I’d put Over the Top under “O”, and The Karate Kid under “K, the”
Pfft, that sounds like something you would do, Will!
File them both under 80’s.
Seperate by decades, man!
hmm…Doug’s awesome category is starting to sound better and better
how bout drama, comedy, action, war, kids, horror, and misc. awesome!
That’s much better than Will’s “alphabetical” scheme. I mean this way when you think “I’d like to watch a funny movie” or “I’d like to watch an awesome movie” you’ll know where to look. Who thinks to themselves “I’d like to watch a movie that starts with the letter ‘F’”?
Well, how about we all jump to the 21st century where both of those movies are in Netflix Instant Queue, and you sell them for a buck a piece.
ALPHABETICAL!!!

I listened to this for the first time two days ago. I think I’m already somewhat addicted.
It looks like the guy in the middle is feeding an invisible goat. And, I’m pretty sure that’s Steve Martin on the left.
Great album by the way. It was the first tape I owned.
I came damn near to over-dosing yesterday.
On college football.
HAYO!!
I really hope you watched that MSU/ND game. Cause it was fucking sweet!
Pet Sounds does, in fact, rule.
so i just attended @ performed at Wormtown Festival in Greenfield MA, and got to stand up by the stage sound guy Saturday night & watch Max Creek play this great set. actually on Friday, we played our customary Out of the Blue art gallery gig in Cambridge, and at 1am we caravan’d to Greenfield to the festival & set up camp around 3am w/headlamps … we had the tents set up and were drinking beers and celebrating our gig and subsequent arrival right around 4.20 am
… we wanted to sleep there and be ready you know? our set was Sat. AM at 11.40.
i have so many thoughts about the weekend that i need to journal about it all somewhere or some shi!. but our set was cool, the rehearsals really paid off and we had a good show … all the camping and the company was a real great time … great weather, plenty of everything.
i got to know this group of people - we’re hanging with another band and some other friends that are somewhat new to me - all that much better too, which is kind of wild. i’ve kind of found myself a part of this whole community of people that i never knew before last year, who’ve become a bigger part of my life all the time lately. and we all kind of feel like good things are happening for us lately so that’s always good right? our gigs have been getting stronger and better and cooler and sweeter and more flavor and less filling and no hydrogenated oils or pseudo synthetic bullshit like that. no monsters, no tics, barnacles, bombstacles, pricklies, poison sumac, nothin.
if i’m not terribly mistaken the recordings i got all weekend are really good too. i’m currently editing them down and editing it all up.
those are my thoughts. awesome gallery gig > awesome festival.
Indeed. I have fond memories of my uncle playing this for me as a kid. The Beach Boys were the epitome of good pop music, and this is their most experimental album. God Only Knows might be one of the most brilliantly written songs ever.
Oh, and props to Dan for being a wicked cool teenager ![]()
reading that brought a smile to my face Kevin, that sounds great, congrats
Hank’s up Hank’s up Hank’s up Hank’s up
I hate the Beach Boys.
You are filled with hate.
Awesome, Kevin. I have a bunch of friends that LOVE this fest!! They were trying to get me to go, but I just started school so I couldn’t swing it. One of these days I really want to hit up one of the smaller low key north east fest like this one. I hear there is zero sketch factor, and thats what I loved about being over at High Sierra. Good times!
That’s debatable. Ever heard Smiley Smile or the sessions from what was originally just called Smile? That shit is crazy (recently released by Brian Wilson actually). In fact most of their late '60s/early '70’s output is very “out there”.
Pet Sounds is definitely one of my favorite albums ever though. Wilson said when he was recording it, one of the things he was really trying to do is remind people what it was like to be a child and that innocence that eventually leaves us all. Wilson almost got as close as anyone ever has with that album, but SMILE epitomized it and that’s the one that drove him mad.
Carl Wilson’s voice = Golden
Seriously,…I don’t know how you could hate on them.
Some of the best vocal harmonies by any band.
Their early stuff gets ragged on, but listen to a song like “In My Room” and tell me that that’s bad music.

And Pet Sounds is one of the best albums ever made.
