Type Your Phish Thoughts

Great pic’s Dan!

AWESOME, thanks for sharing!!! Made me feel a little better about missing these shows!

I was listening to CO 88 Wilson and kinda thinking about when the first time the crowd enthusiastically shouted Wil-son at the beginning…anybody know?

It started during late Fall 94…the first full-fledged ‘wilson chant’ has been credited to 12/30/94 MSG show (the one on ALO).

WILSON!!!

So I’ll be seeing Phish in 2 day…

I don’t think it has really sunk in yet.

2 months here, and yes, it has sunk in…

Have a good time Brian!

Sounds like the sound engineers really have this tour down as compared to others. I’ve listened to some highlights of the SBD’s from the shows this tour and they are head and shoulders above anything I heard from '09 and '10, as far as mixing is concerned. The other thing that was particularly exiting for me is vocal effects! There is a slight echo on the vocals in Bowie on the record, and I’ve had a few experiences at shows and listening on tape where I have sworn I’ve heard the echo during a live performance. I never knew for sure if I was mentally creating the effect in my own mind  , or if it was some tricky background vocals, but if you listen to Michigan’s Bowie from LivePhish you can definitely tell there is some delay on them, which I think is awesome. And of course, Page’s vocals in No Quarter sounded amazing with the tremolo effect. Did anyone see what was going on here? Was he singing through a vocoder or something, or using his regular mic? Was this effect applied at the soundboard? Anyway, seriously next level shit and I’m already more exited about this tour than anything since the return!

I wonder how many people actually buy individual tracks from livephish.com

I think last night while munching on hummus and pita chips and watching the first set from last night roll into Phish.net was the first time I really excited about being on the couch and not in the venue. Of course I would RATHER be at the show, but I love the elusive joy and inner enthusiasm that you feel inside while struggling to get Hoodstream or some other PT recommended site to clear the static just to catch that small clear ring of the opener. Especially alone.

I can’t believe that Summer Tour is finally underway and all the exciting things that come with it: Anticipation, procrastination, oil changes, google mapping, e-mailing, calling, excitement, packing, etc . . .

Hearing those first few licks of Tweezer the day after my birthday was clearly the best present I could have ever gotten. The playing is so good right now and even from my couch things just sound right. That everything on earth is how it should be.

Can’t wait to see some of you all this week and weekend, and I honestly can’t wait to head back to the South next week to take one of my younger buddies to her very first Phish show in Alpharetta on the 14th as well as catch a few shows with one of my old tour buddies and closest friends. I haven’t seen him in 3 years.

This is turning out to be one helluva summer so far, and I won’t be spending too many more nights on Couch Tour, but it’s really the little things in life that make you smile

Live, I’ve seen and heard Trey sing, “David Bowie, Bowie!” and then smile at the echo he created.

Last Friday and Saturday night made me feel like I was 14 or 15 again at some of my first Phish shows.

I was always under the assumption that there was an echo effect added at the board for this. But after watching the Utica DVD you can see Trey repeat in into the mic as he slowly backs away. They seemed to do away with it in the late '90s and for most of 2.0; but have now brought it back. In the DVD you can also see Trey glance over at Page and give a wry smile after doing it almost as if to say “Aww yeah, you know you heard it”

i don’t know what to say about Phish right at the moment…i’m very, very excited. the Blossom Possum is some of the coolest, mind-meltingest stuff i’ve heard from them in ages. i knew they’d get there eventually (as far as REALLY playing like PHISH again…it’s been a very fun ride to the top of this hill, now it’s time for this rollercoaster to take off in earnest!), and i couldn’t be happier to say it seems they have arrived and are here once again to kick ass and take names

Haha yes I’ve seen him smile over at Page too. On the Alpine DVD, right when they launch into David Bowie proper Trey looks over to Fish and gives him a fist pump as if to say “Hey we all did it together!”

Others Phish thoughts: As I’m still in the single digits of shows seen (7), with every show my appreciation for this band grows in different directions. At Pine Knob I really understood why people would tape shows. I felt like I was in the head of the first taper. Yes, the music is generally great to listen to, but when that monster DWD was growing in that two chord major jam, just before it melted into A Love Supreme, I realized that I would want to hear this again and again. If I could never hear that DWD again that would suck!!

I think Saturday nite was the best playing I’ve had the pleasure of seeing from Trey in all my 88shows. I fucking love that man.

What can I say? I just got home from a fantastic weekend, in which I spent with friends, family and Phish. I am very overwhelmed right now with joy and fulfillment. I couldn’t have asked for a better time. The music is the best it has been in 11-12 years-maybe ever (technically-not vocally). Highlights for me from Pine Knob was of course the 2001>Cavern–HOT! Oh…and that 24 minute DWD. Blossom front to back was my favorite show of the run. Trey was an absolute madman. Great venue. Can’t wait for Superball.

I saw The Phish and it was gooood!

In the back of my head, I was almost waiting for that train wreck Trey moment, and it never really came. A few flubs, but major moments like Lizards was nailed.

I hope they never go back it Riverbend.

That place sucks on so many levels.

Can’t wait to see this band again.
