Type your thoughts (Part 1)

Death blows. Reminds me of how Ryan lost a bunch of people recently, and I didn’t have much to say there either. I keep thinking about how to respond to ya Ollie … I bet I’m not the only one wondering what to say. I’ll say this though: Most people are dead. He’s in good company. Cherish your own fleeting life, and the ones you get to share, … and be patient with the sadness, it has to run its course.

Okay, whose got more ketchup stories?

Cover Songs Better Than the Original

Time to spice up the “type your thoughts” thread with my “Cover Songs Better Than the Original” ongoing series. It’s where I give you songs better than the original…as someone how detests 99% of all cover songs, this may seem like blasphemy but it’s worth honoring the 1% that does it right. I try to stick to studio version but if a live version is so different from the original that it’s unique, then it can be included. Feel free to add your own.

Yeah, I’m hitting Pinball Wizard. The original is sweet but a LIL half-assed (Pete himself admits he wrote it as a throw-in to have a “single” on Tommy) and a bit too short. Elton gives this song the love it deserves…plus you can’t get angry over the new lyrics since Pete wrote those too for the movie. A higher tempo, a bitchin’ piano solo, the “Can’t Explain” reprise and then that sweet outro when you think it’s over (songs need more outros)…song has it all. Plus I love how Elton sings the “Sure plays a mean pinball” line. Awesome!

All I want to do is read The Walking Dead thread, but I can’t because I have to watch it on Netflix in the fall, wahhhhhhhhh!!!

^The answer to your problem? STEAL from the internet!

I hate pastel colors. They’re just the worst.

Well, it’s Easter. Pastels go good with the Easter holiday.

Torrents are your friend…

Wow, never heard that version before. Really cool, especially the kinda ambient music to accompany it.

Guess I’ll contribute here…

Made famous by the “Jesus” scene intro scene from Big Lebowski, this song kicks the Eagles’ asses. Long intro, great guitar, high energy, nice jam at the end. Great stuff.

I think I understand, what it means to be a citizen of the Emerald City.
I pay lots of money to insure my health, and here’s what I get.
I show up at this guy’s ragtag office, me and a bunch of other old men.
Hang out with some clerks whose only job is to keep the cattle organized.
Go into an exam room where this guy comes in mumblin’, something about numbers.
He first fondals my nut sack, and then rams a greased finger up my ass.
And with just that, declares me in good health!
I pee in a cup, and feel grateful that I’m not dying of some vicious disease.

America.

Oh wait, did I mention 12/13/99 Sand? On the way back from the doctor’s office along roads not often traveled. And it ain’t no jive. Oh wait, again, yes it is.

Welcome to page 600.

Probably actually 800+.

That old board deleted a lot of stuff once threads were “full”.

Is that the Providence Sand?! Love that shit. I was so glad to hear such a great new song, I remember that. Not much else though.

or streaming websites, although I gave up on the Walking Dead long ago

Is that the Providence Sand?! Love that shit. I was so glad to hear such a great new song, I remember that.

Yeah, but Trey had been playing it all that year already. Not exactly new. New for Phish, of course. It was pleasing when awesome tunes like Sand and Jibboo started seeping into the Phish playlist.

Or torrents. Why watch on Netflix? No cable?

I heard a little clip of that Kevin Durant MVP acceptance speech on the radio yesterday and found it so moving, I looked up and watched the entire speech. I don’t watch basketball and I barely recognized his name and have no other ideas about his personality, but that was one of the most heartfelt, humble, and gracious speeches I have ever seen.

^Ya, he went through every one of his teammates and coaches…you can tell he REALLY wanted that reward and it finally came through. The part on his Mom was pretty cool.

Here’s to a good job all the way around.

To Marie and I doing our ‘homework’ and finding a reputable window contractor. A guy who is just a nice person and not out to rip you off. But also very into the work he’s doing, taking an real interest and having a genuine pride in his product.

Very cool day with “Al” and his son replacing our picture window. They just went right to work and knew very well what the job was. Well thought out and executed. Old window out in ten minutes, job completed in about three hours, including cleanup. Can you tell I’m pleased?

Window looks great, gives the house a fresher feel. It will also save on heat and cut down outside sound. Just a good deal, no matter what Jerry use to say about 'em.

:problem:

People still pay for cable? Lol. Televison is of such small importance to me that I wouldn’t waste my money on cable. We also don’t have a computer at home since ours bit the dust a couple years back. We can only stream Netflix via our blueray player and our Wii. Through Netflix, I have garnered interest in a very select few programs, but not enough to pay $100 a month to watch current episodes!

^ I’m getting very very close to drastically cutting my cable package, for I see all I really watch is HBO, and Netflix…

If I could just get ESPN, ESPN 2 and NBCSN I’d gladly give up everything else.
