Type your thoughts (Part 1)

People still pay for cable? Lol.

If I could just get ESPN, ESPN 2 and NBCSN I’d gladly give up everything else.

He said it right there.

There is one reason and one reason only to still have cable. Live sports. There’s just not a lot of great streaming options, most aren’t available online at all and it’s pointless to download a game after it’s already aired since you’d have to avoid the results and such and that’s often impossible. That’s the only reason I have cable since I really don’t watch anything but sports channels. The only regular TV show I watch is Game of Thrones and I don’t have HBO anyway and have to use a buddy’s HBOGo for that. Don’t need Netflix either as I can use a torrent for anything they offer. If I could get some special “sports only” package, I’d do it but they don’t exist.

How am I supposed to keep playing disc golf as much as possible, when I’m supposed to be raising a family and working two jobs, and my wife keeps giving me the stink eye about it? I swear I spend at least 5% of my day scheming for the next opportunity. I sometimes wonder if my musical ambitions have been supplanted.

How am I supposed to keep playing disc golf as much as possible, when I’m supposed to be raising a family and working two jobs, and my wife keeps giving me the stink eye about it?

Just join a “league” and then you’ll “have to” play on a regular basis since you can’t leave your team high and dry. “Sorry honey…the guys are depending on me. I have to go.”

Oooh is that what those are for??! Seriously I’ve always thought they take way more time, and it’d make her even more resentful. I’d rather slam out two quick rounds with a couple buddies and get home. But that approach hasn’t really served me so far … hmm… Actually already on the brink of joining a team, maybe this is the way to go. Tired of getting crap for playing disc golf, and having to get the permission and resentment combo pack.

^As long as you’re taking care of responsibilities on the home front, I don’t see why she would care. I LOVE when my husband goes hiking. In fact, when he is home I’m always asking him to go somewhere  Of course, if she views this as your focus in life is to throw discs instead of helping her at home, perhaps a more healthy balance should be attempted to keep the peace?

While Kevin’s melon is occupied by disc golf, mine has been taken over by DIY home redecorating. We moved in 5 years ago this June, and I didn’t do much of shit for the longest time. It was a brand new house, so I left it in tact until shit started to look like shit. In the past year or two I’ve redone the living room, dining room, downstairs hallway, half bath, Makenzie’s room, and the girls’ bathroom. Now I’m moving on to the kitchen. It’s definitely the room in the house I spend the majority of my time in, but it’s the room I keep putting off because a.) it is going to take FOREVER to tape it off and paint around the cabinets/countertops and b.) I haven’t been able to decide definitively on a color. This weekend I FINALLY settled on a great color with the help of my daughter and I also have a few special touches to execute. I’m really stoked for how it is going to look. I may try to start it during this week’s off time.

Also, at some point today, I started obsessing over redoing our stairs. I’ve been embarrassed about the condition of our carpeted stairs for quite some time, but knew we would never have the money to have it redone. So, I did a google search and found out DIY stair redo-ing is totally a thing! You rip up the carpet, pull all the staples and tacks, sand it, add caulk or molding to cover any gaps, then either prime/paint or stain. It’s time consuming and labor intensive, but it can be done for less than $100…CHA-CHING! The before and after shots for this type of redo are unbelievable and obviously all worth it in the end. I hope to do mine by the end of the summer.

It’s pretty stupid how excited I am about redecorating…I USED to be cool :sunglasses:

Kitchen renovations are a BITCH…next one on the list! Getting old is kinda fun.

I’ve been embarrassed about the condition of our carpeted stairs for quite some time,

You going to remove the carpet and have linoleum or hardwood something? Because I can say our biggest regret is removing the carpet on the stairs. It’s too easy to slip on and when you do you can scrape your feet on the corners of the steps or, worse, bash your ankle into them. I’ve had a number of annoying bruises or scrapes over the years. Ya, the problems are elevated by being careful on them but, maybe it’s me, but it’s not the best idea to make your stairs MORE slippery. I’ll always prefer stairs with carpet.

^^I HATE carpet and have always wanted 100% wood floors. Downstairs, it is all wood, but the stairs and the upstairs are carpeted. I called our builder yesterday and he told me the stairs are made of yellow pine, so while it won’t take stain too greatly, it should sand and look great with some poly. Maybe I will decide to paint them. I have seen some fabulous results from painting them with floor paint. Growing up, we had houses with both carpeted stairs and wooden stairs and in all honesty, I fell down the carpeted stairs FAR more often than the wooden ones. I think the carpet is actually much more slippery. I hate the feel of it, the look of it, everything about it. I guarantee I will not regret the change not one bit! There’s no way I would prefer this: (No, this is not my house although it would be awesome if it was! Its just for demonstration purposes)

Glenn, I don’t have the pretty, plush carpet you likely have. It’s Berber and it’s very tightly woven. I had it cleaned last summer and it was beautiful…for all of 2 months before all the old dirt and dog pee stains crept right back in. I can’t drop $200 every 2 months not to mention all the chemicals involved in cleaning carpet as well as the carpet itself. It’s filthy and doesn’t vacuum for shit. I just want it gone!

Strange. May be the type of carpet, I guess. The point is that if you DO slip on the carpeted stairs, the damage you take is much less.

Too much white! I’m blinded! I can’t see! (falls down stairs)

^^I like it Ollie. I’m not a big fan of installed carpeting on the stairs and in most areas of the house. Have this issue with my imagination and what’s really festering there beneath the pile. Skeeves me if I allow my thoughts to ruminate.

Besides, I think certain carpet textures and materials, combined with certain sock fibers can lead to very slippery conditions on stairs. Have seen quite a few accidents because of it.

I prefer area rugs in bedrooms because you can always lift those up and have them cleaned or beat the crap out of them on a line outside. The only place we have installed carpeting is in the family room which sits on a slab and gets pretty chilly in Winter. The padding and carpeting insulates the area nicely. Of course we’re ready to replace the stuff after ten years because of those skeevy thoughts we get about it.

Ours was linoleum which at least, to me, seems more slippery than hardwood or setup that Ollie’s speaking of. Plus it had this metal lip at the edge of each stair, obviously put there to keep you from slipping but if you did slip and hit that metal part, it hurt like crazy. Likely there’s some worse than others. I guess I just like carpet in general.

Not a bad idea except when the Nihilists visit.

if it’s gone be that kinda party i’ma stick my dick in the mashed potatahs

^Awww yeahhh!

Not trying to elicit sympathy with this post, but I went into anaphylaxis on Thursday (severe food allergies) and am still recovering. Each attack is worse than the prior and the recovery is longer too. Anyway, tonight I feel like I’m somewhere between the seaweed and the slime and all I want to do is split open and melt…

Whoa, Sean. Do you know which foods to stay away from? Shouldn’t mess with alergic reactions like that. Since I was 21 and I developed a reaction to shrimp, I haven’t had so much as a sniff of the little suckers, and I really love them, as far as I can remember. I guess it’s not so bad because I’m fine with the rest of the shell fish family. Don’t know what I’d do if I couldn’t eat crab.

Hope you feel better soon.

Dang! Sean! What happened? Glad you’re OK, despite the slime. What a scary situation.

Yikes, Sean…scary stuff, man. I’ve never had any real form of allergies so I just can’t relate to how those things just shut down your day. Hope you’re feeling better. They figure out what triggered it?

Thanks guys!!! I’m severely allergic to macadamia nuts and apparently someone slipped one into a shortbread cookie last Thursday. I always carry benedryl and took four right away (my Dr’s tell me not to use the epipen b/c it’s only adrenaline and that can trigger a heart attack). Anyway, went to the hospital and got more antihistimines and they give me steroids to help the recovery, but I don’t take them b/c I really hate the side effects, so it just takes a while for me to fully recover. Feels like my chest, back, lungs, and throat are bruised.
Anyway, feeling a little better every day… Thanks again for the thoughts!!!

Ha, I hope people get that reference.

^^thanks for not being terminally ill Sean!
