Type your thoughts (Part 1)

It’s cool if you like a guitarist who doesn’t listen to the rest of the group.

:unamused:

Just made it through my first day of ‘cleansing’ myself.

Decided to take a week off, or more, from drinking and smoking. I’m bored as all hell, though.

Might take a few puffs to help me sleep…

Got tickets yesterday to see Zappa Plays Zappa at the Keswick Theatre, which is an awesome lil venue right outside Philly. I’ve been there before and it’s got great sound and looks great inside. I need to give a listen to Phish’s 11/25/92 Keswick show.

and for some balance

the trifecta:

Ughh. Haven’t had a cigarette since about 10 last night.
I wish I could just go in a coma for about a month till the cravings went away.

^If you figure out a way to make it easier let me know. I have tried to quit about a million times and failed miserably each time…

My buddy said he quit by buying a once of good weed and every time he wanted a cigarette he puffed instead. After two weeks of locking himself in his room and doing that he was far over the physical cravings and had a good time being lit up. But he did that in college, a lot easier when you don’t have a real job and shit.

i’ve quit twice before and didn’t smoke for years. both times i used original flavor nicotine gum. after you chew a piece it actually kinda feels like you smoked because the nicotine is all in your mouth and throat.

i tried the patch but it gave me very vivid, seriously intense disturbing dreams. like car crashes and shootings and stuff. even if i took it off before bed i still had nightmares.

this time i’m not using anything. i chewed a bunch of regular gum today and drank a ton of water. now i’m home and i really want one but i’m using my guitar to stay busy. i think i’ve got today beat

^Good to hear. See i mainly want to quit at this point in my life to save money. I think I gotta lil while before i need to be too worried about my health. And if i used patches or gum it would kinda defeat the purpose. I think I’m gonna buy a case of normal gum, and staying on my keyboard as much as possible. Good suggestions.

Eh, I dunno man. I think it’s never too early to be worried about the health effects of smoking. That’s actually the reason I want to quit, not money. The money is just a nice side effect for me. What worries me is things like shortness of breath when I go hiking, or when I’m standing on a high mountain at 6000 feet, and the air is thin, and I’m having a bit of trouble breathing right. It just worries me. I would like to be able to do all kinds of active things without having to stop for breath. That’s my main reason for quitting. I just FEEL unhealthy when I’m smoking a lot, and it’s an unpleasant feeling.

This place has been a ghost town since Fall Tour ended. Go post more shit, I need more Phish-related distractions!!!

^^ I was gonna post the same thing last night! Sooo quiet around here recently.

I hear what you guys are saying about feeling like absolute shit when you’re smoking cigarettes. After a night of drinking and you realize you’ve smoked a million cigarettes… so fucking tired and hurt. It sucks. And the price… oh my, the price!

How much are they where you live? Here in NY they’re $10 a pack…

^ Yeah, damn, I forgot about that part of living up north. I remember when I lived in central MA, they were like $8.50 and I couldn’t believe it. Here in western NC, they’re about $4.50 a pack, give or take a dollar depending on the brand and all. I feel pretty damn sure if I lived somewhere where it cost that much for cigarettes, I would just have to quit smoking them. I mean, that’s $50-70 a week. :open_mouth:

There are not a lot of people I want to strangle, but someone who comes up with the great advice of “leave your cell phone in your cars back seat so you don’t forget your baby”… they needs a stranglin’.

This kinda ties in with the price of smokes.

The older I get, the more it bothers me when people are on Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, etc yet the smoke like chimneys, drink like fish, get their hair/nails done, etc. I mean, if you can’t even afford to feed your family without my tax dollars helping you out, how dare you waste money on cigs or a set of acrylic nails? Is that just a completely asshole thing to say?

No.
