I don’t think the post should have been deleted. I read the original post before it was deleted, and while it was in bad taste, I really didn’t think twice about it. I had forgotten about it until this whole thing was brought up. While I understand the mods have the right to delete anything they feel is inappropriate, all deleting it did was create this whole controversy, giving the post a lot more attention than it would have gotten if it was left alone.

That said, I agree with spacecoyote that we should take personal responsibility and not make posts like that. We don’t want to be PT.

I think everyone agrees that comments like the one Greg supposedly made are to garner a reaction and are immature, I still think when applauding ones death is your way of saying you dislike their band or music, that is about as senseless and immature as one can get…

This day and age there are certain boundaries one respectable individual person should stay with in, and I STRONGLY disagree about making light of a persons death… Poor taste and immature are the words that come to mind.

Ohh, and to relate this to name calling regardless of the words used (see notes above), is in no real way a comparison to applauding on a death out of disdain for their music… Come on, even my daughter can see those lines…

We try to keep is casual around here and usually discuss things on the Mod board before we take drastic action.

That said, it’s just my sense of humor. I say tasteless things all the time because I believe humor is a good way of helping people deal with pain, anger, sadness, and frustration. I believe in the whole “totally free speech, or no free speech at all” point of view.

I doubt being an asshole on a message board really hurt anyone’s feelings. That’s my defense, I suppose. Just because I’m a Mod doesn’t mean I have to be some humor-less tool who never swears or makes bad jokes or says mean things about bands. I’m sure 99% of the people who post on here would hate/do hate the bands I like and I wouldn’t throw a fit if they said the best thing that ever happened to the guy from the Silver Jews was when he tried to kill himself.

PHG’s had problems with outside lobbyists in the past. And he’s not the only one.

If you guys only knew how many handjobs Cleetus has got in exchange for deleted members, you’d probably go crosseyed.

us independent party mods have been trying our best to maverick out the corruption for a long time, and we’re hoping that you all can count on us to lead this board into the 3rd phase of Phish with less lies, more funding foe education and lower taxes for baby and little phish so we can all see each other eye to eye.

True, but as a mod you have volunteered to carry a mantle of responsibility with a greater standard that you must hold yourself to. I think maybe there are too many cooks in the kitchen, or not enough that remember the recipe…mods should lead by example, so what kind of message are you sending when those examples are inconsistent and apathetic?

Anyway, I seriously doubt that if you held your tongue once in a while you would become a humorless tool…unless of course you have latent tendencies that you fear might ebb to the surface…

Pretty much everyone at work hates Deerhoof and the Fiery Furnaces with a passion, and always make fun of them around me. And people always rag on me for my drinking and depression and stuff.

I have thick skin and I don’t take most stuff seriously, so no, it wouldn’t bother me.

Weird, a song by Deerhoof just came on my shuffle…

my point exactly, you may have the tough rhino skin needed to take a dis like that and be fine, but some people who love DMB may not be able to stomach any kind of comment like that…

I know if that comment was about a Phish member, this place would be unadulterated chaos and mayhem.
