It has very little to do with the amount of talent and everything to do with the fact that I don’t like their songs. Don’t know why, just don’t like them. Every time I hear them they make me want to put myself in the dick.

That’s debatable. Ever heard Smiley Smile or the sessions from what was originally just called Smile? That shit is crazy (recently released by Brian Wilson actually). In fact most of their late '60s/early '70’s output is very “out there”.

Pet Sounds is definitely one of my favorite albums ever though. Wilson said when he was recording it, one of the things he was really trying to do is remind people what it was like to be a child and that innocence that eventually leaves us all. Wilson almost got as close as anyone ever has with that album, but SMILE epitomized it and that’s the one that drove him mad.

This is the truth. If you like Pet Sounds I would check out “SMiLE.” I can’t vouch for Brian Wilson’s release, however, just the one that exists on the Trader’s Den. It’s amazing.

Leonard Skinner, Namesake of Rock Band, Dies

Leonard Skinner, arguably the most influential high school gym teacher in American popular culture, whose enforcement of a draconian classroom policy against long hair inspired some of his students to name their Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died, The Florida Times-Union reported.

Mr. Skinner was 77 and living in a nursing home in Riverside, Fla. A cause of death was not immediately provided but his son, also named Leonard Skinner, told The Times-Union that his father had Alzheimer’s disease.

The elder Mr. Skinner, born Forby Leonard Skinner, was a gym teacher at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville in the 1960s. His students included Ronnie Van Zant, a founder and lead vocalist of a band known variously as the Noble Five and My Backyard. Seeking a new name the group recalled Mr. Skinner, who was said to have sent Mr. Van Zant and his band mates to the principal’s office for wearing their hair too long in his class. In a mocking tribute, the fledgling band changed its name to Leonard Skinnerd and then, more memorably, to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

In a previous interview with The Times-Union, Mr. Skinner seemed not to be bothered by his association with Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose hits include “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Gimme Three Steps” and, of course, “Free Bird.”

“They were good, talented, hard-working boys,” Mr. Skinner said. “They worked hard, lived hard and boozed hard.”

His son told The Times-Union: “I think he kind of ate it up. He didn’t like it at first, he had mixed emotions later, but I think he kind of liked it eventually.”

I fell asleep after dinner tonight, … put the kids to bed at like 9 and just went to sleep myself for like four hours. woke up in my clothes on my bed at 1:45, got up, put out the trash, downed a bowl, opened a beer and commenced editing this set of acoustic lesbian music that’s part of this festival i recorded. feels kinda good to be doing this right now … would have been cranky if i didn’t accomplish anything, you know? plus i think i got another four hours of sleep in me if i can wrap this up quick too.
