The importance of the flow...

one thing that i’ve noticed, as i’m sure many of you have, is that these shows and sets are flowing very nicely. even without segues, the utter importance of getting right into the next song once the last is finished… trey starting an opening riff almost right on top of the button ending of the last.

segues are nice and if done well REALLY add some intensity to a show, but i have to assume the setlists have been more or less written out and decided well before they hit the stage. there haven’t been too many times when there’s more than even 10-20 seconds in between tunes, not many long band discussions about what’s next. i think this makes a HUGE difference. it shows their confidence and get-after-it attitude that they’ve come back with.

that being said, and as they become even more locked in, there will be segue-fest sets and more space/weird/wild jams…but right now they’re really playing with some passion and it shows in how the sets flow

PLAY ON PHISH!!!

(IMPATIENT) BUMP

i guess not important enough :::sniffle sniffle::: :’(

I agree…The sets are unfolding in an amazing fashion and it really keeps fans on their toes…I keep saying to myself “Whats next!!!”…Didn’t Trey say they did not practice coming of the Hiatus going into 2.0??? Well, I think it showed…Now i hear Big Red is going old school and really practicing hard…Guess what, IT SHOWS!!!

Is it me or is Trey having FUN AGAIN!!!

I don’t think 2.0 was much fun for him and the drugs and Tour kicked the shit out off him (See Conventry)…

I love the flow so far from each set and you can tell Trey is really putting the effort in…

Go listen to TTE on the album 1st, then go listen to it from JB…SPOT FUCKING ON ALMOST!!!
That cannot be accomplished without practice and lots of it…

:stuck_out_tongue:

HAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Funny as shit!!

what i’ve never understood about flomax, from watching the commercials and whatnot, it seems that it’s supposed to regulate your flow and stop older people’s urge to piss every 10 minutes… so why the name flomax??? shouldn’t it be floless? or something

maybe i’m way off on what that product does, but hell…it sure puts a huge smile on a bunch of middle-aged guys’ faces while they’re enjoying their favorite activities, like canoeing and playing touch football

ovaltine? it should be called roundtine!

but yeah, the boys are practicing a lot these days and it shows. plus, if you’re playing better music, it’s A LOT more fun!

Dead air is so bad for any show. I’ll have to remind myself of that tomorrow when I’m looking at my brother, thinking, “I have no idea what to play next.” Maybe I’ll make a setlist for tomorrow.

I’m glad to hear their flow is improving in regard to down time between songs. I remember the big breaks between tunes starting as early as '98 (I’m thinking 7/15, LP17). Check out them old shows man, they’re just always right on to the next song!

^ exactly. right on top of it. with my band that’s how it is too, gotta keep the music goin, catch people off guard at the end of a song, keep the momentum

Yes. The flow is what keeps peoples’ attention. If you lose their attention, I think it is kind of difficult to get it back.

flow so sick make ya wanna throw ya food up (did I just quote lil’ wanye)

Flow makes me grab my hip, make my backbone slip
