It sounds like you got lucky with your groups and I envy you for that experience because I was always into the collaborative thing. I agree that in theory group projects should be beneficial and worthwhile, but they never were to me. I never did one, in all my millennia of college schooling, that was truly collaborative and I felt was successful as a group effort. I think when you’re in the workplace and on a true team is when the magic happens, whether it be good or bad.
^I wasn’t lucky all the time! End up in some pretty weird group pairings but I learned how to work with those people even though they were a bit of a challenge. I just made sure to listen to them, then speak up about whats what when I it was necessary. Luckily everyone was pretty passionate about the projects though!
I’m not a fan of group projects (at least in the academic world) and have a 25 week long senior practicum group project required to graduate on the horizon. Hopefully I get a good group of kids to finish up the year. I’ve work with groups on various projects for work and that is has been a much better experience.
^Group projects sound nice on paper, but when you’ve got a slacker or two in the group it’s such a waste of time. I was only in one group project ever, that everything went smoothly and everyone was enthusiastic about it.
Just found out a kid I worked with murdered his girlfriend last night. It’s very tough to wrap my head around, so sad for both families involved.
You always hear about stories like this, but I’ve never had any connection/interaction with anyone like this. He was just a co-worker, but to think I talked to him on a semi-regular basis makes it strange. I wish he could have just walked away instead of choosing that path. Sad.
Was talking to a buddy today about it, whom I’d tell stories about him, having a few beers after work. He also felt he was somewhat connected, hearing these personal stories I’d tell from something we’d conversed with at work. I’ve been waving to him (Alleged murderer) as I see him around town since he’d gone back to school a few weeks ago. The poor girls family… It’s just sickening to think about the whole thing.
I used to go to shows/fests with a guy who’s s.laughtered his girlfriend’s roommate i an act ofschizophrenia. He used a shovel, a brick, and rope. It was terrible. He was incredibly smart and actually a very sweet person. That was years ago, and we’re all still in shock. I just had a couple of nights ago that a guy murdered his girlfriend in Knoxville last week too. What is wrong with people?
I hadn’t seen the news about it until this evening. My family was talking about the kid, knowing him from being into hockey and around at the rec center, and I said “what about him? something bad?” Then I remembered Dustin’s post and said “Did he kill his girlfriend?” It came on the news right after that and I haven’t been able to get it from gnawing at the back of my brain since. Even though I don’t know them any better than I would have if it happened in Kansas, being so close to home makes it hit closer to home somehow. Maybe sharing a community with the families and friends of these kids, like almost sensing the pain in the air. It’s just so sad.
Damn I really wish i would have thought of that. Even though i swore to myself I wouldn’t tell Lisa about it, the subject of poop came up and I turned bright red. She knew something was up so I had to tell her. She whole-heartedly agreed that I had no choice but to leave it there. In fact she said she was proud and we celebrated with high-fives. God I love that woman.

Strangely, I’d never heard the term of “butt-chugging” until today. I hear the police officer’s press conference on it and he sure seemed eager to push the term on everyone.
