We had a party with the web-cast last night 9 or 10 of us. It started raining in Traverse City as it was raining in Georgia. I just put the Lazy-Boy in recline. Then I yelled at Josh to “get out of my recliner space!” fucker was all elbows and spinning at the rail. I don’t know how he always gets up front…in the living room.
I think I’m with bigB on this one - the band is very stale right now. Something is up in Phish land.
Other than repeats in the setlists, what other reasons are there for considering stale Phish?
No songs go past 12 minutes unless is Sky and Fluffhead. For like 5 shows or something. Kinda stale.
If by stale you mean really tight and Trey is shredding his ass off and they’re having a blast, yeah man. Stale!
Sorry, I don’t get it. I mean, everyone can have opinions, I just can’t see where this one is coming from lately. I was thinking that LAST summer, when Trey lived on that whammy pedal for 95% of the soloing and the flubs were still borderline scary. But they’re so much more well-oiled right now.
They played Birdwatcher, Mound, Kung … ?? If these setlists are stale you might be unknowingly joining the club of fans whose listening pace has finally surpassed Phish’s writing pace.
Different things for different folks I guess. To me a four song set comprised of 85% jam is stale. We KNOW they can make up funky shit spontaneously. When it goes on like that for hours I feel ripped off actually.
I don’t think people are asking for four song sets. I just think that Blossom for example, which had ten songs in the second set, was innovative in Possum and Hood, had a killer jam in Sally, AND shredded in Zero. It had it all. But recently its just been some shredding, some back to back Gin’s or Mike’s in shows, a 11 minute Tweezer.
At the same time, lots and lots of people are enjoying these killer tight shows. It is just getting stale for others.
Have you listened to that birdwatcher/kung?
I just did. ![]()
I mean it was cool & funny,…but sounded like crap. Messed up the lyrics & notes.
I’ve seen some good Kung’s,…and that was not a Kung in the true sense.
Just seemed pretty random…not to mention the storm that that crowd sat through,…to only get that?

I don’t know,…I would have felt a little let down after that show last night.
Fair enough, I didn’t hear that second show. Can’t see how you can argue with night 1. Um, except that I left Eric’s after Maze and went to Taco Bell.
Tight
Well oiled
Precise
Having fun on stage
Fuck that shit cuz most fans who shell out the real dough to make this machine go ain’t gonna tolerate this for long. I am in love with this band and feel like they are treating me and the other lovers poorly so that we will break up with them and look like the bad guy. The reality is they are pushing me away passively and we as fans/lovers are doing this relationship no good if we continue to let them abuse us.
What are you talking about man. I can’t imagine what you actually expect.

Please see 2004-2008. Geez, you guys r hard to please. Stay away from my band please.
Ewwww. I’m not phish’s lover. That’s gross.

Yeah…I like Phish.
They dropped the hottest shit at the front of the tour, and now everyone is fiendin’ for the good shit. You can’t just unleash that shit on people and not expect it to have repercussions.

Ha, I mean my own actual band, not phish.
Defend them to the death if you must. I know they(Trey) can do better and he aut to. We deserve better and…
Damn I had a really good point to get to but Trey came in and stopped it with-> Free!! ![]()
I’m floating in the…
They need to start playing bars again.
Night 1 was HEAT. Night 2 notsomuch, that being said my Phish party for night 2 stream raged regardless. So how is that stale?
I’ve been thinkin about this stuff a bit. … I think maybe we all want Phish to be exactly as awesome, and in the same ways, as they were when we first came to know them.
For me, I was at my peak fascination with Phish in probably 1991. If you take a look at those shows, they resemble today’s shows in many ways.
I gather bigb’s fond of the '99, and I was kind of … well I only caught one '99 show & it wasn’t a good time. So I think different fans expect different things, or hope for different things. I can totally respect that.
