This album

going through it now on my computer naming all the songs and getting sucked in by the Mango Song and Poor Heart

i forgot about how much stuff from a special part of my life that i connect with this album and just how much i love this band in general.

i’ve started to forget lately.

well anyway

go nectar!

prob my favorite album. SO much Jazz, So much Rock, So much Funk, So much Phish. Plus it’s got Cavern!!!

I tend to forget too how awesome Nectar is for some reason. Up there with my favorite all time albums. Too soon to start a Nectar vinyl thread, but it’s comin.

Shouldn’t we have heard something about this vinyl release by now? Record Store Day is about a month away and no word yet on this being their 2014 release. Now that summer tour has been finalized maybe they’ll have an announcement in the next week or so.

Likely breakdown…

16.“Tweezer Reprise” (Anastasio, Fishman, Gordon, McConnell) – 2:39

I’m surprised we haven’t heard yet too.

But I think the breakdown’s gonna go:

Side 1
“Llama” (Anastasio) – 3:32
“Eliza” (Anastasio) – 1:32
“Cavern” (Anastasio, Herman, Marshall) – 4:24
“Poor Heart” (Gordon) – 2:44
“Stash” (Anastasio, Marshall) – 7:11

Side 2
“Manteca” (Fuller, Gillespie, Pozo) – 0:29
“Guelah Papyrus” (Anastasio, Marshall) – 5:22
“Magilla” (McConnell) – 2:46
“The Landlady” (Anastasio) – 2:56

Side 3
“Glide” (Anastasio, Fishman, Gordon, Marshall, McConnell) – 4:13
“Tweezer” (Anastasio, Fishman, Gordon, McConnell) – 8:42
“The Mango Song” (Anastasio) – 6:23

Side 4
“Chalk Dust Torture” (Anastasio, Marshall) – 4:36
“Faht” (Fishman) – 2:21
“Catapult” (Gordon) – 0:32
“Tweezer Reprise” (Anastasio, Fishman, Gordon, McConnell) – 2:39

I’ve thought about it more than what is probably normal.

The cassette broke between Landlady and Glide. Also, Tweezer and Mango are tied together; they overlap … so it’d be a new mix if they split them. Maybe we haven’t heard about its release yet, because they’re all arguing about the layout.

I tried to envision it as a three sided record, but it’s too long for that I think.

Phish doesn’t put music on side 4.

Sure they do. Bowie is on side 4.

Maybe they’ll throw in a blank third record?

This isn’t part of the master list, which was released yesterday. Boo Phish!

Yeah I checked yesterday too. Maybe they don’t want competition for their other releases? Overstep & ‘Wingsuit’, assuming it’ll be released this year. Maybe they’re gonna wait til the Black Friday RSD event. I’ve waited 22 years, I think six months is do-able. But only just!

So maybe the double Fuego orange vinyl, right? maybe they ordered a bunch of the blank orange vinyl, like, in bulk, so they could press Nectar on the cheap while they’re at it, pass the savings onto ME.

in retrospect, i would have to say that The Mango Song stands as Phish’s finest, single-song, studio achievement based on the evidence that the song has always been nearly impossible for the band to pull off cleanly live while the recorded version is clean as a whistle

Wow, extremely coincidental that this thread was bumped yesterday:

Gonna be sweet!

that is kinda weird. i had been listening to The Mango Song that is on the new LivePhish v10 earlier in the day, and i found myself thinking about how its composed section is not tightly performed. although the version is essential for a great jam that leads away from its traditional ending, it also reminded me i don’t think i’ve ever come across a live version that comes close to matching the composed complexities captured in the studio. with the release of Fuego i’d been thinking about studio Phish a lot and that pristine version on Nectar really seemed noteworthy in that moment

Was very bummed when Record Store Day didn’t have this on their list.

Now I’m happy

Can’t wait for Rift!!!

I wanna see the song breakdown man.

And yeah it’s time to start geekin’ on the Rift vinyl, ha!!

Boo yah! Can’t go to Randall Island but looking forward to getting this in the Fall.

I’m considering going to Randall … and Nectar is weighing in on that decision! I tried to see if the wife’d be okay with it, and she gave me the most neutral answer ever. I’m no closer to a decision, although I should probably take the hint. I’ll bring it up again today and see if it still sounds like “no” after my attempt deciphering the code.

‘Deciphering the code’ has been and always will be one of the hardest things we’ll ever have to do. I wish you luck, sir. Btw, what happened to this!

Had the following conversation:

“By the way honey, I think I’m leaning toward going to that NY show>”

“Yeah I know.”

“Oh. Well, it’d be cool if you would come with me.”

“Nah, I’ll be too anxious if I go, that I ought to be doing other things, and you’ll have a harder time enjoying yourself if I’m anxious, and I just saw them at Great Woods, blah blah blah …”

I guess … I’m goin??

Looks like a win in my book!

Maybe they’ll open with Llama and play Tweezer > Mango Song to celebrate the release party.
