Go Big Ten!
MSU has lost already to a DII opponent, as has Ohio State.
In their own buildings.
Yes, exhibition.
But still…

That is just plain sad. What a joke.
The Big 10 is the most overrated conference in both football and basketball.

I know it’s true.
I pumped for this season. No clear clear favorites. Should be in for a ride
I personally don’t think they’re overrated because I personally think they are mediocre and certainly not what they were, say, 5-10 years ago.
longs for mid-90s when Purdue basketball won 3 straight Big Ten titles
Actually, Purdue’s freshman class this year is HUGE. All in-state guys, too.
Add Kentucky to the list of college basketball chump teams.
Michigan State almost lost to a Div. II team again last night.
Gawd, what is MSU’s problem!?
I heard Izzo kicked everyone out of their brand new state-of-the-art locker room and made everyone change in the hallway.
I know it’s only one game into the season but Syracuse is already looking good. Two freshman, Donte Green and Jonny Flynn, logged 36 minutes each last night. Flynn was 6-7 from 3pt and also had 5 rebounds and 9 assists in his Syracuse Freshman debut record 28 point outing. These two are going to turn heads this season.
They are a very young team with only 1 Senior who probably won’t see a lot of time and 2 Juniors who both start. They lost a great Guard over the summer in Andy Rautins who tore his ACL with the Canadian nationals team. He will be back next year. I have good expectations for this team as long as they limit their turnovers and stretch their zone to cover the 3pt. shots.
Too bad McNamara is gone. I loved watching him play.
Here’s to hoping the Orangement and Boilermakers have great seasons!
raises coffee thermos
hell yeah! gmac was the man. it was different without him there last season but i think they will have a solid team this year. just cracked the top 25 (25th) this week in one of the polls. but honestly id rather be under the radar until march.
i couldn’t afford season tix this year. too many house expenses the past couple months. ill prob scalp a bunch of games instead. i started going to games in 1982 when i was just over 1 years old. so this will mark my 26th season of syracuse basketball. my parents raised me well.
while i’m on the subject, i have a funny but gross/unfortunate story about syracuse basketball games. in '82 at on of the first games my parents took me to i was in one of those baby carts that they can carry around since a stroller would be a pain in the ass at the dome. it was right around my first birthday (february) so i am sure it was an important big east game. so while in the baby seat in the stands i was just wearing an orange syracuse shirt and a diaper. all of a sudden i take a monster shit, only its all liquid and full of fury. it goes out the sides of my diapers and all over the couple in front of us. my parents were so embarrassed but honestly what can you do? they said i was laughing a little after it happened. the couple got up and just walked out of the dome. poor people. hopefully cuse won that night.
good luck boilermakers!
you shit on other human beings in public?
only babies can get away with that. damn.
so i take it you must be a card-carrying member of the “i hate keith smart” fan club?
Haha, I was waiting for a Keith Smart reference at some point. I may have only been 6 but I knew what was going on. Can’t believe he hit that shot. I still have a copy of that game on VHS. Even though they didn’t win I used to watch it a lot as a kid when I was playing basketball so I could learn more about the game. It took them 3 tries spanning 3 decades but they finally got their championship in 2003. If they don’t lose anyone from the team this year I really think they can make a run at a championship next season. All depends on how quickly they gel.
^
My Keith Smart moment was one year later in the Sweet 16 when Purdue lost to Memphis State - a team they had crushed earlier in the year by like 30.
You will find a lot of Boiler fans, myself included, who will say that not only was that the best Purdue team of all time, but that it was probably Keady’s best chance to win a title (other than maybe 94 or 00).
And wasn’t the 03 championship where Heinrich rimmed out a shot at the buzzer? So they could have lost that one?
That’s what it was…I knew it was some sort of corner shot.
Haha! Kansas was pretty damn good that year, if I recall.
Ahh college baketball, the only time of year to get excited about sports here in Memphis. I’m thinking the Tigers are definitely going to go to the Final Four this year. We’re usually overlooked by sports analysts and whatnot but we’ve got something this year. I’m smelling championship.
Did anyone else see the Davidson/UNC game last night? It was in a small gym (compared to big arenas) at Davidson and half the gym was wearing Carolina blue.
It was a great game, and a real gut-check for the #1 team to play a smaller inter-state rival on the road.
It was in the Charlotte Bobcats arena, not Davidson’s home court.
I watched the whole game and really thought Davidson could have won. They missed two dunks and a couple layups towards the end of the game that really cost them the victory.
[edit]
The announcers said of the ~1,700 students at Davidson between 1,100 and 1,200 tickets were sold to their students. They have between 200 and 300 students studying abroad too. That’s awesome to see about 75% of their school attended this game.
[/edit]
Oh yeah, that’s right. I thought I saw a Bobcats logo.
For some reason it just felt, based on the crowd noise, like a smaller arena.
Huh.
It def had a small arena feel to it. I didn’t realize where it was until I saw the logo. My friend just got an apartment a few blocks away from there. It’s a very cool city/arena.
