Why not just set your login for Forever? Thats what I do and never had a problem.
Although I did have your problem number one happen to me about a week ago.
When you are not logged in everything is marked as read.

Well I’ve set mine on forever, or hakuna matata, about 50 times now. It never keeps me logged in.
I watched Ice Age (the first one) this weekend on FX and was laughing my ass off. The little sloth dude is hilarious. The Disney movies CAN be great for kids and teh adults!

Is your problem because you click back instead of clicking on the board name at the top? If I read threads and hit ‘back’ instead of just clicking on the board name, it says I didn’t read the thread. I usually just go board by board, read threads, and click “mark all as read” anyway.
fuck, i dont even use that particular funtion (read/not read). i just read the title of the thread and if it piques my interest within 1.5 seconds, i’ll post.
