Type Your Phish Thoughts

Not the first one.

I saw on FB today that Phish are re-releasing 10/26/10 and 10/30/10.

Those were pretty damn good shows. Cue the gnashing of teeth over not releasing Utica, though.

thoughts. commence typing thoughts.

ya know, giving up going to phish shows is one thing… but giving up listening to the music is another. where i’ve made the decision to forgo the former, forgoing the latter is presently unnecessary. further said musical listening is musically musical satisfying. and driving thru the hills of NH pounding phish music blasting from thumping speakers is a past tyme of such glorious fortitude… like pairs of chocolate covered nuts. (phish should cover synchronicity II). that being said I find myself in the same pattern that has been… enjoyingly scrutineer listening to each and every note of a jam, dissecting and searching for the sound (13:46min DWD 8-14-10) and simply not keeping up. the volume of shows these guys are put forth is too prodigious for my processes to keep up with. I can’t listen to show after show and garner appreciation for the music. it takes me time and multiple listens till i fully appreciate, savor and then finish with any particular jam. one or two listens just glosses, glistens but hardly bites. for me atleast. but, on the other hand, you know it when you hear it. sensory overload, sensory underload… sensory just right, loose associations, proceed. all dials tuned correctly, portractor protracted, full moon? check0. Take the sheets to the laundry, cover the oatmeal it’s about to boil over, every girl i go out with becomes my mother in the end ohhhhh, OHHHHHHH!

Like many of you, I like putting the windows down and blasting The Phish from Vermont. Sometimes I get a chill, and I don’t know if it’s from the wind blowing through my windows or if it’s the music doing it to me.

Like today, almost 40 degrees, perfect skies and sun, driving about 45. Not too fast, not too slow…the Hood jam quietly building up as I drive, and the entire moment comes together at once.

Just reflecting on my thoughts in August 2004 and now. At the god awful Coventry show, I thought, holy hell, this is shite, they’re just urinating in our ears. Could the music be any worse? Maybe it’s for the better they’re breaking up. I felt like I was betraying them for even thinking that.

Now, after being at the Berkeley shows and seeing the Cities and Simple jam, along with listening to the Ghost>YEM, I’m glad they’re back. The music still brings a smile to my face…

I wish they’d jam more though…

About the only time I feel peace and serenity in my life right now is when I’m listening to The Phish.

I think I’m gonna put some gas in the tank and do this today…one of my favorite things to do, and I need to find a good road for it here at school

I am going to the RV and Camping show today…is it wrong to take an ipod so I can listen to Phish the whole time…if it is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

It is never wrong to listen to Phish. Remember that.

In fact the last year or so I’ve been listening to Phish whilst grocery shopping. The only problem is I usually get lost in the music and it takes twice as long to shop because I’m wandering aimlessly

I bought the Phish Biography two days ago. I just finished the second chapter and it’s really good so far. In a strange, unexplainable way, reading a book about the band we’re obsessed can make listening to them even more refreshing. Also, they supposedly did away with the uber-queer book cover…

^ That is good news. In fact I may even buy another copy with the new cover so when guests take it off my book shelf I don’t get the “THIS is the band you’re so freaking obsessed with” question and/or look.

That new cover is SUPER fucking awesome. Whenever I think of Phish in their down time, I think of them chilling at some sweet house in Vermont with 2 feet of snow on the ground. I always think of that Bittersweet Motel scene where Trey goes out with his guitar and gets in the Isuzu with deep snow on the ground and he’s just driving in the woods on his property in his 4x4. That brings peace to my soul.

Also, I really like the song Gone. They played in on (I think) 12.31, and I really like the song. It has a nice little jam tacked onto the end, and I just really like the melody and all. Good stuff.

I like that song too. I’ve listened to it quite a few times over the last few weeks. I love the drum beat with the hi-hat and ride combo. Fishman rocks.

Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, act 2 - scene 3, line 54

“A mellifluous voice, as I am a true night.”

 I wouldn’t have know the word “mellifluous” if it wasn’t for Fluffhead.

I’ve got the original one…it goes perfectly with this hanging on my wall

My Fall tour '97
Cleveland>Detroit>Dayton

My summer Tour '11
Detroit>Cleveland>Cinci

Here’s hoping for another EPIC 3 night run

well, Cleveland '97 mighty not of been epic, but hey who cares

I was listening to 6-25-10 last nite on the way home from work and I could hear what life was left of the crowd being sucked out of it like some vacuum once the opening notes of TTE started up. The whole crowd just kinda does a collective Marge Simpson groan. Which sucks because that show started off so awesome with Alumni>JImmy Page>Alumni, BBFCM as well as containing an excellent 2nd set with one of my favorite jams of the year (2001 MJ jam).

^yeah I liked camden1 more, even though 6.25 def had some really cool moments.

camden1 was one of those bigtime heavy-hitter shows, and I had a great time

^yeah, me too, thanks Hank.

^^but the ending of that TTE sure as hell blew the life back into em.

4^ that rollingstone cover really confused the hell out of me when it came out. what was wrong with these guys to be prompted into sending out this message, just didn’t make any sense to me. but in some ways it does. musically, in the middle of their very best jams, they are all about touching one another mentally and emotionally with themselves, as much as any couple is during the act of making love. i don’t believe for a minute there’s anything physical about it, except in the touch to their instruments to make the sounds that dance with each other in their ears. Good jamming is an act of love with your bandmates. in that way, the cover kind of makes sense, disturbing as it always is to see.
