^ Haha. I answer the phones at a law firm and had a similar experience last week. A older woman called regarding her prescription (again, we are a law firm not a DOCTOR’s office). I asked her who had told her to call here, wondering if maybe it was a personal injury matter that we were handling, and she said “One of the secretaries there, I don’t know?!” This was still in the realm of possibility as we have 4 secretaries for the lawyers. I then ask her what number she was SUPPOSED to have dialed. She gave a number with the first 3 digits incorrect, and I noted back to her what our number start with (864 as oppposed to the 847 she was SUPPOSED to call). She again implied that I was the idiot and hung up.
Ring ring ring…same lady, calling the number I had told her about, which was our number. Now I can see with all these numbers flying about some confusion, but then she tells me that I told her to call OUR number. I politely inform her of our misunderstanding, again telling her that this was all started when she misdialed initially. I tell her that there is nothing further I can do except to ask her to please dial the correct number. Again she hangs up on me, which is just fine with me.
Summary: Wrong number dialed>confused on my part>realization of what happened>inform caller as such>I’m the idiot>2nd call>reiterate miscommunication>I’m the idiot again>WTF?!
