I ain’t no queen, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’d have to agree with you when you make it about being the best all around front man. Freddy was definitely the genius out of that list.
If Eddie Vedder had a better sounding voice, I might have given him the nod, although the musical structures of his songs aren’t nearly as complex as Mercury’s, or Pluto’s for that matter.
hes an ass, but its probably morrison
Good Lord…it’s GOT to be Jim Morrison. No one even comes close. He was a singer, a theater act and a walking disaster all rolled into one. No one comes close.
A close second would be Robert Plant if only because his voice was almost a fourth instrument. Third place goes to Mick Jagger because, damn, he’s fun to watch.
And might I add that this poll is SEVERELY lacking in that it doesn’t have Bruce Springsteen…I’m not kidding…go see the guy one time and you’ll see what I mean. There’s a reason that he’s so revered and it’s the live act. And everyone hates him but Bono is very good as well.
Stevo
I thought about Morrison, but I’m not a big fan of the Doors to begin with, think they’re a bit overrated mostly because of Morrison’s appeal as a rebel at the time. Although the lyrics were his, the music was mostly not, so creatively, he doesn’t come close, in my mind to either Vedder or Freddy.
I like Vedder and can appreciate Mercury’s obvious talent. But I went with Morrison.
But I think Chris Robinson beats em’ all out.
^^^ The only reason I didn’t include Bruce is that he really isn’t a frontman, he is himself, as Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band. The same reason Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, etc. isn’t included.
I wanted this to be about a band who is fronted by a singer who only sings, doesn’t play an instrument.
It was down to Bono & Eddie for the last spot and I went with Eddie.
Bono has become something unto himself and I really don’t like that. He sets himself apart from U2.
ummm…Trey?
ok maybe not.
I say Roger Daltrey. Guys voice just never quit. Great stage presence, … and Townshend’s lyrics? (Uh … how do I spell ‘forget about it’ all NYC-style?) …
Eh, I just like the Who more than those other bands maybe.

nobody works a room like Eddie.
nobody i’ve seen anyway.
not to mention the voice, the songs and the force of his vehicle.
i voted for Jim Morrrison. that dude rocks!
Thanks Glenn. I’m in the mood for some reggae today…
no mention of this guy either??!!

Having said that, did Bon Scott play an instrument?
^nope. Good call; Long Live Bon Scott!
They all suckle at the proverbial tit of Jagger. Plus none of the above mentioned write lyrics anywhere near as good as Jagger. Regardless, there are too many greats left off that list, but the fact that anyone would say that Jim Morrison has any talent whatsoever other than being a no-talent hack is just shocking to me. The rest of the list, other than Jagger, is actually laughable to me.
you have forgotten someone very important. i think the poll should be remade and include this man instead of eddie vedder.
Steve Perry.

my vote goes to him. nothing hits my quite like a journey song. nothing.
hey, we’ve all made mistakes

I must admit, I do really like Jagger.
And Freddy Mercury.
The others are great but those 2…what showmanship!
And that’s certainly the main quality you want in a frontman.
Gotta go with Roth for the poll. Perhaps if you all had put some thought into this Roth would have been your decision! Here are some raw facts. No other band on that list has had a more eagerly anticipated reunion than VH. granted some of these guys are dead but excuses are a turn off for me. For a good portion of the 70’s Roth’s name was thought to be Van Halen! The name of the band is in honer of the drummer and guitar player and the focal point of the band is the Fromtman! Not to mention we share a cousin by marriage and i met him at her Bat Mitzvah and is a cool dude. Shalom Diamond Dave!
Not in the Poll is the true winner of this contest!
