vote!
“Drowned.”
No questions asked.
neil…can i ask you a question?
I said don’t ask no stupid questions, and I wont send you away
If you want to talk Phishin, well I guess that’ll be OK
who is steve dave?
I am going to say a man with two first names. So he shall never be trusted.
I voted Hey Pocky Way!
actually I voted Drowned. I was just listening to Hey Pocky Way and wanted to fluff it.
I’ve never actually been a Frank Zappa fan, but even if I was I’d still probably vote “Drowned.”
Some of my favorite Phish jams ever have come out of “Drowned.”
so who in the hell is steve dave!?
He appeared in the Kevin Smith movies.
In Mallrats, he was the guy that wouldn’t let Brodie into the comic book store. Then “Fanboy” behind him yelled “Tell 'em, Steve Dave!”
Raleigh 98!
.
true
I was there B., well kind of… We got stuck in traffic coming from Atlanta (08-06-98) and missed the first three songs (Water in the Sky, Drowned, and Frankie Says). I remember this because I taped the show and my original audio starts halfway through Stash. It is a great Drowned though. I just listened to it again after you said that. I remember being straight up frizzled during the Forbin>Mockingbird. You catch that one?
Still Peaches has always been one of my favorite Phish covers. I’ll vote for Peaches all the way to the finals!
190 shows = No Forbin->Bird. Go figure?
No one on here loves Zappa more than I do, and I don’t even own Quadrophenia on c.d., but Drowned can jam like nobody’s business and can be played tighter than I imagine the Who could ever play it. Phish are absolutely amazing musicians, but there is no way they can play Peaches as tight as Zappa and his henchmen could play it, and that left them with no room to experiment with it either. To recap, Drowned = tightness with great jamming, Peaches = below par with no experimentation…pretty much a no-brainer for me.
Agreed – 'tis a brick in the foundation of Phish composition. Drowned could jam, yes - but jam is not the foremost quality I look for in a great cover tune.
In terms of strictly Phish-related cover performances, I definitely take into account the jam factor.
Don’t get me wrong…I love a nice, tight 4-minute “Roses are Free.” But I’d rather hear a slightly-sloppy composed section of “Drowned” if it means a nice 12-minute jam.
How peaches won this is beyond comprehension to me.
Whatevs…
I don’t really know how it happened, either.
At least it was close.
