Type Your Phish Thoughts

First show in 92 and I’m loving 3.0.

…and yes, that was THE shit of the MSG run.

^ Agreed. Unreal.

And Levi, I could see how you would say that. I mean, driving to and from shows like MSG, Chicago, and even Deer Creek is a lot of driving, and I definitely know the feeling of being on the road. I dunno, I guess it really doesn’t matter how anyone else defines it, as long as you’re out there having fun on the road, seeing shows, that’s what matters. Hopefully these guys will be around for a long time, and I can hit up a LONG consecutive run of shows after I get totally done with college in a couple years. I’ve always kinda wanted to see how long I could go without missing a show…

If you didn’t hit up all 146 Grateful Dead shows in 1969, you ain’t nothin’ but a poser. :stuck_out_tongue:

Levi, honey, I don’t know why you (or the rest of you) got’em in such a wad over my stupid post. I already explained it in my last post. I’m sorry you’ve chosen to be so offended by what I thought was obviously a silly overstatement. I friggin LOL’ed. Is that not a giant clue that perhaps I might not have been truly, purposely trying to insult anybody?? No need to “backpedal” that statement. I thought it was pretty fucking obvious I was fucking around. Perhaps a whole gang of smileys would have helped?       :stuck_out_tongue:

AGAIN, my SOLE point was that people might get tired of the setlists if they went to every show for 2 years now…but in truth, they didn’t change up the setlists that much in the 90’s either. I didn’t say anything about the superiority of Phish in the 90’s vs now or that you shouldn’t see Phish now. Wtf?!

I never even implied joking or otherwise that Phish isn’t fucking ON FIRE right now or that you shouldn’t see Phish right now because they aren’t as good as they were in the 90’s. Never, ever, ever said that! I dunno where the hell all that came from. I think their playing is top notch, I’m glad to be a Phish fan right now, and I’m glad other people are too.

Go see the shit outta them (I never said otherwise) and if you wanna see every show for 2 years, rock on, but my suspicion is that you’ll need a break before then. That was all I meant by my apparentlty inflammatory post and no more.

Outgrown the band? NEVER! Outgrown the “scene”? Definitely…but then again, so has the band

   :lolno:        :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember someone on the Pa mentioning this. Anyone remember who?

Also, I don’t know where the term “glory days” came from but it wasn’t from me! Glory days implies that there will never be a better time. I used the term “hey day” which, I thought meant at it’s most popular.

And furthermore, I wasn’t speaking of Phish’s music, but of touring itself…and not just Phish tour but the hey day for touring in general including bands like GD, wsp, SCI, moe., etc. It seems to me (and I could be way off base) that more people toured back then (WHOLE tours, not mini tours like a few-show run) and that’s the hey day I was referring to.

So yeah, take offense if you will, but it certainly wasn’t intended as such.
::hugs::

Pigtail and Halfway to the Moon are two really nice new songs by this band called Phish.

You may have heard of them.

Always remember, Divided Sky is a real Phish song… and Bathtub Gin is crap.

Can’t argue with the Lady on this one, folks. She makes a damn good point there.

But, personally, I feel like if going to several shows (or every show) in a tour makes someone happy, they should go ahead and knock their socks off and not worry about whether or not it’s still the same as it was in the 90’s. Fun is fun. If you’re having it, that’s better than a lot of people are doing. Part of the reason why I worked so hard to get MSG tix for Edward is because it’s exciting for me to see someone that is truly pumped on what is going on right now.

The fact that I don’t have as much fun at shows nowadays has to do with my own experience. For someone else, 3.0 may very well be THE time of their life… and what an amazing ride that must be! I wish I still felt that way and I’m happy for anyone that does.

Has the band changed? Sure. There’s no doubt about that. They are playing great, but the vibe is very different. They are shredding more and exploring less and the makeup of their tours are far less “tour” friendly than the tours of old. But, in the end, I think it comes down to the individual. What’s fun for me may not be fun for you, and vice-versa.

And, really… if you never hit up Grateful Dead tour, you pretty much have no idea what touring really is. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s whatever, serious or not, it wouldn’t have had any effect on the number shows I see in the future…but you’ve been saying this stuff about the scene for a while, and I don’t get it…I’m guessing you just mean you’ve outgrown partying, but the way you say it its almost like the scene has gone to shits or something, maybe that is what you mean…but I still love the scene and vibe at a Phish show, I’ve met so many random cool people, and gotten to talk to random vets, people like you, about what it was like seeing Phish in 90’s and even more talking to old heads about what it was like to see the Dead…its like I told Cari the other day, I’ve seen Phish 11 times in the past two years and I’ve only met one douche bag (maybe Little will remember him from Charlotte), as opposed to having seen Panic 6 times last year and really only meeting one person who had the same spirit as everyone you meet at a Phish show…either way, I think I understand outgrowing anything so its not a big deal to me

That’s a pretty amazing feat, my friend. I am surrounded by them at every show I go to.

Aug '93 called. She wants her “special and epic” label back.

As long as nobody eats too many little boxes of donuts…There should be enough room for everyone with Phish.
That being said. Fishman stage diving into the moshpit and crowd surfing naked in 1992 ftw  stokes fire
I raged like a teeny-bopper in NYC 2010-11 this run. Aftershows, raves, cb on rye, the whole she-bang. As a jedi I have special reserves of energy that my training has conditioned myself to call upon in times of great need. (Maybe it was just Adderall)

^^well I take that back, I was surrounded by some douchey guys at the second night of Charleston last fall, but the cool people I met at that run outweighed the obnoxious, plus sometimes you gotta expect it going into an absurdly preppy college town…

For the record, I consider a douchebag someone who does any of the following:

-talks during the show
-invades everyone’s space
-is way too spun out
-wears sunglasses at night
-goes off about how “tight” every single song was
-wears a visor or a baseball hat with the brim cocked to the side
-thinks being at the rail makes them a celebrity

Which is differentiated from “Ass-Hat” by what?

^You can probably use both interchangeably.

welcome to America

^

Can’t argue with that, my friend.
