OMGLMFAO!!! AMEN!!!
WE will see what happens this week, they are playing, and playing well for the most part, so that means more to me then when/what tune the play, I guess… ![]()
^^ Meh. I like Alaska. Probably my favorite Phish 3.0 song overall. It would be Sugar Shack, but they haven’t really been able to pull that one off live yet. The last couple Alaska’s I’ve seen have been very high energy affairs. Definitely not taking any steam out of either set.
i agree. i like alaska. though after seeing trey band play it with horns, i find it necessary for the song.
alaska blows worse than this one girl i know…and she sucked at blowing bigtime. terrible song.
I sort of dig the Americana-ness of Alaska. I think I like hearing it at home, or in the car over seeing it live though. In a strange twist, I think it may make for a good song to be covered by another band.
i apologize for my ludeness, i dont even know wher that came from, been a long nite and im suddenly ultra passionate about phish again lately. id erase my post if my cellphone let me…alska is pretty lame tho, ill stand by that. i thought they wer playing it at blossom so i darted to the bathroom but it ended up being ocelot, which i actually like. i hadnt listened to phish all spring…haha
Anyone notice the sets are longer so far this tour? Like about 80-90 min. sets as opposed to 60-75 min
Think they’re already trying to make up for the fact that there’s no fall tour, Halloween etc. w/ more tunes/longer sets?
Trey’s really playing well overall I think.
Well, I’m ready. Got my shit together, car is fueled, all I need to do is let out the clutch and ride. Oh, and I gotta go pick up this girl that’s riding down there with me last-minute. Cool chick though, so it will be nice to have some company on the ride, even if it is semi-awkward for a minute (since I barely know her). Whatever, I’d rather have her riding along than some hairy wook. ![]()
ATLANTA HERE WE COME!
^^All good, those were “Your Phish Thoughts”, man. And I appreciate the way you put things.
We hung with your friend on Sunday. Fun stuff. Great crew.
^“Trey’s really playing well overall I think.”
Brother, they’re ALL playing very well. Impressed with everyone’s contributions this weekend! ![]()
Hey Oh!
Yeeeeeeaaaaaaah, Edward!

Make sure you keep those eyes on the road.
People have been complaining about repeats since the early 90’s. News flash, it’s not gonna get any different. they work on tunes before tour, they like the way they sound and feel, so they play them a lot. Asking them to not repeat tunes over and over on a tour is just an unrealistic expectation to me. Yes I was a tiny bit frustrated that I saw Split Open and Melt at my first 4 or 5 shows, but fuck it…it’s Phish, and they rock. I also still have a chaffed ass about still after 16 years never catching a Forbin’s>Mockingbird, but I don’t pitch a fit when I see my 35th DWD. I just never will understand why people insist on seeing the same band numerous times and then get bent out of shape because they see them play the same songs repeatedly. We’re lucky that they have so many great fucking tunes to choose from as it is.
I’m excited for the stream tonight.
^Fairly well stated there Doug… ![]()
^^ Dude, I was not pitching a fit. I pretty much said what you said, “Yes I was a tiny bit frustrated that I saw Split Open and Melt at my first 4 or 5 shows, but fuck it…it’s Phish, and they rock.” compare to “When I am at a show I’m thinking I don’t care what they play because I’d probably be at home listening to Phish anyway”.
There are people at shows who have never heard Mike’s Groove, Bowie, Hood, Antelope. When Trey started Mike’s at Pine Knob I was like meh I don’t think this will go anywhere but hey it’s in front of me now. I don’t have to experience it on headphones!
But anyway, do you guys remember what it was like the first time you heard Antelope? I don’t. When they played it at Blossom I was wondering what it’s like for people who have never heard such an insane jam before.
^I wasn’t actually venting about you or anybody on this board to be honest. Everybody here seems pretty reasonable about their complaints but I hear it all the time at shows…and it bothers me.
My whole first show I was unfamiliar most songs. I remember some song about a bathtub that everyone cheered at, but besides that it was all one awesome blur of music. I like that fact that my first show I didn’t know shit about the band. It’s almost is better that I didn’t appreciate individual songs but just the whole experience.
Oh and Slave is rocking my socks right now.
People criticize Phish and will continue to do so as they please, the key is to not let other people’s opinions influence your own.
SUMMER 2011 RULZ!
Damn… a lot of thoughts. Which have triggered a lot more thoughts. Some of which are mine. Many of which I cannot express… however, I will throw a few of them on the page in a sort of stream of conscience manner and see if they make any sense…
I like Alaska. It’s kind of Deady or something and, yes, Americana-ish and I’m cool with that. It’s not very “phishy” so I can see how that could turn some people off like the hanksters. As far as repeats go, I think Doug is right that it has always been this way. I saw an unbelievable amount of Mazes when I first started going to shows in 97. And there are songs people don’t even mention that get played a lot. I believe Lovin’ Cup may be one of my most seen songs. Anyways… hmmm… basically I don’t think it’s repeats that’s the problem. I think, as I have been saying for a long time now, the band-fan connection is just completely outta whack. I believe that’s why I have enjoyed the streams more than the live shows lately. I don’t have to witness what seems like a little bit of weirdness that’s going on between the dudes on stage and the people in the house.
I think that’s the source of the whole problem. The band wants to impress. They’ve got some personal, artistic or business desires that are slightly different than they were in the past. At the same time, the fans are kind of rude. They kind of don’t listen all the time and spend shows defending space or taking facebook photos or just talking or staring off into space-- all of which you can actually see happening at the rail in some of the livephish vids. So, you’ve got this band that’s all cleaned up and wants to sell tickets and make their new management company happy and also wants to play good music that makes them feel good and they’re pouring their hearts out onstage and they aren’t necessarily sure if it’s clicking because the vibe from the crowd is weird and they know that everyone’s gonna be listening right after the show ends and taking to the message boards to bitch that they didn’t get the song they want or whatever. And basically, trey especially, seems completely fucked up by it. Thus, TreyDD. Jam a million songs into a set. Or whatever.
So… yeah? Was any of that coherent? I don’t even have a second to go back and read it so here somes the submit buttton… ![]()
The vibe of the crowd is weird partly because they’re dropping Horse > Silent and Wading in the same 2nd set. (re: MPP1).
The same could be said of Alaska and BDTNL at MPP2. Though I think they did recover some of the energy with Loving Cup and that encore which was nice.
I get what you’re saying though. I saw some pretty disinterested folks over the weekend. Though, at Pine Knob and Blossom the entire place was locked on the stage. What do you know? Those are two of the best shows of the tour.
