Holy Crap!!! I never knew they played at Chuck’s!!! This was the place I got my first real taste of the Dead. Freshman year there used to be a good Dead cover band that played there every monday. It was the only bar near campus that was 18 to get in - we used to get shit-hammered and dance to the Dead. Then they closed it. Wow. Can’t believe Phish played there. Gotta find this show somewhere.

^ You can get that show on phiSHows.com

Quite possibly my favorite “It’s Ice.” And they played “Fluffhead” after hearing fans clamoring for it!

AMAZING!

Yeah, the FM SBD from this show rules, and it comes one of my favorite Phish tours ever. Summer '94 just owned on so many different levels. 6/11, 6/18, 6/22, 7/8. Two GHenges, a Red Rocks classic, and the famous UIC show from summer '94, wow what an awesome time to be a phan that must’ve been.

I love me summer '94 Ice’s as well. Page breaks it down REAL nice on those Ice’s (might like the 6/18 version better though, just my opinion ;))

Hey pholks…hope everyone had safe travels to Manchester…tonight should be something special…wish I were there. Here is the weekend superpost…Everyone have a safe any happy weekend!

Set II: David Bowie, The Lizards, Axilla (Part II) > Theme From the Bottom, Acoustic Army, Harry Hood, Golgi Apparatus

Encore: Sweet Adeline, Julius

Show Notes: Sweet Adeline was performed without microphones as Trey jokingly tried to break the record for the largest venue played without mics. This version of Golgi, according to Trey, was the “jazz version.”

06/13/1997
The S.F.X. Centre
Dublin, Ireland

Set I: Theme From the Bottom, Dogs Stole Things, Beauty of My Dreams, Billy Breathes, Limb by Limb, Wolfman’s Brother -> Wading in the Velvet Sea, Taste

Set II: Stash, Maze, Water in the Sky, Vultures, Slave to the Traffic Light, Chalk Dust Torture > Ghost > Oblivious Fool, Character Zero

Listen before Stash for a Tequila tease during the tune-up.

06/13/2000
Club Quattro
Naka-ku
Nagoya, Japan

Set I: Meat, Maze, Meat Reprise, Ya Mar, Fast Enough for You, The Old Home Place > Wilson > Mike’s Song -> Simple > Weekapaug Groove

Set II: Gotta Jibboo, Wolfman’s Brother, Run Like an Antelope -> Contact > Sand, Roggae > Prince Caspian > Rocky Top > Cavern

Encore: Brian and Robert, Good Times Bad Times

Show Notes: Cavern included the older, alternate lyrics and a drawn-out, feedback-enhanced ending. The band teased Is She Really Going Out With Him before Jibboo and after Wolfman’s, with the audience singing along at one point. The audience tried in vain to coerce Phish to play it in its entirety. Antelope was unfinished - Mike segued into a funky version of Contact right before the “Rye, Rye, Rocco” lyric segment of Antelope.

06/14

12 years ago on this date Bye Bye Foot, Dirt, Twist, Piper, I Saw it Again, and Waking Up were all played for the first time.

Set II: Frankenstein, Demand > David Bowie, If I Could, It’s Ice, Sparkle, You Enjoy Myself, HYHU > Bike > HYHU, Possum

Encore: Sample in a Jar

Show Notes: After The Asse Festival segment of Guelah, the band launched into Adeline and then moved into a Digital Delay Loop Jam before finishing the song. YEM included On Broadway teases in both the jam and the vocal jam; it was also teased during Possum. HYHU segued out of the YEM vocal jam and included Fishman talking about how much he hates that song (though he has nothing personal against Argent, who wrote it). Possum included Dave’s Energy Guide teases.

06/14/1995
Mud Island Amphitheater
Memphis, TN

Set I: Don’t You Wanna Go, Gumbo, NICU, Mound, Cavern, Possum, All Things Reconsidered, Amazing Grace, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Spock’s Brain, Split Open and Melt

Set II: Also Sprach Zarathustra > Poor Heart > Tweezer, Acoustic Army, While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Encore: Simple, Rocky Top > Tweezer Reprise

Show Notes: The highlight of this show was a massive, long (almost 50 minutes!), jammed out Tweezer that included a brief Gypsy Queen jam, an Also Sprach tease, a Slave-like jam, and a Digital Delay Loop Jam with whistling. Simple was performed with an a cappella ending instead of a jam, akin to the ALO version from December 8, 1994. Amazing Grace was performed without microphones. Listen for a Stairway to Heaven tease at the start of the first set.

06/14/1997
The S.F.X. Centre

Set II: Back on the Train, Twist > Jam -> Walk Away -> Also Sprach Zarathustra

Show Notes: Trey altered the lyrics in Cities to reference noodles. Fee included a well-received tease of the old Charlie Chan Signal lick from Fishman, who played it on the woodblock during one of his breaks. The jam between Twist and Walk Away included a jam rooted in the intro to Ghost. Sleep (first since July 26, 1999, or 52 shows) was played by request.

Encore: Bouncing Around the Room, Frankenstein

Show Notes: Stash was unfinished and melted into I Didn’t Know, which was performed in an eerie, slower fashion and featured Fishman on trombone, Mike on electric drill, and Trey on megaphone. Fans of Page will want to seek out this odd, atypical Bowie, as he dominated the jam segment. Bowie also included some odd chanting, including the phrase “Send me on my way” (although not in a manner similar to the Rusted Root song of the same name).

Encore**: Grind, Hello My Baby, Hold Your Head Up > Bike > Hold Your Head Up, Loving Cup

Note: * First Walk Away since 10/5/00. **The show ended at 12:10am, long after a reported 11pm curfew, including an encore exceeding 22 minutes on its own! (The first set was 8:10-9:40pm, second set 10:10-11:40pm.) Short version: They paused between Grind and Hello my baby because Page blew the wrong note. Hello my baby was unfinished with Trey laughing and telling the crowd Fishman will now sing Bike. Long version (corrected): They sang Grind. About halfway through it was obvious that something was wrong. They were singing the song in the wrong key and some of them (Fishman) couldn’t hit the correct notes. They finished Grind laughing and regrouped to sing it again. This is when Trey commented that Page blew the wrong note which accidentally started them off in the wrong key. They began to restart Grind to sing it again in the correct key, but were laughing and quickly abandoned it. Then they huddled together for a game plan, but they didn’t realize they were too close to the mics and the audience could hear what they were saying. Trey asked the crowd if we could hear everything they were saying and the crowd went crazy. When they came out of the huddle Trey said, “If we mess this up, Fish will sing Bike for you.” The crowd went nuts again. They tried Hello My Baby, but this was quickly scrapped because they were laughing so hard and Trey said,“Now Fish will sing Bike for you.” and ran to the drum kit. Fish was obviously put on the spot but did the best he could with such short notice. then Jon said, “Welcome to the train wreck portion of the show. I hope I remember how to sing this song.” Before going into Bike (forgetting a number of the lyrics) w/ vacuum solo at the end, then Jon did an intro of the band (introducing himself last as Henrietta), then Trey came back out and they did Loving Cup.

Set I : Reba, Runaway Jim, NICU -> Scents and Subtle Sounds, Wolfman’s Brother, Walls of the Cave -> David Bowie

Set II : A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing, Piper -> Tweezer Reprise Jam -> Gotta Jibboo > Limb By Limb, Cavern

Encore : Wading in the Velvet Sea

Notes: “Harpua” was teased toward the end of the “Piper” jam. Trey forgot all of the words to the third verse of “Cavern,” only just pulling it together in time for “deadly ice calm” line. He then eked out a quite self-referential “Purple Haze” tease before coming back in with the fourth verse. “Limb by Limb” may have contained some “Disease”-type jamming.

E: Sleeping Monkey^(5:34) > Tweezer Reprise(4:25)

Notes: *Debut concert performance, unless you count the roof outside Letterman’s show, in associated with its early single release from Undermind. **A reportedly incredible display of lightning resulted in a seventy-minute delay of the second set, which began a few minutes before 11:00, typically curfew at Deer Creek. The crowd roared at every lightning flash, which came often.

Personal Note : There WAS an incredible lightning display, I was in section D of the pavillion and it was lighting up the sky to my left…AMAZING! This show was IMO, fantastic.

Ed Sullivan Theater

Set: Scents and Subtle Sounds, Scents and Subtle Sounds, 2001, Wilson, Chalk Dust Torture, Tweezer > Tweezer Reprise.

Notes: Phish performed on top of the Ed Sullivan Theater’s second-floor marquee at West 53rd Street and Broadway. The soundcheck earlier that day included a instrumental jam similar to “Quantegy” from Trey’s solo disc “One Man’s Trash.” After Phish appeared around 6:20 PM, a funk jam was pumped through the speakers, possibly performed inside by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra. The first “SASS” was taped for the Late Show with David Letterman and aired that night. Then Phish waited as an instrumental version of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” was broadcast from the speakers, again possibly from Shaffer inside the theatre. The remainder of Phish’s performance was for the benefit of a few hundred fans assembled on the sidewalk across the street.
