I didn’t find an other threads that had commented on this but Trey canceled from the festival. So hopes of hearing angry Trey guitar shred are dashed. I wasn’t going anyway but it still sucks.
I wasnt going either, but still feel a little letdown. I wouldve really been interested in hearing a recording of this show. To kinda hear where he’s at.
I am Feelin bad for all of you going to 10klf that were holding out hope Trey would be able to make it out.
What are you going to do? We just got to rage on and have a great time without him.

kinda meh, kinda disappointed just because its gonna be a long while before I see Crimson Dago on stage, also kinda glad Trey has priorities or is actually obeying the law.
I’m pretty sure it’s the obeying the law part.
I’m guessing he had to ask a judge’s permission to even go, and maybe the judge said no.
Or maybe one of the stipulations of his plea agreement was to not be in any position where drugs/alcohol/partying is involved.
Who knows.

This is one of those times when you wanna get excited about Phish-related news/activity … but uh … I get the feeling we won’t be hearing much else about this one. Don’t know why.
I just know that I feel like: “Yes! Trey’s staying home, and there’s some reason, and it could be good! I have no idea though! Woo!”

i’m in several raffles for tickets to 10KLF and this is a HUGE letdown. i hate SCI and if i win any of these raffles, i may sell the tickets because i really really wanted to see this trey show.
There is more at 10k Lakes than SCI and Trey.
^ exactly. So much more. Bobby, moe., Umph, Zappa plays Zappa, Derek, Mule, Bisco, Particle…Trey’s missing one hell of a party.
sometimes it seems, everybody likes ALL the bands. I cannot stand the 10k lineup, it looks like DEAD/PHISH wannabe festy, sure there’s chicks and dope but Where’s the genius that makes the whole thing worthwhile?, I mean certaintly MOE, ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA, BISCO AND PARTICLE ARE NO GENIUSES BY ANY STRETCH. Mule is respectable but not genius, same with Moe. Where is the band that is BREAKING NEW GROUND WITHOUT SOUNDING LIKE THEIR HERO’S? All these bands sound to much like either PHISH OR DEAD, seriously. Phish sounds nothing like DEAD, but, somehow paid homage at the same time and that’s why they were the heir apparent. No one else is like that right now, although Widespread is looking like the front runner, LOADS OF SONGS, JIMMY HERRING ON GUITAR IS NO SLOUCH, and they don’t sound like the dead or Phish.
How do you think that Zappa Plays Zappa sounds anything like the Dead or Phish? If they do it’s because Phish stole so much from Zappa…but I don’t see your point. I agree none of the bands are as good as Phish or the Dead, but that doesn’t mean they’re not good. Why do a band have to be geniuses for people to like them? If all you like is Phish, Dead and Panic, you have a very narrow mind when it comes to music. I don’t see how Bisco, Particle or any of these bands want to sound anything like Phish or the Dead. Maybe you just don’t have a very trained ear yet…it’s no big deal, but maybe if you listen to a wider variety of music you will be able to discern the difference between one band or another.
You proabably listen to classical music and say, “why do they all have to sound like Beethoven rip offs?”, or jazz music and say “why do they all have to sound like Miles rip offs?”. You actually have to know a little about those kinds of music to decipher the difference between Beethoven and Schubert or Coltrane and Miles, but you would rather just lump them together as just one “type” of music. The fact is all these bands that you mentioned play Rock music and that is about all they have in common. If you don’t like Rock music that’s fine, but just because you only listen to the Dead and Phish doesn’t mean that they are the only bands that play good rock music. And you only named the bands at 10KLF that play rock music too. What about Blueground Undergrass or New Riders or any of the many bands there that don’t play rock music?
Just listen to more music, it doesn’t have to be any of the bands playing at 10KLF, but listen to more music in general and you’ll develop an actual pallet, and then you can come back and say what music sounds like what music, because if you think that the Disco Biscuits sound ANYTHING like the grateful dead, you really need to get your head checked.
That Bob Weir guy totally stole his sound (and some songs I think too!) from The Grateful Dead.
And Zappa Plays Zappa? Come on! Just go out and see Frank Zappa… I am sure he is coming to a town near you.
Out of the “main core” of bands for 10kLakes, I think moe. is the “Phishiest”. Cheesy lyrics, not great vocals, and great jams. Yeah, that sounds like Phish to me. And yet you say they are “respectable”.
I have no intention of going to 10kLakes, but I really like the lineup. If Trey not showing up ruined it for you… then I guess we just have different tastes. I am willing to bet (my opinion, not up for debate) that the Trey show would have been a HUGE let down. A one-off show after months and months of courts and rehab? Doesn’t exactly sound like Trey these days could produce an “epic” show… especially with the band he totes around now. I’ve seen two of these 70VP/“Trey Anastasio” shows, and left both feeling they were nothing amazing.
Maybe I was just unlucky…
Trey’s show at cornell was pretty good last winter but yeah I have a feeling Trey would have been quite strained with the one random show at the festival. It still would have been interesting but now we’ll never know.
i guess if you’re gonna do something, you gotta do it right and go full out.
this way, he’ll be all cleaned up and healthy and free for the Phish reunion next summer.
