This…I like this.
“you were just playing a lot of notes”
Sounds very Zappaesque ![]()
“Trey Anastasio is expected to tour with his band this fall”"
That…I like that.
Oh right on, never saw this…bring TAB back to the Tabby Trey!! jesus I haven’t been there in a couple years, fucking miss that place, TAB in 2010 was the last time I believe…damn
Like the sound of that. I’ll probably drive anywhere in the midwest for a TAB show this fall. Hopefully Chicago, because Trey Anastasio is expected to skip Michigan with his band this fall. But where did you read that quote?
Decent enough song, nothing to go crazy over. I really wish I didn’t even have the thought of Zappa-esque in my head when I started it, because I can see in the beginning an element similar to Peaches en Regalia… but just not as cohesive. It is like Trey had a lot of thoughts for cool parts, and just jammed them together in 5 second chunks (ahem, Umphreys
).
If this is the most approachable song on the album… yikes.
Pretty much my thoughts. It’s not bad. Has a weird TTE flow to it.
Yikes meaning “Yes!”? I hope there’s lots of tunes with music vs the poppy song stuff. They both have their place though, and I like them both, but It would be great to hear Trey doing more work on the music-end of things vs. the fun rock/pop stuff. He does, however, remain a powerhouse of writing new things.
It did have some TTE type harmonies in it, but I really loved the flow of the second half. It sounded like a composition based on a phish jam where they flow and change keys and all that.
I just listened for the first time. I like it a lot.
That was not altogether unpleasant, that is to say that it was palatable. I took a sip. During the attack phase, I immediately noticed similarities to Zappa, St Alphonso’s Pancake Breakfast. Moving on to the mid-palate you can taste the true flavor of the song, and that is that it is a Trey Anastasio song if ever there was one, there are definite hints of “Time Turns Electic” and some mild “Air Said to me” residue. And the finish, is medium bodied, and very Byrne/Eno-esque.
Scabbard? Pirate related? I’m all for pirates.
