Lets see… it was around 11am and my friend stopped by for the trip to Lake Placid. We were driving from Chocorua NH. It was already snowing. That winter it snowed all Dec. and we had a good 3ft on the ground by xmas… compared to this year, well its going into the upper 40s today. Another friend parted with some acid that I had gotten him that summer as a b-day present for the show… clean stuff taboot… so lets see, check list: tickets, acid… alright good to go.

The trip turned out to be much longer than expected… the snow made the drive nearly impossible in some spots in VT… its was a freakijn’ blizzard! Well we had enough of that and decided to drop early… of course immediately the party started. Now we had to find beer. After many turn offs, turn arounds, driving over mtns in the snow we made it somewhere in the vacinity of Lake Placid… but DAMN it was getting close to showtime! We had to book it. I stepped on it in the snowy blizzard, oblivious to much else but my desire to get to the show… Were booking along I get behind a bus… not just a vw bus but one of the big school busses that you always see at shows and it slowly going along. So here we are, country road, high as jupiter, 20 min till showtime, blizzard, and a big huge blue school bus in my way… I passed it amongst hoot and hollars and we are home free.

We make it to the Olympia center and now the question of where to park!!! I pulled into the nearest parking lot and plowed my car into the closest snow bank… that’ll do. Ahhh we made it! We ran into the show and missed the opener Buried alive, caught the last few chords and onto the Bag…

This was a great show too… but inparticular the mikes kicked my ass. we made it down to the floor with plenty of room to dance and threw down…

Later on we had no place to stay as all we had was acid and tickets so we spent the night, freezing in the car, high as… well, mars now.

This turned out to be a crappy thing as I found out what happens when you spent all your time in your car when the temps outside were in the teens and below. I guess our body heat and condensation caused a something or other and in the mornig our back window BLEW OUT… just shattered. This caused me to become very bummed out in my drug induced state and wanted to go home. My friend convinced me to stay for that nights show but I gave the rest of my acid away b/c I was thouroughly bummed out… yes I was quite a moody boy. Anyway that show kicked ass to and we had a cold drive home but well worth the trip… what a great weekend.

Cool story. I always love the 12/17 setlist. Antelope, Mango, Tube, Stash, Lizards, Chalkdust!!! Jesus!

^yeah and the page solo b/twn the tweezers is gold.

*Dedicated to Paul Languedoc; possibly played for a front row sign; after, Trey says, “in fact, he [Paul] likes that one so much, we’re gonna play it again!”; band plays a few seconds and stops. **“Do You Feel Like We Do” (Peter Frampton) tease (a banner was hung from the upper level requesting the song, which may have been played during the previous night’s soundcheck). Trey called Page “Bob Mayonnaise.”

i like this 2001>Sand.

Does anyone remember during the 12-28-96 show that someone threw a “Tickle Me Elmo” doll (the hot toy of the season) up on stage and Page had it on his piano for a good portion of the show?

yep!
in addition to that, i am still seeing the strobes from maze that night!

Today is my favorite day of Phishtory!!

The best concert I’ve ever seen in person, and one of the most memorable nights of my life:

Thanks to Jason Pinsky (Phish.com), ZZYZX, Phillip Zerbo, Geoff Kaiser, and "anonymous" for info.

My favorite version of 2001, and a ridiculously solid show from front to back.

12-29-98 Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

E: The Divided Sky (0:17)

*With a colorful bird (someone dressed as a black turkey-looking thing, with a red strip and a green stripe around its body) and flowers (dancers clad in red and white dresses that could flip over their heads, and two long yellow stamen/pistals streaming from each of their heads) running around in the aisles on the floor. **A capella. +Flower dancers reappeared on stage. ++With “Born Under Punches” (Talking Heads) tease.

Not to mention the latest livephish release, Providence 94, and The Real Gin…12.29 is special.

this is easily my fav show to listen to. glad i was able to make it down to msg for the 28th and 29th. i was only 17 and had to take a greyhound down to nyc with a couple friends. we werent able to sit together so i staked out a seat way in the back. ended up sitting next to some dude who just got out of jail that morning. i offered him some donut holes but he declined. that was all he said the entire 6 hour trip. long bus rides are rough but sometimes you gotta suck it up and get there any way possible.

What about 12/29/97?! New LivePhish…big time!

Not to mention one of the worlds finest Gin’s back in '95. Gin > The Real Me > Gin!

I mentioned both of those, but whatev, its coo

I also didn’t mention 12.29.96, which is a pretty legendary show.

oh…I see…nice work Hank. Yeah…the rotation jam from 12/29/96 is teh sickness.

I agree 100%

my first show was on this day in Phishtory!

12/30/03 (Tue) American Airlines Arena - Miami, FL
Set 1: Wilson > Sand > Shafty > NICU, Weigh, Cities, Strange Design, Scent of a Mule, Bathtub Gin > 2001

Set 2: Tube > L.A. Woman > Birds of a Feather > L.A. Woman, Makisupa Policeman > "Booty Ain't Nothing But a Butt" Rap* > Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)* > P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)*, Makisupa Policeman > Touch Me, Down With Disease, E: Contact, While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Comment: *with George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars, first time played

i was less than 10 rows from the stage on the floor, Mike side. I can still pinpoint the moment i felt myself and the world around me change forever as the segue from Wilson(unfinished)>Sand starting with the “can you still have FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNN” part.

I have been looking for a review of this show for AGES. I practically live in lake placid, and after seeing moe. there I was wondering if the Phish shows were any good.

I Recently read an article that lake placid tried to ban phish after their second show there. The article was like 10 years old, but…

Big Cypress!!!

Today in pHISHTORY.

^ my last Phish show…I still remember it like it was yesterday. Nothing like swamps and snakes and caiman and thousands of fans on a Reservation in damp Florida to make a great New Years! That was one of the last times I tripped as well…

That all-night set was the best…EVER.

Hmmm…I’m drawing a blank, did Phish ever play on New Years Eve?
