Which strategy is better? Keeping your windows open a bit and getting used to the cold or bundling up and turning up the heat in hopes to store up warmth for the moments you have to be outside in the cold?
^ I personally do the former, although either way is fine, depending on your interests. I actually like to sleep with my windows cracked when it’s cold out and get under a bunch of blankets, but it’s been making it hard to get out of bed in the morning because I’m so comfortable and my room is like 50 degrees. Honestly, the best strategy in the winter time in to keep your heat turned on to like 67 or 68, and just let it run like that. If you have a particular room that you want to keep cooler, crack the windows. The more hardened you are to the cold starting now, though, the easier it will be for you to enjoy the great outdoors in the winter time. I always forget where you’re located though. Is it Iowa or am I crazy?
Chance of SNOW in Asheville on Friday!!!
Feck yeah!!! I’m probably getting excited over nothing, but I love when winter comes a bit earlier than usual. Normally snow forecasts aren’t seen until December here.
Ask, and you shall receive. Thing is fucking disgusting, IMO.
Been a very dark cloud over my neighborhood for the last week.
This little girl that lives in our heighborhood, who is not even 2 yrs old, has been in the hospital for the last week, in a coma. Her mother’s boyfriend had beaten her nearly to death. I don’t want to go into the details about what he did to her, but it is awful. Just awful. Anyway, she was found unresponsive, and not breathing. The paramedics had gotten her pulse back, but nobody knows how long she was without oxygen. She was rushed to one hospital, only to be airlifted to another hospital. After a couple of days, she was airlifted to Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. For those who don’t know, CM is the best hospital in the country for pediatrics. So she’s in the best place she can be.
The problem is, there apparently has not been alot of brain activity, and she’s been in a coma this whole time. Although, my wife got word last night that she opened her eyes and apparently smiled at Gramma and Grandpa, who she lives with. But now, “they” (the doctors, I’m assuming) are claiming that it might have just been an involountary muscle reflex, and she didn’t really open her eyes and notice that Gramma and Grandpa were really there. They’ve had her hooked up to an EEG machine for a couple of days, looking for a change in brain activity. I guess there hasn’t been much change at all (which I guess is a bad sign.) But her brain has stopped swelling, and has gone down (which I guess is a good thing).
Either way, this has just been a terrible week, and it just leaves a HUGE sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach.
There is a facebook page called “Prayers for Molly” out there if you feel like stopping by (and I’m not advocating this at all, just saying) I can’t link 'cause I’m at work. But more importantly, if you guys wouldn’t mind, say a prayer for this little girl. I really hope the power of prayer can help her through this. She needs all the help she can get.
Sorry to be such a downer with this, but I have to tell someone about this.
Oh, and if anyone with medical knowledge is out there, please PM me with what some of this stuff means. I feel like I’m in the dark, and not really knowing what is going on. And it’s making this even worse.
wow that sucks man. i hope she pulls through.
and i hope the dude that did it gets what he deserves.
Best wishes are being sent her way.
Well…just awful…karma will run a tenfold on that sack of shit!
Yeah… that’s just plain old terrible.
So sorry to hear about that man. I hope that Molly will make a recovery, and I hope the universe puts this evil bastard exactly where he belongs. Sending my positive thoughts to Indiana.
On another note, I seem to have done the impossible: I drank so much coffee that it’s making it more difficult for me to work. I’m so jacked on caffeine that I can’t do much but sit here and bounce my leg up and down and read these notes over and over again without processing any of it.
Levon Helm is playing Pompano Amphitheater tonight- just 2-3 miles from my house. My brother scored the gig to review for a local paper but only got compt 1 ticket.
Luckily, there is an inviting park surrounding the place. Rain or shine, this is gonna be awesome.
wow, Clark (i was on another page in the thread). That is a chilling situation. Its hard to imagine the things people do to each other sometimes.
Damn Chris. This is terrible stuff, triumph of pure evil over an equally pure innocence.
Just listening to Neil Young’s “Helpless” at the moment and the music is amplyfing the emotion, and it’s intensely sad. True helplessness in being able to make this better for you, or your friends, or for Molly.
Very sad stuff indeed.
But I need to join with my friends of the OKP and let you know we’re here if you need any more reason to share your pain. PM any one of us, and we’ll listen and give you shreds of hope if we can. This love stuff is pretty thick in here lately, and it’s not a bad thing to hook into.
Anytime.
Got some windy, stormy, rainy type weather going on here. I am absolutely loving it! Sitting on my porch drinking hot tea and watching/listening to the rain is incredibly therapeutic. I recommend it. ![]()
They say snow accumulations of one inch are possible over the weekend. Around here, that could mean we get nothing, or that could mean we get a foot and a half. I don’t even know why they try to predict the weather here. It’s just an exercise in futility.
^I love your passion for nature. It’s something we both share.
i know the feeling. when i used to wire houses i bought an energy drink i had never tried one day. it was called “raw energy fuel cell” or something like that. i drank one for lunch and didn’t eat anything. i was pulling wire like a mad man and then i just had to stop. i couldn’t sit still and rest but i couldn’t do anything productive either. i just sat in the floor trying to eat some cheese on wheat crackers feeling dumb.
Red beans and rice at 4 am after a galactic show = win
so, bought a buddy some beer last night, he said i could keep the change. so i bought a $2 scratch off.
$100 winner.
Yes! Give your buddy a ten for his inadvertent and generous investment!
I think so far, today has yesterday beat. I’m still broke though.
I think I’m going to need a bonus cup of coffee this morning.
i bought him a $5 scratch off and a pack of smokes.
