gotta love TMWSIY
Oh Yes.
It is more like a studio recording than a live recording, but it is not truly a studio recording. I just call it Trey’s Thesis. Crazy college Trey and his wild stories. Excellent.
I haven’t listened to one of these shows in a long time… Gonna pop on momadave’s first show when I get home from work tonight.
just got the original trey recording at sharefreemusic.
awesome.
^Isn’t it though?
^ yes it is. the snake in the background does get old,if you want to turn it up louder.
best live cut is definitely the last one ever (1994.07.08 - Great Woods). But there’s something so “The Wall”-ish about the recorded one, the recurring musical motifs and what not are awesome (exp. right before wilson, when treys explaining mr palmers situation, page turns from the happy motif of mcgrupp and right into the darkness of the wilson chords, pure musical mastery)
Just had a long road trip today and listened to 3-22-93 the whole way through. WOW. SO great
I love Gamehendge. It is such a wonderfully contrived and epic story.
nice - thanks for the orginal recording link. . now I am downloading ths SBD of 3.22.93. can’t wait to listen!
I tried to recently explain this story to a non-fan, who had heard of the band but never heard the story.
I was hard . . .

Is that a typo or were you that excited about TMWSIY? There is no wrong answer.
Queued up Set 2 of 1993-03-22…but first, Reba from the first set!
Yeah, you can feel silly trying to explain the story…it’s best to just have someone listen.
“So, yeah, then the Mockingbird gets the book and…uh…I guess it helps the Revolution and…uh…they hire someone to kill Wilson, I think…and…uh…Errand takes over…and uh, something about a door…then someone drives over a Possum…and…uh…then it ends."
love me some tmwsiy!
I just re-read this thread, and realized I need to spin 3/22/93. I know I’ve heard it but I’m not really that familiar with it I guess.
The March '88 live Gamehenge at Nectar’s might be my overall favorite, … but again I’d better listen to the 3/22/93.
In general I don’t prefer the studio version (yeah, I called it that) and maybe ultimately the Great Woods performance was the quintessential one.
What a great Phish album that doesn’t exist.
I just rediscovered a theory that the Nectar’s Gamehenge show has been a year off all along, mislabeled as 3/12/88 all this time, when it’s really from 3/12/89.
What tipped me off was the Colorado '88 release! It reveals less-developed versions of some of this material, resembling the 4-track thesis recording. The Nectar’s Gamehenge shows that it had evolved by then, past what we hear in Colorado '88, which was July/August.
Additional supporting clues:
Tela was announced from the stage as a debut in May of '88.
3/12/89’s setlist is incomplete, one set only. And, so is “3/12/88”.
Sayin’.
