Trey Bites Back

In the Janes Addiction movie “Gift” Perry Farrell takes a hit from a Birkenstock. He says to the crowd " it’s not cool to throw stuff at me and the person who threw this Birkenstock at me doesn’t even have any fashion sense!"

Hmm I felt different. I liked the second more than the first.

no… does anyone have a recording of this?

poor Trey…

Probably should just go ahead and eat the peanut butter like iggy pop

And to his defense about the frustration of throwing things during a show, my first phish show 9/24/00 at the Allstate arena, the band left the stage after 36 minutes because they were getting pelted with glow sticks.

For a first show and first phish experience, I was surprised, but can understand the frustration when he is trying to belt our solo gems such as “Shine”

Everyone has their limits.

I’m so confused. I assume you mean 09/23? And where is the “solo gems such as ‘Shine’”? Was it the Halleys>Fee>Stash that grinded your gears?

And plus, I like Shine! :sunglasses:

36 minute set? On 9-24? Shine?

What’s for dinner mom?

Man this was a while ago. I’ll have to see if I can dig it up. I wouldn’t imagine its on etree any more.

Morons. I really don’t know what to say. It’s just sad that people attend shows who want to hit band members with things.

I agree. He gets all this crap about his solo albums and how he was “taking over the band” and all that crap. Spare us. Trey’s fantastic is almost everything he does.

There are certain words that will provide the proper EMPHASIS to what you’re saying and a nicely placed f-bomb will do just that. Sometimes people use swear words because it gets people’s attention. Trey saying it got your attention and I’m sure it got that crowd’s attention. And who cares about swear words anyway?..there’s thousands of words that mean the exact same thing as every swear word yet it’s those seven or so words that are focused on. It doesn’t make sense and it will never make sense. Haven’t we grown enough as a society to stop worrying about this petty crap? Whatever happened to sticks and stones? That doesn’t apply once you’re an adult?

As for glowsticks, I wonder how many people who hit the band with glowstuff mean to do it. I remember when we were in a glowstick war in 99, a friend got hit by one and then decided to join in and just flung it. Without realizing his own strength, the thing clanged off of Page’s piano. He didn’t mean to hit the stage at all and I suggested that he maybe throw them behind himself next time which is what I always would do. I think lots of drunk/high folks just try to have fun with the glowstick wars and just get overzealous. But if people do it on purpose, then they should be shot.

Yeah…considering what some other artists do (Axl Rose, David Lee Roth, etc.) when shit gets trown at them, I consider Treys speech awfully mild…and where the hell is security?? Busting some kid smoking a joint…

Shit, I’d throw some crap at Trey just to watch him whine like a bitch onstage like that.

…what?? :shifty:

Or jump in the crowd and attack!

Trey’s awesome, those guys were douche bags.

Yeah, Trey needs to raise his street cred.

Another downside to things ending up on stage is when beachballs totally ruin the composition of the stage. Whenever a ball ends up on stage I have trouble not shifting my gaze to it, makes it a bit harder to appreciate CK5’s wondrous work. Sorta just the unfortunate side of bouncing beachballs around, one or two are unavoidably going to end up on the stage.

I love it when artists give shit to the audience.
I wish more would do it,…it works. And it makes the people around the douche stop them.

Jeff Tweedy is great at talking shit to a crowd that won’t shut up or throws things.
