The Band used a guitar for this song alot of the time. (if not all the time?) I will say that if they play this tune Trey should use his older doc so his tone is not so bright and sharp. The new one would just be too much for the song IMO. I agree though. Band style “I Shall Be Released” by Phish would be great. Not sure why you chose Fish to sing though. Mike and Page would sound better on this song.
^ Well I don’t view it as a real rocking guitar song.
More piano on lead,…and the drums are very simple snare roll.

…And Fishman needs some new tunes to sing. I could see him sounding alright on this one.
The guys harmonizing w/ him.
Just a Phish thought I had.
^I agree with that thought. I could totally hear Phish doing that song. It’s definitely not a “rocking” guitar song, but it certainly allows for the guitar to make it’s mark:

Course… my other Phish thought is that Trey would need more than a different guitar to pull that off the way Jerry did.

Course, my Phish thought is that I would prefer that Phish doing it not sound anything like Jerry doing it, ya know what I mean? ![]()
^Agreed. Therefore, gamecat’s thought of a piano driven, fish sung version would be welcomed.
Excited for the next leg announcement…how the hell am I gonna pay for this?
yeah I’m about to drop $430 on a flight to see 3 first leg shows…bump that VISA bill back up to an uncomfortable level
but that’s a pretty ridiculously cheap flight from western MT to indianapolis…
but now that I talked to some people and know that I won’t be unemployed after the ski season ends, I feel like I can do it. I can have the flight paid off by may, and then i just gotta save a few hundo for tickets and gas/lodging money to throw at my buddy who’s driving.
phish really knows how to sell tickets to it’s fans though, those bastards…if they hadn’t hinted at no fall terr I probably wouldn’t be doing this at all.
^Cool Hank! We will have to throw down! ![]()
Yeah, I’m seeing more shows this Summer than I probably would normally due to them implying that there will be no Fall tour. Custie’d.
^Sucka!!!

i was listening to that 97 walnut creek show with the “thunderous” taste… wild phenomenon going on there with mother nature playing along… cool? way cool.
As soon as I get into VT tonight, I’m gonna roll down the windows and blast Hood and cry because I’m so happy
^ I haven’t cruised to a good Hood in a while…gonna have to do something bout that ![]()
Prolly not going to be seeing Phish at all this summer. And, suprisingly enough, I’m not all that upset about it. I guess I’ve been shifting away from Phish for the past couple of months, and maybe this is just the culumination of that shift.
Maybe this will change when they announce the 2nd leg, but I don’t think so. Who knows, maybe I’ll see if I can score a Toyota Park ticket, but I’m not going to knock myself out trying to get one.
^I will get you a Toyota Park ticket!
You gotta be there buddy!!!
Knock yourself out? Ha!
You don’t scare me with your threats! That’s not even a real gun.
You couldn’t even break the skin with that thing.
Who needs a gun!?

What is a Phish and what has it done with all our money?
So I had a really surreal kind of experience at the Mike Gordon show Sunday night. Not only was it a fantastic show, but since Mike always goes over to the merch stand after the show and talks to people and signs autographs, I got to meet him. A girl I was next to about three rows back from the rail told me about it, so I went over there before the encore, and sure enough, I had a front row spot because nobody was back there. Then it got really overwhelming (for me at least).
Folks were standing around the merch stand waiting for Mike, and for me this was such a tense moment. But then here he comes, and I could hardly believe it. I mean, you gotta understand, these people (the members of Phish, that is) have always been somewhat god-like to me in the amount of power they can have over your emotions. Also, I play bass, and Mike is my favorite member of the band. So Mike comes over, and I thought I would be nervous meeting him, but he’s so calm and strange that it was weirdly comfortable talking to him. The best part was that he gave me a tip for bass. When I asked him, he looked down and made a funny Mike face and then looked back up at me and just said, “Well, use chord formations with your left hand and alternate picking with your right hand.” And then he just nodded, and that was that. Oh, and he signed my ticket too. ![]()
I know a bunch of you guys have met some of the members (or all of them), but for me it was pretty unreal. I’ve never been anywhere near that close to any of them, and to actually just chat with Mike was seriously incredible. He’s a cool fucking guy, and in my opinion, he is definitely writing the best music out of all the members of Phish. Fuck yeah Mike.
