TOOL

Lately I have been listening to a lot of Tool again. They used to be my favorite band before I found this one band called Phish.

Tool is the only band I saw where their live show rivals Phish. Absolutely insane. I saw them in Cleveland three or four days after September 11, 2001. I have to admit, I was in a weird state of mind with all that was going around, and these guys absolutely put my mind at ease while I was there. I’ve gone sober to every Tool show, except for puffing on a joint during the show, and I am so glad I did. I can remember almost every moment.

Their albums are so great too, I’m currently listening to Undertow for the first time in a few years probably. I listened to Opiate before and decided to just keep going down the Tool ladder.

Danny Carey is quite possibly my favorite drummer from “my generation”. The stuff he does behind his almost 360degree kit is mind blowing. So much energy in his drumming.

Then the lyrics, the open ended lyrics that could mean tons of different things to each person. Dark at times, yes, but still just great writing.

Can’t wait to pop Aenima on. Seeing “H” and “Pushit” live… I really don’t know if there is anything like that for me.

Thoughts? Hate? Love?

Its so wierd that you say that cause I was the exact same. Tool was my favorite band for about 3-4 years, until I started listening to Phish. I dont listen to much hard rock anymore but I still love Tool. Lateralus is one of my favorite albums of all time. Cant wait for their new one 10000 days.

Never heard of them.

Always adding something of value, eh TLD? How about some reasons?

uh… they suck. and they’re ghey. so they’re ghey tools that suck.

idunno, they’re not that bad. i just hate their music.

Tool is just a bunch of tools. I hate them.

/\ This from the guy who thinks Chris Kattan is funny.

I didn’t say he was funny. I said he kicks ass and I want to see him in space.

i thought this thread was about some one who was being a tool…i was wrong

their videos were always rather interesting.

didnt H R Geiger do some work for them as well? album art or something? a video?

i dont know.

tool is cool…stay in school.

I have to agree with Will, Tool has one hell of a drummer. I have no issues with tool at all… I own the Aenima record and like it, it has been awhile…

Good job on the eye opening post there ANT…You have a great view on Tool… :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, Tool. Now here is a metal band with creativity and class. Not to mention one hell of a sense for melody. It is hard for a band to successfully straddle attitude, art, and still garner popular opinion. I will say that I like the earlier stuff a little better. And that I am not wild about A Perfect Circle.

But, damn, Tool is AWESOME live!

I’m sure they kick ass live, and I am interested in their videos, but the music is just too heavy for me. If I want some heavy metal, I’ll listen to old school metallica or BIGBLACKFURRYCREATUREFROMMARS!!

Their heavier songs are their worst I think. That one ‘Tick’ song from Lateralus is annoying.

I only like a few “heavy” artists, But Tool ranks right up there on the top of my list for bands that I love who are not, as you say, parent friendly. It’s so funny that this thread is on here, b/c I almost started one about tool jus tthe other day, but didn’t for whatever reason…

i think maynard has the best hard rock voice ever and I even Liked A Perfect Circle. The one time I ever saw them, they were so loud that even I couldn’t take it…andI’m no wuss when it comes to punishing my eardrums next to the speakers. He was wearing a white corset, black panties, and his head was completely shaved except for a long black ponytail and a white mask he had on… I was creeped out, but the show was awesome.

I still listen to Passenger with Maynard and the Deftones occasionally… my verdict is that they’re good…but not something to listen to all the time.

I keep forgetting to post about Tool. I like Tool fine. I don’t listen to them much, but I like them. I dunno, they’re the sort of band you really have to listen to an entire album at a time, and their albums are damned long.

I just saw the deftones last week. they look old, but they were still pretty tight.

I have not listened to much Tool (I believe only Aenima and Lateralus?), but every single song I’ve heard has been absolutely amazing musically. Yeah it’s a bit dark, but that doesn’t bother me, I just don’t listen to much heavy stuff (maybe that’s why I like it so much now when a jamband gets ainto a darker jam). I wish I got into them in high school when i gave an occassional listen to korn and likp biskit and all that shit (I still maintain you can’t help but get a little pumped up to Korn’s Blind).

Thanks for bringing it up though WillB, I downloaded a show or two (and a dvd) a while ago in an effort to get more into them but haven’t listened to them in ages (and never even took the time to watch the vid).

Anybody got any idea when this year the new record is due out?

^ I think I heard June 2. New Pearl Jam that day too!

Tool is absolutely amazing. Polyrhythmic glory, metric modulation, quiet sensitive melody, heavy rocking riffs, FANTASTIC vocals… Definately a well rounded band. I saw them in 98 and I can’t wait to see them again.

Choices always were a problem for you…

I too was a huge Tool fan at one point in my life. I’ve never seen them but still want to. I listen once in a while still and get taken aback. Aenima is my favorite of their albums.

“I’ve got some bad advice for you little buddy, before you point your finger you should know that I’m the man.”
