Type your thoughts (Part 1)

I work in a lab as a graduate student and I have very minimal interactions with humans, and I like it. I can put my headphones on and listen to whatever I want almost all day if I wish. It’s rad. I’m just kind of in my own zone doing experiments and only talk with the other people in my lab when I feel like it for the most part.

That sounds seck.

^^ Some kind of night time Janitorial or Security gig could be right up your alley too, but really, do you want to spend 8 hours of your day…which adds up to almost a third of life, alone? Sometimes I think that if I could eliminate all the people around me, I could also eliminate all the stress in my job, but then I think that I would probably go completely nuts if I didn’t interact with people all day long.

It would just be you and me, OKP. ::flashes some manboob:: :shh:

I run a boarding kennel. Dogs, cats, occasionally birds and Guinea pigs as well. I try to keep the human interaction to a minimum, and I exude confidence to pet owners that says “even though I don’t know your name, I know your dog’s and all of her habits, quirks, and delights”. It’s a good gig. I guess.

I deliver sandwiches, so I drive around and listen to music for most of my shift. My human interaction is minimal, other than “thanks, have a good one/nice day/great day/go to hell and learn to tip.” Unless you count other drivers as humans, then I deal with people all day.

Great observation there, dooj. The hardest part of most jobs is dealing with people. Don’t understand why this should be this way, but it definitely is.

Best time I ever had in this career was when I was coding. I’d get a spec and a deadline, and then went off to my own space and worked it until I was done. Had very little interaction with people except to get coffee or go to the bathroom.

These days I’m either in meetings or on the phoney fone most of the day attempting to resolve issues that may take months to coordinate and work out, and I have dozens of these issues to status every day. Wanna code again.

Thanks guys-- excellent suggestions!

Unfortunately, I’m probably gonna have to stick with the gig I’ve got… for a little while, at least.

I just get tired of dealing with these fuckers sometimes.

Anyone Pandora here?

I’ve used it occasionally while working on my computer, but i don’t often sit at my system to listen to music because the speakers aren’t all that. But now that my bluray player reaches to the net, besides netflix and youtube, I can also stream Pandora to my 7.1 surround system, and it’s been pretty neat to be playing my “stations”.

Used to listen to it here at work, but for the last couple of months, whenever I would try to open it, it would tell me that they are experiencing technical difficulites and to check back later.
Bummin’ me out. Wonder if it’s something with my work and they are blocking it or something.

Pandora is one of my most used phone apps.

That, and Angry Birds.

Had very little interaction with people except to get coffee or go to the bathroom.
I usually don’t interact with peeps in the bathroom. (not since rehab that is).

that sounds awesome. my job is usually ok but today i had a customer who broke down and started crying when i was showing her how to use her remote (for her tv). she started going all into how her ex was an alcoholic and she was all alone and sad and trying so hard to make life work. the whole time her grandson was following me around saying “i’m gonna shoot you” and shooting me with foam darts. and there was a great dane that wanted to eat me on the other side of the fence from where i was working that would bark non stop while i was trying to remember what cables went where.

i like my job though. even though dealing with all different people from all walks of life can get on my nerves sometimes, in the end i’m glad that i get to experience it all. for me it beats sitting at a desk. i don’t think i could do that.

I know that I must be just continually pushing Madonna’s love over the borderline, cuz every time I go shopping she tells me so.

But isn’t that word “Borderline” really redundant?

It’s really that I just keep on pushing Madonna’s love over the border.

^Damn it Kevin, that song will be stuck in my had for hours

Sushi is SOOOOO freaking good. I had some for lunch and it made me very happy. It was so good that I wish I had more room in my belly for another whole meal.

Religion should have a friggin warning label on it

^The secret to cramming sushi is not to eat the rice! I used to do those all you can eat sushi joints where they charge by the leftover rice balls. Just put the rice in a napkin, and excuse yourself to the lavatory.

It was 35 years ago today that a powerful November storm walloped the Great Lakes, sinking the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald and all 29 crewmembers aboard. RIP.

Alpine to allow camping next year? :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

walworthcountytoday.com/news … t-overnig/

For 450 out of 40,000 people? Nope, still hate that place.

“Other qualms include the theater erecting permanent campground structures; loss of crops from concert goers using adjacent fields as sanitation stations, trampling crops and leaving behind toilet paper; and attendees tossing cigarettes out vehicle windows, possibly causing fires.”

This is pretty much the major arguement–hilarious. Is that all ya got locals? Come on…! We all know that fires would not be a problem. Since there would be camping, you could almost guarantee a rainstorm  !

I would be willing to bet also that there would be A LOT more than 450 people camping for a Phish show there. Security (and very identifiable undercover agents  ) would be very prevalent and dickish as usual at Alpine. Arrests would go through the roof, imho. This could be a move to bring more money into the area THROUGH arrests. Ticket prices would probably go up at this venue in particular, because less tickets would be sold–also don’t think this camping is gonna be free!

Positives-Less drunk driving and less drunk driving.

Yeah, it still seems like a joke. what with the 450 people. But did you see the size of each proposed campsite? 4096 sqare feet? I’m no math whiz, but doesn’t that come out to be somewhere around 64’ x 64’?
That seems HUGE! Personally, I don’t see this happening. Either way, it doesn’t really affect me. Always make the trek home after the show. Just thought I would post for discussion…
