The longer versions were nice but the earlier stuff is just as tasty - but we are all missing that, I predicted a Ghost at Cincy (which I got), but missed on the GTBT by a night and that Tube by a night… Damn! ![]()
man, please listen to the dayton 12/7/97 version. mike lays down such sick bass, esp. around 1:15-2:35
09 Tubes beat 2010 all day in my mind. Is it just me or was Page just complete ripping it to shreads in summer 09?
Yeah, I wish they’d chill and give this song more due. I feel like in this era, they’ve just decided that certain songs will be played a certain way, much like the Dead decided certain songs were “first set” or “second set” only songs (although we’re not quite there yet, thank God).
Tube is one of my favorites for sure, and I do agree with '09 being superior to '10 (check out Asheville '09). I’d say this tune got it’s “jam stamp” in '98, but had really good non-funk moments before that.
^ Star Lake '09 also was totally Tube-ular!
Yes, that was a great “Welcome back” for me after 6 years.
This is one of the most fun Phish tunes to play on the drums.
Tube might be my favorite Phish song, lyrically speaking. I still can’t believe it’s a Fishman tune.
There’s a mummy in the clavinet!
^
I wish I could come up with a joke for “are there no more arrows left?” but I don’t think Page plays anything that begins with an A.
Anyway. 6/24/04 Tube is pretty jammed out and funky. Mike just carpet bombs the shit out of this thing. Page and Trey really hook up towards the end. Great version.
Also worth mentioning is 12/30/2003. There’s a sick Cactus breakdown in the beginning of the jam. They’re all ON for this one. Check it out. (the disease from that show is beautiful too)
Have you heard the 2/22/03 Tube? It’s pretty neat.
I’m ready for a nice 3.0 Tube, something longer that 5 minutes ![]()
That’s what she said?
Uhhhhhhmmm Asheville and Star Lake 09 maybe? Only about 6-7 mins but still more than 5 ![]()
yup, was there, not up to snuff though.
I want me an actual jam in my Tube!
![]()
Yea i know. Was at Asheville not Star Lake. While they are both great versions of the song, this monster needs to be jammed out. I was just being a smartass up there. ![]()
But yeah they could jam the hell out of this and quite a few others, but for some reason choose not to. It just seems like 3.0 Trey is very worried about stepping on the band members toes, and i think that leads to shorter jams. Probably doesn’t make sense but thats the best i could explain.
gotcha
PAGE’S HOUSE!!!
I find myself in total agreement with Adam on this one, and that idea makes me happy. Camden was such a great, to-the-point version of the song, just funky rock and roll.
[REPRINTED WITH EDITS FROM SOME OTHER DRIVEL I WROTE. AND YES I MAY HAVE PLACED SOME WORDS IN ADAM’S MOUTH FOR CLARITY ON THIS POST, BUT I HAVE IT ON GOOD AUTHORITY THAT HE DOESN"T MIND]
Don’t think 7/3/99 has been mentioned- Wowza! ![]()
was DC '04 the end of the ragin Tubes? Do any really stand out in 3.0? I really dig Blossom '11 though
