This past Friday night I was forced to “educate” my 8 year old grandson when he was over for dinner with his Cowboy loving father, and he proceeded to convince me how badly the Giants were going to get beaten by New England yesterday. Parroting mostly what he hears in his house, at 8 years old, he really hasn’t developed the long term hate for the Giants that his father exhibits, so I don’t blame him so much for his statements. But I took him to my knee, in a grandfatherly way, and with his father in ear shot, but pretending not to listen, I tried to tell Jaime not to listen to all the “experts” no matter what they say.
“The experts said that the Giants would lose to Tampa Bay, and guess who won? And then the experts said the Giants could never beat the mighty Cowboys in Dallas, but guess who won that as well. Finally, the experts said the Giants could never go to Green Bay in 4 degree weather and beat the Packers, but who got into the Superbowl afterall? And now the experts are saying the Patriots are going to walk all over the Giants. Are you telling me, you’re still going to listen to all those experts?”
He said “yeah, cause the Patriots are going to kill the Giants”.
I told him to go eat his pizza because it was obvious the brainwashing was already working. Allthough maybe he’s remembering our little talk this morning. Sure would like to get him to enjoy the spirit of the game first before becoming a hardnosed fanatic.

Which is fairly impressive since that was back in the stone age and nothing has eclipsed it since.
