The Official 2007 NFL Thread!

16-0.

Plus QB & WR TD records (ties).

:o

No ties chief they own em…also single season scoring record…Jawbone, Ghosty?

^ I stand corrected!

Congrats.

Go Browns!

P.S. Go Colts!

P.P.S. I’m drunk already!

Go Cowboys!!! They need to win for the Vikes to have a chance at the playoffs.

I’d put the Vikes chances of makin’ the playoffs at 10 percent today. Either way I’m gettin’ drunk as fuck.

Yzaaaaaa browns!!! hsaiqsuquq ya!!!

What a weird NFL weekend.

There’s always next year.

Damnit I’m gettin’ tired of saying that every year. Tarvaris Jackson and Brad Childress is the most brutal combination in the NFL. I mean, that shit is boring!

FUCKING PATS

well the 72 phins had a good record while it lasted

too bad the pats aint gonna win the first playoff round

Time for another Lions rant…sorry guys…

Well…the Lions have fired Mike Martz. Hilarious.

Seriously, the ONE part of the Lions that has actually looked slightly better with the Lions in the last two years has been that the offense has scored more points…and they fire the guy who ran it. Seriously, the defense is FAR worse and was ranked 32nd in practically every category, the linebackers are a joke, the secondary stinks and aside from the actual kickers themselves, the special teams are horrendous. In SEVEN games this year (against Philly, Washington, Arizona, @Minnesota, both Green Bay games and San Diego) the defense had NO chance of stopping ANYTHING the opposing offense was doing…in SEVEN frickin games…yet it’s the offensive coordinator that’s been fired.

Even better, the new O-coordinator is the guy who was the OFFENSIVE LINE COACH last year. That’s right, the coach of the WORST O-line in the league who couldn’t run for shit in a majority of the games and who gave up a league-leading number of sacks. Yet, that guys gets promoted to O-Coordinator while the WR coach is promoted to work on the passing game. The plan is basically run Martz’s offense yet incorporate more running. If that sounds familiar, you’re right because when the Rams fired Martz they basically said the same thing…and we all see how THAT’S working.

Dear Lord…classic Lions logic. Don’t address needs, reward coaches who kiss ass and fire those who improve the team. 4-12 next year.

Stevo

Matt Millen for precedent!

Martz needed to go if Marinelli was ever gonna get his system in place.
The defense being SO bad and being on the field so much had alot to do with the offense martz was running. How much time do you expect to run off when you pass three times only to go 3 and out? The clock stops on every incompletion hence the D was overworked. marinelli is a clock control guy so the Martz thing never made sense to begin with. When you play a team that passes 75% of the time it’s not hard to defense that.

No doubt i enjoyed seeing the team score more but it was at a higher cost to the defense. There are only so many shootouts you can win and even the Patriots realized they had to get the RUN game going to maintain their success!

Now some picks for the weekend

Seattle over Washington 24-21

It’s gonna take some luck but hasselbeck and Co always seem to find some in the playoffs. This will be their only win

NY over TB 28-17

Not enough offense for TB and Brandon Jacobs will destroy them.

Steelers over Jags 21-20

I bet the Jags go up by 14 in this game only to let it slip away to Ben and Santonio on a big 2 minute drill!

Chargers over Titans 35-10

The Chargers D will crush the 4 headed rushing attack of TN. Nuff said!

Yeah, it seems like everyone and their brother is on the Jacksonville bandwagon.

Not me.

I agree with the Steelers and Chargers picks.
However, I see TB winning at home in a close one against the NYG. Also, I see Washington going into Seattle and STUNNING the Seahawks. It’ll be the biggest playoff upset since the Steelers beat the Colts in Indy 2 years ago.

If Washington wins i wont look at it as a BIG upset. Seattle has been wishy washy all year but the way they play at home gives them the slight advantage.

I think I saw where Seattle has the second best home record over the past 3 seasons.

Best in the NFC.

So it is tough to go into Qwest Field and win.

Allow me to politely disagree…

For one, the offense didn’t have a lot of three-and-outs. The COULD get first downs and did keep the defense off the field most of the time. The problem was the O-Line was so fricking bad that they couldn’t even run the ball even if they WANTED to. Even worse, they couldn’t block for shit and Kitna was sent running or sacked on every other pass play which constantly spoiled a good drive. It got to the point where you could TELL that Kitna had NO faith in his line at all. How do you get anything done with a line that bad? How is Matt Millen putting in terrible players Martz’s fault?

Marinelli is a clock control guy? Since when? All I know is he’s a defensive-line coach. Look, I like the guy but he has been less than impressive. His in-game coaching is laughable at best and his time-management is horrendous. And while I’m with you on clock control…I’ve ranted on here forever about how teams need to run the ball…but with this Lions team they couldn’t run anyway…the pass is the only way they were gonna beat anyone. Martz gave that team the best chance to win ANY games. Besides, the Lions KNEW what they were getting with Martz…if he was going to go against their philosophy, why hire him?

And I’m sorry…I do NOT buy that crap about a defense being “tired.” That’s one of the worst defensive units in football. What frickin joke. The D-Line is horrible. Shaun Rogers shows up to 1/3 of the games when he’s not exhausted and taking himself out of plays, Corey Redding’s a joke and doesn’t even want to be here and don’t even get me started on Kalimba Edwards. Aside from Ernie Sims, the Linebackers are horrendous and can’t tackle and the secondary is the absolute worst in football. Not to mention that Marinelli is so in love with his stupid Tampa-2 zone crap that he thinks that he can plug in any old player and “coach him up” to get him to play in the system. He seems to forget that he had pro-bowlers all over the place on his defense in Tampa which made it work…as always, systems are nice but you need good players for them to work…especially in the NFL. Frankly, the Cover-2 defense is flawed in general and he’s got to learn to mix in other types of defenses or we’ll see more of the same. Anytime the Lions play a competent QB with a competent O-Line, expect them to get torched.

Look…Martz wasn’t perfect but he was the only reason the Lions won anything last year. Simple as that. To fire him with all the glaring holes in the teams yet still want to KEEP HIS SYSTEM is ridiculous. That’s right, B, they’re still running the same system without Martz next year…

Again, I know this…but it’s the frickin Lions. At this point I’d be happy if they just make the playoffs and get crushed in the first round because they’re light years away from ever making a Super Bowl and have no shot as long as Millen’s here anyway. So if we can wildly pass our way to the playoffs, then that’s fine by me. It’s better than what he had before.

Anyway…quick PLAYYYOFFFF picks:

-I’ll take Seattle to edge out a close one over Washington. I love the Washington secondary but I don’t like the offense…though Todd Collins has been very impressive. I think Hasselbeck has just enough to lead them to a win. Seattle covers.

-I LOVE Jacksonville…they’re a football purist’s dream. They have sick defense, a great run game, control the clock, and have a QB who is efficient. However, I’ve liked them year after year yet they keep losing in the playoffs. I refuse to pick them to win anything until they actually WIN a damn game. Not to mention that the Steelers are nothing to sneeze at and they’re at home and still have a fantastic defense that will definitely improve the mistakes they made the last time they played Jax. I’ll bet they’ll load the box to stop the run and make Garrard beat them which won’t happen. Big Ben’s good enough to throw for a few TDs. Steelers win

-Tampa and the Giants is a nice little matchup. Tampa’s cute and have some good D but people forget that the Giants D has been solid all year. I don’t think Tampa will score a lot and it’ll be enough for Eli to lead them to a few scores. Giants cover.

-Lastly, I think everyone on the entire Titans roster is hurt. I think Jeff Fisher even turned an ankle yesterday…I’m not sure. I can’t stand Kerry Collins as a QB and yet I still think he gives the Titans a better shot at winning that Vince Young who I’m still not sure can throw a pass. Chargers win, but it’ll be closer than people think since the Titans D will keep them in the game but the Titans offense will let them down. Titans cover the 9.5 spread but they’ll lose by six points or so.

Stevo

Sean Salisbury on M&M this morning said something to the effect of “Beware of Jeff Fisher, don’t bring a knife to a gunfight but in this case it will be a sword.”

Or something like that.

Lions over the Cardinals 26 - 10

haha Jesus, El Bastarde’s posts in these sports threads are ridiculous

not in a bad way…just ridiculously long-winded

keep up the good work mang

these games kinda bore me this week. The only one I really want to watch is Jags/Steelers. thankfully that is the one game I think I can watch because of my work schedule.

I don’t really care who wins any of these games. Seattle is always overrated, but I can’t say I like any of the other three NFC teams much either. blah.
