, but live it is kind of a bummer.
It might just be me but as the catalog grew, so did the buzzkills?, thoughts?
Encores of first and last night Hampton '03, anyone?
Almost any show with a huge jam at the beginning/middle of the 2nd set is going to kind of seem like it fizzle’s out after that jam. I was just thinking of 11/14/95, 12/29/94 and 11/21/97 (to a lesser extent). It’s gotta be different if you are actually there and riding that huge wave, and can feel the water rushing around you still after the jam, but on tape, I generally stop paying as much attention after the Stash, Bowie and Bag respectively. Thoughts?
In all fairness, there’s all of 3 songs after the Bag on 11/21/97…

I agree, but after a jam like that even a beautiful Slave just can’t seem nearly as mind boggling as it normally would. It’s what comedians call “leaving on a high note”. It’s harder to do in music because sometimes you hit that high note early in the show. It’s not like you can leave the stage after 45 minutes of playing.
Also, can you think of a better run of shows to be obsessed with? Perhaps the best ever versions of AC/DC Bag, Halleys, Tweezer, Black Eyed Katy, Emotional Rescue, and that Mikes Groove…c’mon…why haven’t they released those damn shows yet?
