Type Your Phish Thoughts

Brought this up to Dan last week in a brief discussion we had on fb, but figured I pose the question here as well.

Thought that Dinah-Moe Humm by Zappa was a big infuence on Trey, and either consciously or subconsciously it impacted the music in the opening section of Reba. See if you hear the similarities:

Phish released Rift twenty years ago today.

Gimme a FEFY, anytime!

I woke up today thinking that I would really like to take my mom to a Phish show. I think that would be interesting. She likes Mike. He was on a Gov’t Mule DVD (The Deepest End) that she owned. It would have to be a Knoxville show. I would have loved to take my pop (he would definitely dig it), but he unfortunately died a couple months before the reunion announcement. He’s with me at every show though.

Anyone ever taken their parents to see Phish?

^ Sorry bout your pops man.

My mom would probably flat out refuse to go unless I guaranteed her that either Neil Diamond or John Travolta was going to make an appearance.

My dad would probably go but then leave halfway through the first song

My Dad took me to see about 50 shows in the 90’s. My Mom turned 50 last August and said as part of her ‘bucket list’ she wants to go to a show with me. I thought she was only half-serious, but she asks me every couple weeks when Phish is going to announce their summer tour.

My mom was/is in love with Neil Diamond. I remember back before I moved out of the house my Dad was able to score front row tix for them to see Neil at SPAC; she insisted on bringing a dozen roses which she was going to give to him at the show. My Dad was rolling his eyes saying “ok dear”. The next morning my Dad was telling me how crazy my mom was at the show, screaming and yelling at Neil after every song until finally he approached my mother and graciously took the roses from her and says over the mic “This woman just won’t quit!!”

Rod Stewart was her second love - she dragged me to a Rod Stewart/Santana double bill at the Carrier Dome in September '91. It was actually an excellent show. That guy can sure kick a soccer ball.

So I guess there are several “1st shows” by Phish if you think about it…

The actual 1st show everyone knows (12-02-83)

Then Page’s 1st show while Jeff was still in the band (09-26-85)

Then the 1st show with the lineup as we know it (05-24-86)

Several of Page’s 1st shows with the band as a 4 piece have no known setlist…

5/3/85, no?

phish.net/setlists/?d=1985-05-03

^I always thought that 05-03 was Page “joining” them on stage as a guest for the first time and 09-26 was his first show as a “member” of Phish…Almost all known setlists in Late 85’ with Page and Jeff are only one Set…

Absolutely love the fact that Page has actually got Phish shows under his belt as a fan in attendance, that’s pretty cool…

Came across some easter egg videos on youtube from the Clifford Ball DVD’s. I remember seeing these when it was all discovered. Fun stuff.

I never purchased the Clifford Ball DVD set. Maybe I didn’t have the money? Fixing that problem ASAP.

Is Page really drunk or high? I don’t think he says a single word that entire video.
Then again, Trey never shuts up.

That video has made me think more about BIg Cypress and the wait for a release.
They have to have so much footage from that weekend. I know they had roaming cameras during all the sets and throughout the grounds from start to finish that whole fest.
It would be pretty cool if they do with it, what Trey and Fishman are talking about in that video above.
Lots of video from the crowd during that night. It would really be a different kind of concert film for sure.

Anyway,…they really need to release Big Cypress.
That’s my thought.

I hear ya on Big Cypress. I think they hold that one pretty near and dear to their hearts. I’m sure we’ll get it in time.

The guy that posted that video has several others that are a bit more comical. 17 videos in all.

I love the ones about the dude with the laser.

Trey and Tom 1985

bunch of fuckin goof balls

^LOL. Saw Tom posted that this morning. We want more old school pics!

man that pic is super creep

^Yeah. It freaks me out.

So yesterday I was driving to meet my mom and sister out for lunch. I was running late as usual and last in a line of slow moving cars. When we got to the intersection, I could have went straight or right. Since most of the cars were turning right, I chose to go straight and commented to myself about “surrendering to the flow.” Subsequently, I began singing Lizards and have it running through my head when I turn on Pandora (on my phone, which plays through the car), which is set on the Phish station. Just as I tapped on Pandora, I thought to myself “I should find Lizards on youtube so I can hear it right now.” WELL, don’t you know that that very second Lizards starts playing on Pandora?!! I had a little reactionary scene over it in the car. Pandora read my fucking mind!

Every day for the month of February, the first thing I see upon waking up is Jon Fishman. The 2013 Phish calender is on the wall next to our bed. Talk about a freak out

I’m listening to Phish for today for the first time in I don’t know how long. I haven’t really been listening to any music for the past few months. I grabbed Raleigh 2010 this morning and I’ve listened to “Light up or leave me alone” like 10 times. God, I love Page! It’s made me all pumped to see them this summer. I think that was the show I got all sauced and told Justin that Brett’s girlfriend had a beard. I’m an even bigger asshole when I’m drunk, if you can imagine

I’m hoping to take Piper to her first show this summer, but of course the rumors say sparse tour. She told me she’s ready to go:

I’d really like to take her to Charlotte or Raleigh. Especially after listening to this show all day. I had such a good time that weekend and would love to return to either venue.
