::Prepares for NYE Hawaii run::
After deciding to never go to a phish show again… which any upstanding 39 year old ex-drug addict would do or not do (wot?) I took a hiatus from listening to zee feesh. course i’ve been taking a hiatus from most things in my life as the end of nursing school is looming and my two year torture session will be ending this May in a goddamned degree… it has taken more out of me than i’ve know… but… thats ok, they don’t just hand out nursing degrees on the street corner.
SO after hiatus… unconsciously my brother gave me alpine dvd for xmas. he’s not a phish fan but i did take him to a show back in the summer of 1864 (94’)… and he, well, he was being nice. i sorta reluctantly took it knowing what was inside might shock my brain… but i listened and watched… and the dwd->wtu is the real deal… tha magic, the wompa and then luke cuts off his arm and runs into the snow, dropping, delirious… seeing ghosts… obi wan… dagohba… yoda… Benn… BEN!!! ::tauntaun appears::
yeah so after which they start up mule. hmmmm mule. who doesn’t like the mule you should get punched in the eye… but when wherefor has mule gone? nevermind its a nice version but listen to me… the mule duel… the “russian dance” trey part that speeds up and up and the last phrase before he just starts wailing requires… some dexterous skill and he can’t quite seem to pull it together. its not bad, it is what it is… it got me thinking when he had kinda lost that little tid bit… or if he didn’t lose it but perhaps it went to the old folks home…
so i perused my meager phish catalog looking for other mules and picked up 8-11-04 set 1… fun mule but the duel is a mess as was much at that time… precision there were about not. then i pulled out 7-29-03 set 1… i forgot… no FORGOT how good this set is… this mule, in particular, scorches… it is played with gusto by all of them and the “russian dance” almost falls off during that critical moment… but he hangs on… barley… and listening i felt shivers shoot up my spine… thrilling as i drove down the road in my little world of a metal box on rubber wheels… and i skipped ahead to the timber… cause i was close to home… and the same thrill, trill… trillium… and i was belting out the last lines Timber HOOOOOO timber whoa this timbers gotta roll… and it was such that i felt the feeling i forgot, or did i… no. no. we don’t forget. but it takes a multiple of factors for that to happen and then its gone like the morning dew… but it sparkled when it was there… that and 12-16-95 mule… tight, precise, smelly mule.
I agree. I was pretty much straight across from the sbd, stage level, page side on halloween and think that area is the g-spot of shows.
This band has come soooooo far since Hamptron '09.
I cannot decide which I like more. Lizards or McGrupp?!?
AND it’s been just under 2 years!
Amen to that. This keeps up our faces are in a world of melt. A sh!tload of world of melt.
right now i’m gonna go with mcgrupp. the ending lizards jam is right up there on my list of favorites and i love love love the tropical feel of the lizards chorus. but mcgrupp is just a perfect song for me all around. very mellow intro, great early phishy lyrics, powerful composed section after that with some off beat rhythms, and a sweet piano with a repeating bass line till the epic ending ![]()
although if you asked me tomorrow i might like lizards better ![]()
Can’t it be both?
Spock’s Brain is under played. Bring it back out, boys!
listens to 6/20/95 again
ive had meatstick in my head for almost two weeks now… ![]()
sounds about right
Yup. It’s pretty much all meatstick all the time nowadays… ![]()
should be the title of a new thread…
I’ve had meatstick stuck in my freezer for two weeks now…
I’ve had meatstick stuck in my custard pie for two weeks now…
I’ve had meatstick stuck in my tailpipe for two weeks now…
I’ve had meatstick stuck in my food processor for two weeks now…
ok… maybe not.
What if I have things stuck in my meatstick
![]()

::thinks about phish::
I’m fairly certain that during the 3rd song of 2nd set…Your crew allowed me to jump to the floor from thar. (After I politely asked of course
) Thanks. I remember y’all were not allowing just anybody to to that.
P.S. I was on the rail next to Fishman for 35d night Hampton (next to Rich of 12/30/09 fame no less(He REALLY loves Fishman)). ![]()
Here are some choice Midwest strings of shows that exemplify what college kids with a $100 and a brain could have taken in following their favorite “bar band” around in '92 and '93! (slow day at work)
