Type Your Phish Thoughts

hell I’ve only been seeing shows since fall 09 and I can’t remember what I’d like to about the shows, I remember the big things, like the random covers at Blossom '10 (Look Out Cleveland, Curtis Loew, Instant Karma), and mainly what I remember from Hershey was my first Funky Bitch, Twist, and not getting a Tweeprise…then there was Portsmouth and the biggest thing I remember about that was randomly running into Hank and Jae and they ended up chilling by my car and then Yoni joined the crew with his buddy, I remember Trey saying something about Tube and then playing it, also a pretty good Gin and Simple…other than that that’s the extent of my memory from that run, especially music-wise…then there was the southern run where I mostly just remember the bustouts, it’s just a lot of music to absorb in a short period of time…but mostly I know I had a blast and will remember summer 2010 as one of the best of my life

oh also agree with the sentiment about Trey’s treble

Is that why his tone sounds a little more thin lately?

I’m listening to the Weekapaug from Pine Knob, at 6 minutes precisely Trey brings in this screaming line. I like it, and I want to see some live Phish.

Trey needs to switch back to his Deluxe '65 Reverb. He had a much better tone overall when he used that.

His sound used to so fat & dirty, and so simple. Now it sounds too fancy to me. And yeah, definitely treble-y. Maybe he’s losing high-end in his hearing?

I’ll take a less than perfect Trey over about 97% of all other guitarists touring now anyhow. All of you guys have summer tour tickets right?

Trey sounds fucking boss right now and I can’t wait to see him.

I got me a ticket. I’m not meaning to knock him, he’s still probably my very favorite guitarist, ever. Except there’s that Steve Howe guy too. Nah, it’s Trey.

You hittin up Worcester?

I personally remember pretty much everything from every show I’ve been to, paritularly musical things. :eh:

It has nothing to do with his talent or the way he’s playing…it’s just that his guitar TONE used to have balls. It would cut through an entire giant stadium right down to your bone. Now, it just kind of whimpers. Even when he’s shredding it.

^agreed 100%, I honestly don’t know if I’ve experienced Trey making a sound that wasn’t composed, or a set tone, that cut through down to my bones live…but I have heard it on tape, and I would seriously love to feel/hear that one day…ya know we can all separate different eras of Phish almost based solely on Trey’s tone changes over the years in the 90s, but I haven’t still haven’t heard much change in 3.0…obviously he’s not gonna wanna revert back to some tone he’s already put out there but hopefully he can develop something new and exciting soon, though I don’t know if they’re touring enough for that to happen

The first show, yah … maybe meet for a brew? Worcester meetup?

I can only go to Friday’s show…figures

On a side note kinda phish related thoughts, 'cus that’s all I’ve been playing lately…

I had my 2 year-old son on the swingset tonight and he kept saying faster, faster, faster…I was like “Wow, you’re going fast!!” And he screams “ROCK AND ROLL DADDY, ROCK AND ROLL!!!”

lol~!

… It is true though, man. Rock and roll indeed. MIRITE

I agree with both posts above, but… I think it is coming back now! Just listen to the summer shows, cutting time is near!

So I went to orientation today for my new job at steak n shake, and I am really wondering how much time off I’m gonna be able to get for seeing Phish this summer…I’m guessing it has a lot to do with the manager and stuff, but this will be the first Phish summer for me with a boss I guess…before this I did yard work a couple summers and worked for my dad at his work (which was actually prior to me really getting into Phish)

I have tix to Portsmouth and was planning to do the Portsmouth->Blossom run, which is like a week off right there, and I haven’t even started working yet so it’s not like I’ve developed any kind of relationship with my boss…and money allowing I would love to do at least DC, probably not Alpine…then there’s the Southern Run like a month later which would only be like four days, but I’d rather save my money and fly out to Denver for that thing instead if I can pull that off, and just do the ATL probably

Anyways I come to you for advice on how to getting off work for shit like this? Obviously it’s just a part time job, and my buddy told me basically as long as I can get someone to cover for me I can probably do whatever I want and keep the job, which makes sense…it just seems like a lot of time to be gone and hold on to it, plus one of my two best friends (maybe both) just landed a job there today as well, and I was hoping I’d be able to convince them to some shows with me this summer but I almost feel like if they’re working at the same place, all of us asking for time off at the same time would jeopardize my chances

I’m probably over-thinking, it’s what I do

Nothin wrong with thinkin.

I advise you not to mention anything about a concert, or about Phish, or about eating a ten strip, or running naked and wild in the delicious moonlight.

You just say you have a vacation that’s already been planned, if it’s possible at all you’d like to keep that in place pretty please. Be vague about where you’re going, like, just say the town you’re going to.

And, definitely get on that sh1t right away, don’t wait til later. The sooner the better with time off & bosses.

^^Levi, when I was in your situation(pretty much my whole 1.0 Phish seeing days were like this) I would use weddings, birthdays “family” stuff to try and keep the job. I will be honest, I lost a lot of jobs due to traveling to see Phish. But they were shitty jobs. Dime a dozen. Unless this Steak and Shake is different from the ones I am thinking about, and don’t get me wrong, I FUCKING LOVE Steak and Shake, there are many jobs out there that are equal to this that you can get a hold of.

Never put off something you LOVE unless you know you are in a unique working situation (like a career) that is detrimental to your well being for a long period of time.

On that note my friend, go see a lot of Phish if that is what you want to do.

Am in the Phish doldrums at the moment. Not that I’ve even come close to giving up on them, don’t get me wrong. I just haven’t had any pressing desire to consider them in any way, except maybe when I grab my Phillies cap as I’m running out the door. I tend to choose that hat as opposed to several Yankee caps that I have in the closet, because the stylized white “P” on the red background of the hat stands for “Phish” in my head, more than it ever might the “Phillies”.

With the three AC shows coming up next month, you’d think I would be more involved. I don’t even care to download any of the shows I’ve never heard, which is also surprisingly quite a bit. Feel totally undertuned as a Phish fan, but am not at all concerned about it. These are just observations about how I’m reacting to Phish at the moment.

I have no doubt, that after Bader, the story will change with appreciable measure.

Thanks for the words of wisdom Kevin and Matty…I’ve got a pretty good plan I think, one of my buddies 21st bday is actually the weekend of the Cincy show and I have had that trip planned since tour was announced (cause he lives a few miles away from Cincy, he went to my first Phish shows in Cincy in 09 with me) and I’m just gonna tell em I was planning to visit “family” in Portsmouth, for the Oak Mtn>Lakewood shows that’s the weekend after my bday so I’ll just telling I’m going home to see family for my bday (also just realized that sunday is my mom’s bday, so I’ll just skip CLT like I planned), don’t know if I’ll be able to pull off back to back weekends and tell em I’m going to Denver to visit a high school friend but if I have to pick and choose I’ll take Denver, in fact I’ll probably buy a plane ticket with the help of my first few paychecks and just sneak up to ATL for the Lakewood show somehow, when you lay it out like that it’s really not that bad, there are like 150 people working there so I’m gonna try to be nice to everyone and hope it comes back around when I need em to pick up a shift or four

I really do want my other buddy to be able to tag along for the Pmouth->Blossom run cause I know he will be making as much money, maybe more than me, and I hope us working at the same place won’t make it hard for the both of us to get off…This is the only place I have applied for this summer, but I don’t think jobs are very easy to come by around here being that everyone that lives here are all looking for the same type of entry level gig, but I think I could find another one if I lose this one somehow…way I see it, I’m smarter than most of the folks that are gonna be working there and have better people skills than half of em, so as long as I whip ass at making milking shakes they’re just not gonna wanna fire me I hope

Bill, I haven’t been listening to much Phish in general lately either…mainly because I’ve been playing a lot of guitar and I simply can’t keep up with Trey and also don’t have the effects make me sound comparable to him, been listening to a lot of Dead cause at least a slower compliment to Jerry’s playing doesn’t sound as bad as someone trying to keep up with Trey  …I did however just d/l like 3 or 4 shows from this PT thread I Stumbled Upon, the mediafire links are the only ones that work on that first page, but I haven’t dug into the thread yet…don’t know what’s towards the back, hopefully this will give you inspiration to check out some SBDs if you’re up to it and don’t already know about this thing-
