Push on Til the Day

Well, just got back from Albany and had a GREAT TIME!! I know I shouldn’t post this now, and that I should wait until the “post-show buzz” wears off, but I’m going to do it anyway. Oh, and I was completely sober during this show, I’m speaking of the high the music gives you.

I thought the show tonight was great, some of the highlights were the Peaches (!!), the Landlady, and Plasma.

The percussion parade in was fun, even though I was nowhere near it (second to last section from the back in the balcony) Trey was playing the cowbell and everyone around was screaming “MORE COWBELL!!!”, Greg would have been right at home. Then it was straight into Caymen Review, I was pretty excited to hear this one, I’m not sure if he’s been playing it on these recent shows, so that was nice. Then we moved into PEACHES EN RENGALIA!!! Loved this version with the horns, not sure if it was better than a Phish version, but it was fun either way. Shine was next and the intro was real nice with the horns, I liked it a lot better with the horns. When he broke into the intro chords, I let out a nice scream to let all the haters know I was down, hahahaha. Simple Twist Up was next, I was extremely excited to hear this one. I absolutely LOVE the intro with horns, that was the main reason I wanted to hear it, just get’s me movin’. What’s Done was next, like this tune, nothing too special went down that I can remember, seemed standard, like it none the less though. Drifting, Wherever You Find It, Spin were next, standard as well (what I can remember…) except Wherever You Find It. That one had a raging outro that was nice. Then, THE LANDLADY! Liked this horn version as well, once again, not sure if I liked it better than the Phish version or not, but it was solid and fun. It seemed to lack a little in the dancing part. Or do they only do that during PYITE? Not sure, but when I heard the riff, I was expecting them to bust it out, but am still kind of glad they didn’t, it’s a Phish thing. I’d also like to add here that Trey was ALL OVER THE PLACE! Really seemed to be having a blast, doing those corky little moves he does, making faces, waving to people, dancing around, jumping around, side to side, back and forth, really seemed too be enjoying himself. Wether it was drugs or not…I don’t know. But, he really seemed healthy fromt he distance I was at. Which obvisouly isn’t true because he was just arrested…but whatever, back to the show… Tuesday, Coma aAs Melody, to close the set.

Second set opener, at the time, couldn’t put my finger on the name of it, I knew I had heard it, but not in a while. I see now that it was Curlew’s Call. That’s another that I don’t think has been done in a while…correct me if I’m wrong. THEN, Plasma. This version fucking raged, by the end of it, I was sweating, desperately in need of water. Kick ass version, can’t wait to hear this one again. After that came to a close, Dragonfly. I wasn’t too pumped when I heard that weird off key sounding intro because I had never really dug that tune on cd. But when that intro ended and they went into the main chords, it got me up off my ass in a hurry. I twas real short, which made it better. Not in the fact that it was bad, I’m jsut glad he didn’t jam that one out, it was nice kept short. Then Love is Freedom, Heavy Things (short version as well) and then Gotta Jibboo. This was a real cool version, it got real spacey for a while and during most of the jam CK5 hit the lights on the place. It was pitch black and it kicked ass. There were a few glowsticks going, but not that many to warrant him to hit the lights, so not really sure why he did it, but it was pretty cool. At one point someone in the crowd busted out a flashlight and was going crazy with it, The CK5 turned just the lights on the back of the stage wall on, kind of like back lighting, and still kept everything off, it was pretty cool. Then, a Case of Ice and Snow (bathroom break), nice outro on that one, and Last Tube.

Encore was Push On and this one raged as well, real solid version that had me moving ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Overall, kick ass night, Trey looked good, real good, and sounded good taboot.\

Thanks for the good times Trey, you’ve still got it!

I’m sorry, I just feel like being negative nancy right now. Maybe I’m jealous, maybe I’m bitter, probably both.

Glad you had a good time.

and yes, the horns part in Simple Twist Up is fucking sick.

I’m not sure why I wrote that, I was just excited to hear them.

The climax highlights were Plasma, Spin and Push On. The highlights of the fun tuens were Landlady and Peaches. They were just nice to hear with the horns. Short and Sweet and not jammed.

Does that clear it up a bit…?

trey feeling the music

once again, trey getting into it.

so now for a breif review. I really like these percussion parade’s, very cool, especially with the horns section, so it had a nice funk groove to it too. I dont remember too much for specific songs and jams quality but i’ll be as specific as i can. Peaches with horns was really cool. Shine had a nice horns intro. I never heard any live trey with 70 volt parade, but some of the songs off of shine were really played out live and had some great moments, aka spin and wherever you find it. Horns on landlady made for a very spicy tune, really tight and fun. like buster said, the plasma was really great musically. And there were soe really great moments in the gotta jiboo, they had a real nice funk groove at one point, and some switching solos between drums, keys and bass. Some AWSOME clavicord grooves from the keys player. Case of ice and snow was really powerful for me for some reason. Its a very quiet song to start out and slowly builds into something pretty intense with a great feeling behind it. Last Tube sounded pretty great, and then that was it.

Trey gave a nice little speech at the end. well not really speech. but he bantered the rest of the band and then was like this really was great playing here, you’ve all been a great audience, and it really feels good to be here with this warmth from you guys. Or he said osmething along those lines, and he said it with his hands clasped.

I’m mentioning this because im pretty sure that this was the theater where there was the anti-trey and fuck tela fuck gamehendge graffiti on the doors back in march. Well people really seemed to enjoy the show tonight, and there were no anti-trey vibes tonight at all that i got.

One last thing is i really havnt emphasized how great the horns were. It was so great to hear trey with a backing brass section again and some backing vocals that were pretty sound as well. So im very happy that he’s brought them back and combined them with a few from 70 volt, mainly tony hall, who i think is really a pretty tight bass player, he’s got his act together.

So yea, push on til the day encore, wouldve liked to hear more songs seeing that there was a triple encore the previous night, but this rendition was soooo tight and together, and really just sounded phenomenal. So in the end im thankful they ended on this, because it was such a high note to end on.

really great show. I was blown away, as my expectations were not too high, because he really pulled together a fun and musically sound concert. Bravo.

i’ll have a yellow hat on if anybody is going reads this

and a wiffelmania t shirt
