i’ve always hated the nuge, and now even more. anybody who gets off on killing animals like that guy does obviously has psychotic issues. and that essay was the most self-righteous piece of shit i’ve ever read.
I bet that many of the musicians that inspired TN to persue music used drugs. Good points above too, that he conveniently bypasses any of his own demons and character flaws in favor of attacking those of others.
I was never a big Nugent fan, and not just because everyone knew in the 60s what his view on the hippy lifestyle was. His music just wasn’t all that to begin with.
That being said, he wasn’t necessarily alone in this viewpoint among more creative and intelligent musicians like Frank Zappa for one, and Roger Waters for another. Although considerably less candid than Nugent about the cultural aspects of their customer base, supposedly neither Zappa or Waters particulary liked the hippy “lifestyle” and the drug use that went along with it. (Waters was into drugs early in his musical career, but stopped in an attempt to help reduce the influence on Barrett, to no avail.)
Makes you wonder about the sheer power of their creative genius.[color=black]
well, syd used to get dosed by all the leeches around him, without him knowing it, i had read someplace that they used to dose his coffee, so that the first thing he ingested when he woke up was coffee and L, i doubt roger would have had much pull anyway with shit like that going down
Growing up surrounded by the hippie mentality I never saw it any other way. I love hippies and the music but in the end I hate the drugs. All you good people be careful.
Marley, your cracking me up, you read my mind on these quotes.
I can’t stand that waste of flesh.
Ted Nuggent is a tourist.
Even worse a hypocrite.
“If you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, then go home and burn all your records, all your tapes, and all your CDs because every one of those artists who have made brilliant music and enhanced your lives? RrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrEAL fucking high on drugs. The Beatles were so fucking high they let Ringo sing a few songs”
"The musicians today who don’t do drugs and in fact speak out against it? “Rock Against Drugs?” BOY do they suck.
Remember that a few years ago, people said if you play albums backwards there are satanic messages? Let me tell you something, if you’ve ever sat around playing your albums backwards, you are Satan.
Because you know if you play New Kids on the Block albums backwards they sound better. “Oh come on, Bill, they’re the New Kids, don’t pick on them, they’re so good and they’re so clean cut and they’re such a good image for the children.” Fuck that! When did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? I want my children to listen to people who fucking ROCKED! I don’t care if they died in puddles of their own vomit! I want someone who plays from his fucking HEART!"
-Bill Hicks (my hero)
I think anything in moderation is alright. Not that I think you should be wasted out of your mind or anything, but I do think that I agree with Mr. Hicks.
Bob got high. REALLY HIGH.
Shit, he got the Beatles high for the first time.
Not that he was wasted or anything.
He also drinks ALOT.
Cheap red wine at all his shows.
But again, in moderation. I think he proves that a little goes a long way.
