Type your thoughts (Part 1)

I’ve never had a teacher that wanted us to call them by their first name. Always, “Mr, Mrs so-and-so”. I think it’s cool how Frank Zappa’s kids knew him as Frank.

^ It might be a New England thing, I don’t know. There’s this whole different way of looking at things up there, and the first-name-basis thing fits right in with it.

Oh happy days people! Cool weather is here. It is 53 degrees on my porch, and it was hard to come inside just now. I love when the days are getting shorter, and the cold weather is rolling in. You can feel the wonderful, beautiful, perfect chaos of Winter setting in more and more by the day.

Last names are about respect you godless hippies.

I’ve always had trouble with that concept Zoot. I agree that’s what it’s supposed to be about, but should respect be assigned to a job or position in life even if it’s occupied by a baseless moron?

On the other side, there’s probably no one I respect more than Trey, yet if I saw him, it would be unbelievably hard to address him as Mr Anastasio. I guess it’s all about where you’re at and where the other person is at.

I used to think that calling my professors “Dr.” so and so was a bit much. Until I embarked on my own PhD program. Now I don’t see it as a thing of respect so much as a thing of honor. I understand how difficult it is to obtain it so I call professors or colleagues “Dr” for the most part. It all depends on the relationship though. I don’t call my boss “Dr. Miller” because that’s just weird. I refer to him as “Dr. Miller” when I’m speaking to others about him though. In general I refer to people as “Mr. or Mrs.” until instructed otherwise. But that’s how I was brought up. I don’t think less of anyone that doesn’t do this, but it does stand out when somebody calls me “Mr. Roossien”.

My apologies, Mr. Horn Rollo.

I like being Ms. Nonna, or just Nonna. Lots of people in college called me by my last name because during the first month of Freshman year I was on the crew team and the coaches called us by our last names so lots of people knew me as “Nonna”. Some started to even think it was my first name.
Its weird, now when I substitute teach its supposedly a sign of respect for them just to call you “Miss” but I really can’t stand it. I’m Ms. Nonna!

I actually felt like I had more respect for a teacher who let us call them by their first name…because it felt like they were respecting us in that we were on their level so to speak and that translated to feeling like our ideas and contributions were just as important as theirs, I guess its kinda hard to explain…

My TA’s give me their first names. I always address professors as Doctor unless told otherwise. Growing up it was always mister, coach, father or brother (catholic school), grandma, grandpa. I extend the list to doctor and it doesn’t feel that unnatural to me. It often depends on the person’s age. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the video, but this reminds me of SNL’s “Seven Timers Club” sketch. Tom Hanks calls Steve Martin Mr. Martin, who then instructs Hanks to calls him “Mr. STEVE Martin.”

Saw Emmitt Nershi Band on the riverfront in Peoria,IL last night. It was absolutely fantastic. I am getting really excited for the benefit on Saturday in Broomfield. For me, it’s the best of both worlds…Phish, Drew, SCI…man this is gonna be fun!

::sends massive ticket-getting vibes to Santa Monica, CA::

Sad day for me folks. My most recent musical endeavor is coming to an end. Because of scheduling and practice space issues we haven’t practiced since our last show, over 6 weeks ago. I’ve known it was going to happen, but now that it’s “official” I woke up this morning feeling a hole. I love playing the drums and it was great over the last year and a half to get back into it and relearn the joys of being involved in creating music. Now I feel how important it really was to me.

But, on the bright side, while the guys I was playing with are great friends of mine, musically there were some issues. Maybe as this door closes another for a more fruitful one will open in the near future.

^I feel your pain Doug, vibes to you. It’s really difficult to have musical collaboration to any degree! Personalities and artistic sensibilities always clash. I’ve had some struggles with that stuff lately too.

Well after two years, Amy is moving home.
my fault, told her i was going to the bar…went to the strip club.
that put her over the edge. and on top of that she has seen her family twice these two years. shes from md, im here in illinois. met over on inforoo.com. not sure when she is leaving, but she knows she is. probably at the end of the month.

I guess overall it is what will make her happy

but i will miss her with all my heart

Well that sucks.

On the plus side you can hang up your rock band posters now.

Sorry dude!

Sorry to hear that bro. Those strip clubs have been the downfall of many a meaningful relationship, but if it’s worth saving I’m sure you’ll do what’s needed. If you need an ear to bend, I’ll be around here, or more likely on XBL or PSN…hit me up, we’ll go let it all out on some aliens or terrorists or zombies or something.

Que sera sera.
