After reading Greg’s reviews, and looking at ghost_2000’s Snippet thread, I had an idea for the OKP. I was thinking we could somehow select a show every week either by vote, or by personal request on a first come first serve basis. The idea is that you listen to the show, and as a group everyone talks about the show, the highlights, the lowlights, or even review the show entirely. I’d like to hear thoughts and see if anyone would be interested.

i can’t say this is a bad idea.

the only thing is:
a) the show in question needs to be readily available to those who don’t own it
b) we work out a highly organized listening/reviewing schedule
c) i’m drunk

Yeah, that’s why I want feedback, I’d like to know what everyone thinks the best way to do it would be.

I think it’s a good idea

the problem is for everybody to have the show, some of us may have it, others may not. tela.sugarmegs has a good deal of them, i did the math earlier…

this would be a great way to gather a new collection of show reviews, kinda like the ones on phish.net except better, maybe more uniform… like we could stick to a template to follow in reviewing the show

AAAH YES…funnily enough the week4paug show of the week has basically stopped now, so this will give me my fix.

I suggest that we make a list of people who want to pick a show, this list will be gone through weekly. We could get each show up by sendspace, perhaps someone could donate this if the picker doesn’t have the files. Someone like WillB could seed it on Etree for the lossless people.

Also, if each pick is organised into an individual thread, Ian should make a new board to accomodate all of these.

But then again, having it all on the LivePhish board could get more people to come here! In recent weeks (before Greg’s fall 97 posts) it has been rather dry!

Any thoughts on this?

Here’s my thoughts:

  1. This is an ace idea and we should definitely do it.

  2. The shows we pick can’t be anything that has been officially released. I mean on CD or DVD. I realize all of post-hiatus is on LivePhish.com for the purchase, but the only show I think should be excluded is the first night of Brooklyn.

  3. We’ll do a show a week, and whoeever wants to go next can call dibs.

  4. Whatever show you pick, it’s your responsibility to either give us a link to download the show or SendSpace/PutFile it. I want people to pick obscure shows, but if the rest of us can’t hear it, it’s pointless.

  5. I think this should go in Live Phish discussion, but let’s sort it out in here first and let Ian know what’s up.

whoever said this was like a “book club” was spot on.

Greg - obscure is good…but not too obscure. I mean, for god’s sake…you haven’t heard HCA. so technically we could start with that one.

let’s let the discussion brew for a few more days and then we’ll start discussing shows to pick!

I think each member should get a chance; people should just sign up as if it were a vine. Also, if someone wants to put up an obscure show, it doesn’t have to be their sole responsibility - we call all help if he/she doesn’t have the files.

Right on, I was thinking sendspace would work well, but was worried about backlash from the WAV vs. MP3 community.

Edit: Also, what day of the week should the ‘week’ begin on?

Monday. Let’s keep it traditional. We’ll announce/post the show on Monday and the rest of the week is spent listening and reviewing. Then the next show will pop up the following Monday.

Great idea. I don’t have a huge collection, or I’d choose some shows. I like sendspace - as long as everyone can get the show.

I’d like to post 11/7/96 as I feel not nearly enough people have heard that Gin, and it is not the most commonly found show on most peoples lists. Mark me down man…I’ll post one up for sure.

We should put some kind of twist on this though, so it’s not exactly like Week4paug’s show of the week.

Like we pick highlights each week or something

It would be interesting if we did this with side projects (GRAB shows, Trey shows, Mike shows, Vida Blue…might turn eachother on to new stuff)
